Kai's Fishing and Outdoors
США
Добавлен 6 май 2007
I'm just a soft-spoken dude who loves to get out to fish and enjoy nature almost every day. I fish mostly around eastern Iowa with a trip to Minnesota at least once a year. I plan on traveling to more states in the near future to find new adventures and new fish. Come along with me!
I Fished with a Loon While Catching Smallmouth Bass to Keep in Minnesota!
Before anyone comes after me in the comments, the area I was fishing at in Minnesota has a daily limit of 6 smallmouth bass a day (and 6 total in possession) with no size restrictions. The sizes of the fish I kept are probably around the average size for this lake, and there are really a lot of bass in this lake. Also, Smallmouth Bass are delicious!
On this morning, I went out to catch some fish to eat for dinner. I had been fishing every morning I was here (3 days) and this was the first time I saw the loon. The next morning the loon came over while I was fishing with my Dad and actually swam at the bass I had fighting on the end of my line, something I have never experienced before! Tha...

I Tried Fishing a New Place in Northern Iowa!
Просмотров 35221 день назад
I am on my way to Minnesota to fish but found this place on Google Earth the night before and decided to give it a shot. I only stayed about 45 minutes and fishing was slow, but I had one of the best strikes of the year at the end of the session. Apparently there was a leak of sewage reported at this spot a few days ago (9-19-2024). Not sure if it was ongoing when I was there. Thanks for watching!
I Caught a Bunch of Smallmouth Bass in an Hour on the River!

I had an hour to fish before I had to be at work. I wasn't expecting much to happen, but it turned out a lot of fish were schooled up in this area chasing shad around. Nice little surprise species at the end. Thanks for watching!

I finished the video before this one at this spot and didn't show a lot of the blowups and missed hooksets I experienced because I wanted to wrap the video up. I decided I would wake up early on the day I would make my last video public to see if I could find what was crushing shad out in the moving water. Didn't catch what I was expecting to find (wiper or white bass), but did catch a few cool...
Catching Fish to Eat While Trying to Avoid Thrown Projectiles!

Ok, ok, no rock landed near me, but the fact that that person was hurtling rocks in my general direction was a little unnerving, and after a rock got through and hit a tree up off to my left, I had to be a little stern. I tried to get their attention before raising my voice. Either way, it was an interesting morning of fishing, I caught some fish to eat, and I got out to try a couple of spots. ...
Hammering Largemouth Bass in My Favorite Pond Using Top Water!
Просмотров 155Месяц назад
I wasn't even planning on filming today, but my morning pond choice was occupied, and the winding road took me to my favorite pond for catching largemouth bass. I had cracked open a brand new Googan Squad Blooper at the first pond I went to this morning, and decided it might do well for a bass pond video. Lots of the fish that I caught had "follower" bass chasing the lure in the hooked fish's m...
Iowa Musky Heartbreak Part II.

I went out to the lake yesterday morning and wasn't even planning to film while I looked for crappie. I noticed a lot of shad in the water and some subsurface feeding happening, so I switched over to a popper to see if it would get some attention, and while casting around I thought I had a big wiper bite near the shore. Ran to the car, grabbed the camera, made a few more casts, and this happene...
Catching Largemouth Bass and Seeing Iowa Wildlife at the Lake!

This is footage from a couple of days where I spent a little time targeting largemouth bass. Lots of little fish in the shallower rocks right now, still a good time on topwater, got a couple of relatively bigger ones with a plastic crayfish on a quarter ounce jig head. Thanks for watching!
Looking for Walleye but Catching Bass and Crappie in an Iowa Lake!

I've been trying to up my walleye game this summer, and for the most part have been succeeding. However, today I couldn't find any that wanted to stay on the hook anyway. Guess I'll settle for some bass and crappie. Thanks for watching!

