Saw Sunday Valley in The Thirsty Beaver saloon, had no idea who they were. They blew away a small room of about 40 people and I've been a fan ever since.
Is it just me or is his voice like a country god calling down from heaven? It feels like it just pierces my soul, it's so...full spectrum dominance. It nearly eclipses his playing which, even for bluegrass circles is outta sight. And Bluegrass is one of the pinnacles of musical difficulty. In my mind, it is THE pinnical and I am a metal guitarist. It's like Earl Scruggs or Jim or Jessie died and their soul went straight into Sturgill and they didn't miss a beat. He is YOUNG in this video and he's already at essentially full power. It is not just practice and aptitude. Seems like he started life on 3rd base, musically. All respect and admiration for an absolutely towering talent. All god's blessings.
Nipples hard
Just wanted to thank you for posting this, this is awesome!

He needs to beg Lil Joe back!
He's really good!!!!
I’ve never heard anyone do anything as good as Ralph Stanley ,but damn Sturgill absolutely does his songs justice!
Crazy good but the bass player is just not that guy…
I may be mistaken, but I think one of the bartenders was playing bass. This was likely a night when Tyler would play after the “booked” band. He likely grabbed a couple of guys in the bar and played to whoever was still standing. Arthur Hancock IV (banjo) was one of the bar owners and an early member of Tyler’s band, The Highwall.
Shitfire, look at that youngster! Sturgill crushing as usual
My mothers boyfriend looks just like Charlie Daniels and his first wife died from cancer 5 years ago… her name was Trudy. He is coonass all the way and I want so bad to learn this song and play it for him.
Damn he's a beast wish I could see him live !!!
This is my favorite singer. He's in a class of his own. I wish I could have been there to see and listen to this incredibly talented man!!
Baby strugill
That high harmony
Love this tune,class
When he was with Sunday Valley harmony should be in the dictionary with their name after that word.
Sturgill is a god. That’s all there is to it
I only see 26 comments as of my time stamp... that can not be right!!... This is pretty stellar
This would have been fast as hell on Cutting Grass

Just pure rockabilly shit. God bless Sunday Valley
I come back just for that damn base line
Sounded like he was getting his work outta them fellers

He’s just a beast, period.......
Love Sturgill in all of his various iterations but I think that his Sunday Valley project is my favorite
Thanks
great stuff, that bassist is badd.. wonder why he didnt stay with sturgil..
He loved his day job, plus the record people had other ideas. They were all good though. I'd pay good money just to see him do a set with them again, but Sturgill said himself there would be no reunion.
Thank you Mr. Pickett. Really
Thank-You for support MOVEMBER - Great greasy stach !
I feel like the rhythm player is panned right, no? Watching the video though, he's on the left.
So cool watching these old videos of his. What a performer! He'll be recognized for what he is one of these days...
#eatinbigtime
I think that myself! He's got that kind of twang in his, and I just love it ❤️
One thumb down must have the other one up their a••
And the other one in their big goofy ear.
The only video on RUclips with 0 dislikes
Josh Whorley it has one now 😞
@@Louisiana666 smdh..... be freaking best!!
@@dirkdiggler7283 It wasn't me
Most of his videos have no likes. Thanks god for it because you’d have to be stupid to dislike something as good as this
old standard, given new life. much respect
Sick
I nominate Sturgill J. Simpson best player of electric guitar since Jimmy Page. I believe Simpson is better than Jimmy, by a mile.
That statement is completely out of bounds, but I'm glad you appreciate the video (and Sturgill).
unanimous300 that statement should be reported
Well put together clip mate. Got anymore of his early stuff from Sunday Valley. Cheers from Australia.
