Work on the emulator has continued. From test 02 I have advanced through test 06, succeeding in the tests in-between. Test 02 - Boot ROM CRC Test 04 - Non-paged RAM Test Test 05 - CRTC interrupt and light pen test Test 06 - HSync, VSync and video data There is still a lot of work to do before the computer starts and the user gets into BASIC.

This homebrew add-on for the SEGA Master System adds four 76489 PSG replacing the internal one. This still incomplete job has required a reimplementation of the audio control register as well as the creation of a new read-only port at address 0xf3. IBM System/23 Datamaster - Testing my first ROM patch
Просмотров 898 месяцев назад
Testing of my first ROM patch for the IBM Datamaster. It sits under ROS 02h and 09h and replaces them by a standard 27128/27256. In this test a 27256 is used. In case of those roms missing or damaged the count wouldn't occur and all leds would stay alight permanently but as the counting proceeds the fix is verified to work. IBM System/23 Datamaster (self-test)

This Datamaster is running on a composite addon. The self-test indicates failure of keyboard and floppy disks. It also marks some ROS ROMs as missing, which was the real issue. Unfortunately my analog electronics knowledge is not as good as I wanted and haven't been able to get a stable picture without recallibrating the circuit each time the computer is turned on. Why the list of numbers?

    • @retroand
      @retroand 6 дней назад

      Every single of those numbers represents a test the computer realizes. From checking if the ROMs are present and are correct, checking if RAM is present and correct, initialize video and check the synchronization signals... Underlined means missing, reversed means faulty. No decoration means that the test succeeded. If you are more interested, I have another video in my channel that explains all of this.

    Is that a Rochester drive I hear in there? No diacritics in the display text except in some of the command names- that is odd.

    • @retroand
      @retroand 9 месяцев назад

      Sorry, we haven't opened the computer yet, so we don't know about its hard disk drive. However when it first engages the headers it makes a very distinctive noise. About the diacritics, I don't know enough. As far as I know this is a Spanish unit but I have nothing else to compare it with.

    Cool, I just got myself one of these...and it definitely needs some cleaning? What kind of product are you using to clean the motherboard?

    • @retroand
      @retroand 9 месяцев назад

      I use a product called KH-7, usually employed in kitchens. If you are sure to clean the motherboard with water, first be sure the capacitors are discharged and after the washing dry it carefully. Also give it a time for the remaining water under the components to dry - otherwise a failure could be induced.

      @@retroand Thanks, yes, just did some readin gon the topic and it seems drying with compressed air is a popular methos...in any case I'll give it time to dry :) Another question: Can you recommend a forum or similar to ask questions when I run into any issues with the restoration of this computer?

    When you go to the next room are you changing scenes or teleporting to another room in the same scene?

    • @retroand
      @retroand 3 года назад

      There is only an instance of teleport in the demo I made, which was between non-adjacent rooms. Everything was implemented in a single scene, with each zone being an object with a tilemap. If made this way, I thought I could load and dispose of them programmatically althought that mechanic was not implemented. Each zone object contains all its rooms within its space and the room change effect is only an illusion - the only thing that changes is a limit imposed by a custom script into the camera bounds, clamping its position. I simplified the algorithm by making all rooms to be of a prefixed size (or multiple), at the practice behaving like the room system of th NDS Castlevania titles.
