The first 50 be a good tune you should try
Hello Brother, well done. Not an easy tune you have picked. 1 st Part: The note on F before the Slur is played short not pointed, and the same with the C before the Tarluath, this would help the tune to flow along. same in the 3rd Part, do not play this pointed notes, they are short. Keep up the good work, cheers mate.
Hi, thanks a lot for your comment and advice. I’ve indeed heard these notes played unpointed in most recordings. In the Scots Guards Standard Settings of Pipe Music Volume II 4th (Revised) 1992, they are written as pointed, and I’ve often wondered which version is correct. It’s true that this rhythmic detail completely changes the melody, creating a kind of "break" which makes it quite difficult to play. I’ve just tried playing them unpointed on the practice chanter, and I’ve managed to change the way I play it relatively easily. I sometimes question these reference books. I’ve also encountered the case of three quavers written unpointed on the second beat of the first bar in the third part of the tune Cock of the North in the Scots Guards, whereas in the rest of the tune, these three notes are always pointed. In the end, I decided to play them as most people do, which is pointed. Thanks again for your feedback, it’s greatly appreciated !
You need to get lessons from a good piper good effort.
Thanks for the advice ! I take lessons whenever I can, but it's true that good pipers are hard to find in my area. One of the goals of this channel is to document and show my progress over time. I'm still motivated to keep improving !
I was impressed with your playing. I’m in a similar situation. There are very few pipers in Dorset (I have some support from the Ringwood piping band), but mostly I am self taught. I have been practicing on the beaches and people like it, want to talk; also I have been asked to play for the Waverley when it comes. Even the Scottish crew like the playing; but I have a lot of work to do. Well done with the video Peter
