Care Gaps and Recommendations in Vestibular Migraine
Просмотров 562 года назад
Vestibular migraine is an increasingly recognized pathology yet remains an underdiagnosed cause of vestibular disorders. In October 2020, the Association for Migraine Disorders hosted a multidisciplinary expert workshop to (1) identify care gaps that need resolving and (2) propose recommendations to address those care gaps. This information was published this year in Frontiers in Neurology: www...
Genetics in Migraine Trailer

Migraine is a heterogeneous set of disorders, with most cases representing the polygenic influences of multiple susceptibility genes. Advances in linking genes to biological outcomes are helping us to better understand what migraine is, as well as how we can diagnose it and offer precision or personalized treatment planning. But what are the limits of these methodologies and what can we expect ...

This is an excellent talk. There is a lack of knowledge, awareness and there are plenty of people in the medical profession who don't believe in Vestibular Migraine (!), which is terrible for the patient. More needs to be done to educate worldwide to ensure people with VM get the recognition and care that they need. Also - interested that Alice In Wonderland Syndrome is not discussed and isn't considered as part of the diagnostic criteria?

This was a very helpful and insightful talk with these two doctors. As a male (the minority of migraine sufferers) I want to state that men suffer tremendously, if not worse, as it is often much more difficult for us to even get a migraine diagnosis. I experience chronic vestibular migraine which presents as extremely debilitating 24-7 symptoms. As Dr. Rizk said, what seems to be the biggest gap is the disconnect for people suffering with vestibular migraine primary care > ENT > neurology. I know people where it has taken 10 years to get a proper diagnosis. There needs to be much more education within primary care, emergency departments, and ENTs.
