The first of my Weekend Walkabout videos. Short videos published irregularly when I've got something to say. People who know me know I don't talk much, so they will be short, and if I haven't got anything worth saying, I won't waste your time with aimless waffle. Thanks again to Stuart, and here's a link to his channel. Well worth a look. www.youtube.com/@UCeDTa4B0V4vVyLGAQ4cQP5g Music with tha...

very cool! missing princess threadlock though :)
She will make another appearance soon!
yummy!!
Very nice work sir
Thanks!
Sweet Dog.
And......??
I haven't seen a Greyhound dog in a very long time.
Where else do you expect "royalty" to lay down at?? She is just beautiful!!
Damn why are her ribs showing..feed the poor dog
She’s a sight hound, built for speed. She is a healthy weight for her breed.
Dogs ribs are supposed to show. She is more than well taken care of!!!!😮😮
@petrafried196 never heard of a dogs ribs supposed to show..to me that means they're under feed but ok if you say so
Good to see 👀you back.
Thanks Steve. It’s good to be back 😎
👍😎
Mine's fast asleep on my lap. And she weighs 50 lbs. And it's 90° out. I don't need this today. Go away, sweetie.
❤
Miss Missy so much
I’m glad that micrometer went to someone that can get good use out of it. 👍
Hi Mark, good to see you back creating videos again. I enjoyed this one and I’m keen to see the tool tested - I need a knurling tool so may design one along these lines. Cheers!
Thanks Stuart. The next video is in the can, so to speak, awaiting editing. I need to get quicker at editing! It seems to take forever! The arms are a bit more involved, but getting there.
I wonder if i could focus a parabola disk on it, and make it run on solar..
I don’t see why that couldn’t work. Painting the cylinder cover black might help as well.
Just completed mine, Brother & sister in law bought it for me for Christmas............
Nice 👍
really cool, thanks
Excellent video 👏🏻
Thanks
Is it ok to transport this in airports?
I can’t see why there would be a problem
So long as it is not running 😀
SIMPLE BUT GENIUS _JOSHHARTNET
Where do you get the little glass replacement capsules that cover the piston? Mine looks smaller but still I need to find one. Can someone tell me where to find them? Thanks
It’s steel on this one, but I have hot air engines that use a standard glass test tube. They have to be cut to length, but this is quite easily done with a diamond cutting blade on a Dremel. Wear gloves and safety glasses of course as they can shatter.
@@modellingmark thank you!
Maximum time bunt of that fuel last?
Sorry, but I never checked it. I'd guess around 10 - 15 minutes?
Very nice model it makes a change to see an item from China that runs true with no wobble on the flywheel
Hi Mark - another very useful video for me. Still have my part built project on the go. I am starting on the valve chest, I have noticed that the cylinder is cast (not brass) but the material for the chest that has come with the bits I have bought are brass. Am I correct is understanding that if the cylinder is steel (cast) the valve chest and cover should be as-well? Many thanks Martin.
I’m no expert, but I don’t think it matters too much. There is a risk of electrolytic corrosion, but only If the parts are wet. Steam engines are well oiled (like the builders?) so it shouldn’t be a problem v
Kindly provide drawing
Hi Mark - great videos. Thx. - I have an beam engine the same as the one you are building in these videos. But I do not have all the parts. What materials would you use if you were manufacturing the eccentric sheave and the connecting rod? Stainless or just mild steel? Many thanks
Glad you liked the videos Martin. I’d use mild steel for those parts. Stainless is unnecessary.
I'm just wondering why, with a factory machined kit, you seem to have something well out of line, the cylinder should not be flexing back and forth while working.
I didn’t notice it when I tested it. Probably the cylinder wasn’t down quite tight. It’s fine now it’s properly assembled.

The piston does not appear to be seated correctly. There is movement where there should be no movement
That’s very observant! It was rocking a smidge. I’ve since stripped and painted the engine and it’s seated properly now. Thanks for the comment.
@@modellingmark brilliant! What Color did you go with?
Hi Mark Ive just started making this model and im so glad i found your videos which show perfectly how to assemble the engine. Is the series complete from start to finish? If so it will be a fantastic reference for anyone making this model. Thanks again.
Glad you found it useful. The series is complete apart from the governor.
how purchase strilling engine demonstrated in pakistan?
Here's a link to the kit I bought. Stirlingkit ship worldwide. www.stirlingkit.com/collections/diy-stirling-engine-model/products/custom-assembly-γ-type-diy-luminous-flywheel-stirling-engine-kit-experiment-toy

Very plesant to watch ! Thanks for sharing. I just wish that you show how you proceed for the timing of the sliding sleeve.
Thanks for your comment. You can find the details on how I set up the valve gear in Pt8. ruclips.net/video/y5ch8M8VB0Q/видео.html
@@modellingmark Excelent. Thanks.
Very good enjoyed this build.
love the bloopers lol
Spooky was thinking of this today .excellent work sir these are green with red piping.
Great looking Stuart Engine Mark, videos are very well presented and a joy to watch
Thanks Mark. Glad you enjoyed them!
Well done. 🙂 I am thinking of a black base with polished metal above. 🤔
Thanks Anthony. I am thinking of black for the base. Polished brass of the bearings, and perhaps brushed steel for the linkages.
Excellent work mark, sometimes wish I could click my fingers and get work done. Did you ever find out what the links were called LOL.
Yeah, they are called links ! I had a real brain fart then! I wish snapping my fingers worked in real life too!!
Looking very good now, loved the Batman crunch.
Thanks Steve. I didn’t have the heart to edit that out 😊
Mere ko chahiye price
Check the link in the description.
I've ordered one of these. What kind of lubricant would you recommend for moving parts? and would you avoid using any on the displacer piston?
Just graphite in the form of pencil lead for the power piston, don’t put any oil on this. I used a drop of light oil on the displacer rod. Nothing else needs lubricant. Enjoy the model!
@@mwakelin awesome thank you
Nice build of the engine. Very fast running engine once it gets going. :)
Thanks Anthony. It does go at a fair lick. It's amazing that air can expand and contract that quickly! You can adjust the speed a bit by adjusting the length of the wick, but it's not very precise.
Very Nice quality little model .
Thanks Steve, I am pleased with this one!
I'm curious, what kind of alcohol are you using, Cognac or Whisky? Very nice little machine.
Isopropyl alcohol. I couldn't bring myself to use a single malt!!
@@modellingmark Lol. Quite understandable, but had to ask!! Cheers, aka Haggis :-))
@@modellingmark Good for you, it would be such a waste
Nice one
Thanks Henrik
Nice
Your not worried about the bolts working loose later on, since you're not using locktite on the bolts and screws??
Great question Anthony. This is only a pre-assembly as it will all come apart again for painting and polishing, etc. The bolts that can be fully tightened don't need thread lock as steam engines don't vibrate much. I.e. Bolts holding the cylinder, valve chest, etc. The ones that can't be fully tightened will have Loctite applied. These are places like the lever forks where fully tightening them will close the forks and jam the levers.
Always good work Mark , looking nice definitely not a model for the beginner.
Thanks Steve. It’s certainly not a first steam engine kit! Experience is helpful! My first steam engine was a Stuart 10H machined kit, which was far easier! That was many moons ago.......
