Great video! Lots of knowledge
Thanks!
What about Bob cat bro?
Check out the rest of the channel! There’s videos on bobcat, cougar, and others
Thanks For Clarifying 👍
You’re welcome!
@ForestFound We got everything here,in Southern Alberta 🇨🇦 Cheers from an,Bush Gal love the Outdoors much.
There is definitely a bobcat in my area
nice!
That was a dog.
Also, with coyote tracks you can draw a horizontal line across the track separating the front two toe pads from the back two toe pads.
Fox vs, Coyote. Opossum vs. Raccoon. :)
That’d be a good one! Coming soon…
It could be a dog owner with 2 dogs, right?
While technically possible as they are both canine tracks, the smaller tracks check every box I would expect to match coyote, the and bigger ones the same for domestic dog
I ran over a Coyote in a Mustang on the way to work this morning!! 🤣🤣🤣
Your 'coyote' tracks do not include claw marks. Dogs do not have retractable claws. Cats have retractable claws. Cats also have rounder paw prints. Just from living and working in the mountains of Nevada and New Mexico. I have had bear, racoons, coyotes, bobcats, and cougars in my backyard. Also skunks. Except for the apparent small size of the prints I would say the small ones were bobcats. Several of these used to live on my land.
Great advice 🇺🇸👍💯
Thanks!
Helpful; thanks.
You’re welcome!
I think you are totally we wrong! What is your credentials? Wild animals need to have paw and long nails to dig and hunt preys!
Badger vs skunk
Thanks❤😊👍🇨🇦🙏
You’re welcome!
Coyotes are dogs.
I agree with your observations. I do a lot of hiking in an area of Florida that has lots of tracks and I have discovered a lot about tracking.it is very interesting. We also have a number of black bear in our area. They have a very distinctive track. I often come out of a trail and find black bear tracks crossing my trail and sometimes mulling over my tracks before moving on. I have only had one that stayed in my trail for awhile and I didn’t particularly appreciate it. I think it only broke away when it detected me coming back through.
Awesome!
Found your video today after I found some winter oysters. They are really dense and very wet so wanted to know how to cook them. Easy to follow method. Thank you. Love the bit at the end where the bag of shrooms are literally tossed in the freezer. LOL! It is the end of December and where I live, we just finished a cold snap so no bugs or worms in these shrooms!
Awesome! Love that this helped you out, enjoy the mushrooms!
Disagreement about a track featured in another place has me reaching out to you for your opinion. YT often deletes my comments and replies and it appears to have happened again. Therefore, I've sent an image of the print to your school's account on elon's site. I could not DM, so I sent it as a comment to one of the school's older postings: "Do we love mud, or what?!" from January 2022 -- it seemed the most appropriate as the track, which I believe was made by a bobcat, but other insist was a coyote, was left in mud 😁.
send the pic to "forestfoundtracking@gmail.com". I just updated the Channel homepage to make that available. I'll definitely take a look and get back to you!
@@ForestFound Thank you! Moments ago, I sent the email message with a screenshot of the print, together with a link to the YT video at that frame. The video pans from the larger print to the smaller accompanying ones.
Having observed raptors perched upon the carcasses of gamebirds that I've shot, including ducks and geese, and plucking the breast feathers before I could locate and recover the game, the more consolidated distribution of feathers makes perfect sense as a clue to identifying what type of predator killed a bird when nothing remains at the kill site but feathers. That noted, I can't say that the thought ever occurred to me before. I'm surprised and pleased to be learning outdoor skills from someone so young--a fresh perspective can be illuminating!
Awesome! That's great you've got first hand experience to back up some of the things I was mentioning, that's always the best.
@@ForestFound You might find it interesting that the location where I first observed hawks dropping in for a snack on gamebirds I had shot but not gotten to before the predators is a nice varied habitat of wheat fields bounded by weedy edges, sagebrush, rocky patches, and the columnar basalt at the edges of old lava flows. Both dry and wet-bottomed coulees etch a few cuts that web the area. The first time I hunted the region was in a dry October more than forty years ago. Having no bird dog, I was simply trying to "walk-up" some pheasants. The birds made me look totally inept! I turned things around on a later visit when there was fresh snow on the ground--the key was tracking down individual roosters! The long tails of the mature males leave a distinctive trace in the snow anywhere they takeoff or alight.