Catching Smallmouth Bass and Crappie in the Iowa River!!
Nice area! Great job Kai.
Thanks a lot! Yeah it's beautiful up there!
Are you fishing structure or just casting and reeling randomly in the middle? The loon was curious and hoping for a cheap meal. That was sweet underwater footage of him following the fish. A bunch of nice smallmouth and the little pike was cool!
Thanks for watching! I was mostly fishing a weed line at the beginning, sitting in about 7 feet of water and casting out past the weeds (onto more of a sandy flat) and bringing it in. Sometimes I can find the Smallies (and a lot of pike) around the outside of the weed line and sometimes more on the sand. This fall I found some scattered around these areas, but I found bigger fish out around drop offs from about 10 feet to 20 feet while they were chasing baitfish. I may have another video coming soon showing that too.
Nice video! I couldn’t imagine fishing water with that much clarity
Thanks! I'm so used to cloudy water in Iowa, nice to get into some clear water again!
Nice Smallies! Looking forward to the northern videos.
Thanks! I've been pretty busy recently, but have been getting some editing in. Thanks for watching!
usually hard to catch fish in the middle of the winter. maybe catch a few with bait sitting on the bottom. the fish are lethargic in cold water. if you have suckers there put half a night crawler with #4 hook sitting on the bottom. usually starts about march 20 in southern michigan. so iowa should be about the same time. good luck with your fishing.
That spot at that time of the year youll catch a lot of big carp there. It's a spot i take my daughter to late fall early spring. There's a few more good spots up river also. Ever need any insight for this section just give me a hauler sir be glad to help point you in some directions.
Thanks for the information! If I'm ever heading in that direction again I may do that, I appreciate it!
Damn dude! That was an epic smallmouth! Great job
Thanks man!
I do plenty of roaming around home, but whenever I have gone to northeastern Iowa, I have driven with single-minded purpose of getting to my destination. I think I will take more fishing pitstops in the future.
I think I will too, it's nice to see and try to figure out new places!
Nice outing!
Thanks it was nice to explore a new place for a little bit!
Tank smallmouth blowing up right at your feet. Can't hope for much more on a quick stop like that. Pretty sweet!
Thanks! You're right, I am happy I caught fish at all, the blowup at my feet was icing on the cake!
Hash!
Congratulations!! A tank!
Thank you!
Looks more like 8-12 pounds.
When I lifted her out of the water I guessed she was around 8 pounds as well. I was a little surprised the scale said 6 and a half, maybe I need to check it!
I can spot a honey hole from a mile away and that’s a honey hole. Try fishing for bass there next time
Maybe I'll go back there this fall and give it a shot, not a bad idea, thanks!
Sickkkk
damn! what did you catch it on?
It was just a small green pumpkin curl tail grub! I thought it was a catfish, was not expecting a bass, haha
Wow, ha. Nice!
You slaughtered them!! Nice video Kai.
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Awesome catches! I want a smallmouth something fierce but its probably a 4 hour drive from my place to smallies. Great video
Thanks! Dang that is a long drive for some smallmouth, but in my opinion, it might be worth it. I still think they are one of the hardest fighting fish! Thanks for watching!
It sure is nice when the bite is on, nice catches!
It sure is, no complaints here, haha! Thanks for giving the video a view!
Wow, fire bite for sure! They were even biting out in the middle away from the rocks. Hopefully you went back the next day! The spotted bass was a stud!
I went back after work in the middle of the night hoping to find some more, but only found some crappie. I did go the next day but didn't catch anything. It was fun while it lasted! Thanks for watching!
Lots of fun seeing the gar.
I agree, definitely enjoy seeing them as well!
That gar is an awesome catch
Yeah, gar are pretty cool fish! Thanks for watching!
Great smallie!! I hear gar are good to eat, but I haven’t had it yet. Nice video Kai.
Thanks! I've never tried gar yet either, but would definitely give it a try! Thanks for watching!
I know someone who was fishing near this spot with his son. His son caught a gar and wanted to eat it, reading that it tastes like lobster. They went straight home and grilled it. It was the worst thing they tasted. The father spit out the first bite. The son smiled through his first bite, and I don't remember if he had a second one, but there definitely wasn't a third bite. I forget how the father described the taste, but I do remember him saying it was rubbery and far from lobster.
Nice!
Thank you I appreciate it!
Nice Smallie!
Thanks! It was nice to find one with a little bit of size to it!
Really good video
Thanks!
nice catch mate
Thanks!
Wtf with those dillholes throwing rocks! I had that happen one time. I went after them! Lol They ran away pretty dang fast. Probably for the best.
