I think this may work if the road was wide enough to have a bike lane wide enough to make the parking maneuver from. Currently, as the vehicle backs into the angled parking slot, the front end of the vehicle enters the traffic lane. See seconds 5 and 6 of this video. To park, you are relying on a moving vehicle in the traffic lane stopping to give you room to back in. This is not conducive to good traffic flow. If the road was wider so the bike lanes could be wider, you could indicate a turn, pull into the bike lane, be completely out of the lanes of traffic and then back into the parking space without the front of the vehicle going into the traffic lane. Does there need to be a bike lane on both sides of the road? Having only one bike lane may give sufficient space to have a wider bike lane so there is space to reverse angle park without stopping traffic.

This is a good demonstration of how difficult it is to park this way. Pause the video when it shows the 4 parked cars. Not one of them has successfully parked neatly between the lines.

This is insane, if you have ever driven a car you know when you stop and put on your turn signal people expect you to be turning not backing up so they will pull close to you. Once they see that you need to back up, assuming they can back up you might be able to get to the space you intended. The city has destroyed the flow of traffic on Hollister and since this parking change they also changed the traffic signal timing which has caused significant delays when turning onto Hollister now from any of the side streets. I hope when the city figures out this was a mistake, they can refund all the money the taxpayers have spent creating this mistake. Having to create a video to "teach" someone how to park just goes to show you how bad of a decision this was.

I like the angled parking. Not sure why anyone thinks this is harder than parallel parking. People had to stop and back up anyway. What I find really rediculous is tha an official gov video contradicts what the DMV tells you to do and what you were supposed to have learned in high school. "When backing up your vehicle, turn around and look over your shoulder to see out the back and side windows. Do not rely on your side or rearview mirrors."

Would have preferred a normal 45 degree TOWARDS the sidewalk instead of backing in. Old Town is not the neighborhood for this, it will require the cooperation of those behind you and people will not let you reverse into a spot if they want it. They'll pull up and block you instead.

Goleta residents are in for traffic impacts, this is all about more tax money for the city. Freeway traffic funneled directly down town, two lanes eliminated. Careless and irresponsible planning, or lack of!

This is a lie. There will not be more business in old town. As a matter of fact, I predict businesses will lose money. None of these businesses can compete with Costco and Amazon.

Glad to see this event recorded for those of us unable to attend! Unfortunately the sound quality nixed the ability to absorb much of the data provided orally.

This event shattered our community. I know the children that grew up without their mother. Gun violence still plagues our country. If it can happen in Goleta it can happen anywhere. We need change.

Proud of our city and the thoughtful, dedicated Mayor, city council and staff that make the Goodland a great place to live.