Just found your channel today while searching for cougar vs bobcat vs coyote tracks information. I saw a track pictured in another RUclips video that I think was made by a bobcat, whereas the videographer, whose own first impression was also cat (cougar), ends up declaring it a coyote track based upon his "tracking experts." (I presume he went online from the field because of context.) You already pointed out a feature of felid vs canid tracks that I had not specifically noticed or been taught when you showed the difference in the "Negative Space" geometry of the different tracks. I thank you for that clearly presented information. It only required one view of your videos to make me a subscriber, and I look forward to watching your journey while wishing you success! EDIT: Given the environment of your introduction, I can't help but ask if you are located in my own neighborhood, the soggy Olympic Peninsula, or somewhere else in the PNW? EDIT 2: The hat Robby was wearing in another "Forest Found" video--I like that simple name for what your channel is doing; it's descriptive but leaves plenty of latitude for subject matter--answered my first edit's question!
Glad you like it! Yes, located in the rainy PNW, plenty of good animals for tracking!
Hi. I just found your channel an hour or two ago. Whether on foraging or tracking, all the videos I've seen have been excellent. I appreciate the time and energy you put into each one and look forward to watching many more. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the kind words!
What’s the difference between a WOLF and a dog or coyote? Please do a video on that?
Good question. I don’t find a lot of wolf tracks where I live so I’m not as familiar with them. But that said, some similar principles to the coyote will apply to the wolf as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a video sometime
Interesting
Good stuff. Many thanks. I am watching this with a GSD on each side & one at my feet, 2 in the DR and the other 3 are laying around somewhere. "Couch potatoes" my daughters laughed when you said that and looked at me smiling. Thank you.
Ha! Awesome
Nice job thanks
You’re welcome!
Thank for the information 😊
You’re welcome!
Thanks. I have seen cougar tracks in the woods when we lived in Colorado. I knew they were cat tracks vs dog tracks but I couldn't articulate really why they looked so different to me.
Awesome! Keep looking for more tracks out there…
That was very interesting. Thank you for the knowledge.
You’re welcome!
Same thing with foxes?
Similar! Red foxes often have lots of fur on their feet which will make the tracks more obscure. Also foxes are much smaller than coyotes
Actually, you pronounce the E in coyote. Like he did at least once in this otherwise excellent video. It's important to know if there are coyot(ees) in your area. They will indeed track people especially kids.
Dumb Democrat.
Are you talking front foot or hind foot because that makes a big difference?
Great question. The general ideas here should hold true for both front and hide feet, but as you know, on all canine the front feet will be larger and wider than the hind feet
I see many tracks that are similar to the mule deer tracks you show, but not the same. The toes are sharper, more clearly separated, and there is less difference in width from back to front.
Nice! Mule deer tracks can vary so much. I find that the tracks look a lot different based on the age of the animal, the age of the track, the speed the animal was going, and the substrate the track was made in
How bout a large Fox. I know people argue with me. But in our area, it's not uncommon for foxes to be 20lbs plus. In fact, some of us have Fox hind that is the same size as Coyotes. .. Now call this BS. like I hear so many times.
Lol, we've made our poor dogs into privileged slugs like us.
Ha!
Finding a well spoken youtuber is like finding a haven in the storm.
that was great ! Thanks! I know they are everywhere and I always wonder when I see tracks in out of the way places.
You’re welcome, happy tracking!
I hike a nature center here in Calif daily and I always see these tracks. This was the first explanation about the differences I've seen.
Awesome! It can be tough at first but you can definitely learn to tell the difference
Good info. Noticed some this morning and initially hoped they'd be bobcat tracks because the central pad behind the toes was a bit washed out. But then there was that barely noticeable tiny prick of the claws.
Oooh nice
This was a great find & very educational! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome!
So a fit dog that spends most of its time outside will leave coyote tracks?
It’s tracks will be more easily confused with coyote for sure, but a close observation would still reveal differences
Good info ! TY!
You’re welcome!
Really nice job explaining the difference. Thank you!
You’re welcome!
You can tell by the way it is
Did you get it right though??
@@ForestFound ... no comment. I'm too rusty on my Forest Found content. Will have to go back and rewatch!
You got me. I was sure it was dog, with the splayed out toes and runaway claw marks. Nice!
Ya these were super tricky!
it fooled me. I was sure it was a dog
This was a really tough set for sure
Awesome video!
Thanks!