I'm not sure what makes a grown person throw rocks like that, but if it kept up they probably wouldn't have liked the consequences, lol!
BRO! That's some HEARTBREAK right there!!
Hey man! Yeah that last one hurt a little bit!
Nice crappie. Definitely great eating. Enjoyed the video. Tight lines 🎣
Thanks for watching! I love crappies, they are definitely good eating! Tight lines to you too!
Pretty slick little intro for this video. I guess the guy was actually trying to hit you with the rocks. That's a new one. Nice crappies! I saw a guy with some pictures of some big wipers from your second spot.
Thanks! I'm not sure if he was trying to hit me, or just releasing some anger or what, but they seemed to be getting closer and I wanted to make it clear that I was there. I am pretty sure there were some wipers or a big school of white bass while I was at the second spot. I kind of wanted to wrap up the video so didn't leave any of the blowup footage in. Thanks for watching!
Got some crazies under those bridges.
Haha yeah I guess so!
I love throwing a popper. That was the perfect conditions for it. Great job.
Thanks! Poppers have done pretty well for me this year. Thanks for watching!
Nice stuff man. Just subscribed to the channel for future vids. Good luck out there and tight lines man.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! Tight lines to you as well!
Man them were some hungry bass! Nice one
Hey thanks man! Yeah they were really fired up this day. I appreciate you watching!
That was a good show my man. Tough stuff.
I went there a bunch last fall but haven't been there much since. How are the lower ponds doing?
I haven't been over there a lot this year, I think I only went to the middle pond once, and the lower pond twice actually, and I was only catching small bass each time. I can say the housing development in that area is in high gear though, lots of new buildings around. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Nice job!! Pond is full of them.
Thanks! Yeah this pond is really good for bass. Thanks for watching!
Non-stop action and the fish are fighting over it. Pretty sweet!
Thanks, yeah it's pretty cool when they are fighting over the lure underwater. I've seen it a lot more with smallies up north, but this year I've seen it a few times with the largemouth. Thanks for watching!
Nice catches!
Thanks!
That’s sucks. Up at spirit lake I hooked on to one about 3ft. About had her in the boat and “SNAP”!! It definitely sucks. Great job Kai.
It's the worst when you can get them up to you and then they snap off. Feels like if you did one thing different you could be holding them. It really does suck. Thanks though!
I can hear the pain in your voice even though it was calm after losing that muskie bruh.
I'm so used to losing them I guess it is just normal now. I'm kind of reserved in that way, but it was painful trust me, haha
@@KaisFishing Videos like these always remind to always use thick fluorocarbon leader (30+) just in case. And it had saved me in several instances
Yeah I totally understand. I have spent a little money for a heavier setup to go after some bigger fish now. I have been using some lower pound test mono for top water mainly on the lighter rod.
Great footage!
I'm happy just to see them, thanks!
The calmness of the way you said "that's a muskie" after he jumped. I would have been freaking out. Looked like a good one and he gave you some great jumps! Not much you can do about the break off.
Haha, yeah I freak out internally, I guess. I was instantly shaking after that first jump. It looked like the lure was long gone, shouldn't have let him take it for so long but thought it was a wiper at first. Thanks for watching!
Dude that was sick!
Yeah, I've never seen a musky jump out this high, and he actually jumped at least this high again later in the fight. Crazy!
That's awesome! Did you catch him?
Thanks! He put up a really good fight, I'll say that much. I'll try to have a longer form video tomorrow of the whole thing.
Love minks bro. Definitely would want to see how you do your line for sure next time. This lake is fire 🔥🔥
Yeah it's an amazing lake! I will show how I put line on next time I need to, which might be soon after these trips haha
Do you ever come up to Pleasant Creek Lake? Been trying for walleye there and Macbride with no luck. Awesome video!
Thanks, I appreciate that! I have never been there actually, and honestly didn't even realize it was there, but after checking it out, it looks like a great spot. I'll have to give it a look sometime. Thanks for putting it on the map for me!
After you announced you were running out of line I expected you to hook a muskie within a few casts. That would have been entertaining to see you try to manage the line. Good largemouth and spotted bass lake!
Haha, you're right, that would have been quite the predicament! It really is a good bass lake, definitely some good sized ones in there. I appreciate you watching!
I always had the same issues changing line. Now I stick with triple braid and problem went away. Nice catches and great shot of that mink. Very cool 👍🏻
Thanks I appreciate that! The mink was a cool surprise, I haven't seen many of them. Thanks for watching!
