@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature It's nice that you are enjoying wildlife and are able to spend time filming it. Not knowing the names of different fish or mice species is not important, no naturalist knows everything. 🙂

@@lesterstanden2435 the joys of trail cams i can leave them out and see the beauties without disturbing them, tho i would love to see a marten by eye one day :). Its a hobby more than anything professional really :) , I know theres trout in the rive and have seen a heron catch either eels or lamphreys not sure which ones :)

sadly i didnt know it was around until an hr after it started. I had my cameras set to 20 sec exposure and 3200 iso. f2.8. Cameras pointing north too so wouldnt have caught it anyways unless i knew it was there at the time to change camera direction which is classic lol

we use hawk to determine a few birds even buzzards are hawks, sparrowhawks, kestrels, harriers etc. Hawks a collective term in the UK

Just got to this, im still catchiing up after days off :). Sadly the best fossils are on the other side of the river but it was too deep and fast flowing for me to get Wolfy over it.

was a flop for me really, first part of night was covered in cloud, then i got an hour of clearing which i put cam out again, then it rained on the camera even tho no rain was forecast !!, give up at 12.30ish and then it kicked off after that, but prob still cloudy, I didnt even get to see the moon come up lol , supposed to be here again tonight but raining now here

You know the saying everything tastes like chicken? well chicken was actually on menu lol. The Gulls also get fresh white fish fillets and love sugar free peanut butter

My mum Fox is back to regular nightly visits but i think shes moved her cubs further away and grounded them cos they kept beating her to the goodies. Still have videos to process but not seen them for a while but im sure there just grounded lol

They often get confused with an eagle when in flight, but they are smaller and classed as a Hawk :)

They are pretty amazing bird although surprised it ate the slug when theres lots of rodents and worms around. I love hearing two of them talk to each other across the forest on a night time :)

Thankyou :) They do have a very eerie scream and noises, great in the pitch black night and you cant see anything lol. You should check out the Little Minx Fox Cub videos had such a character and a little sod lol, All grown up now and gone off into the wilderness on its own :)

lol thats cute, i found all the midges btw !! they were all up at kilmaluig yesterday Even in the breeze they managed to swarm, Had to abandon ship from sitting on the rocks it was such a massive swarm. Poor Wolfy was covered in thousands of black dots and i dont know how many i managed to swallow before escaping lol

@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature euw. the taste of swallowed midgies. yuuuuk. Oddly I've still none and not even a single insect at all today, literally nothing. I'm starting to hope 'ive got some clothes moths left somewhere.

@@mythtree6348 im seeing a lot more insects than last year on the field, which is a good sign.Seeing Bees, Butterflies and Dragon Flies, its starting to warm so we will hopefully see more, just need the rain and winds to go away then can finally get out on the boat. Was gutted i missed the Orcas at Neist last week :(

Lol that actually made me laugh about no deer or lymes around, even the vets has signs up for it, What many dont realise is Deer dont actually have lymes, Ticks are already infected from small animals and birds, even like blackbirds that carry the lyme bacteria. Strangely enough deer kill off lymes, and when they get bit by an infected tick they produce antibodies that circulate in the blood kill it off . it will even kill the bacteria in the tick itself if its still gorging on the treated blood. I know not all ticks carry the disease also. I was bitten when i was 16 and had the bullseye rash but never ended up with lymes. That wasnt on Skye though it was Northumberland. So rather than avoid Deer areas where deer actually kill off the disease. i dont worry too much as Its probably safer lol, Ive seen deer ticks and they are tiny little things compared to sheep ticks which are larger. Wolfy my dog likes to collect them and bring them home lol But I always found that intriguing about deer being immune and can even work as a vaccine for the tick lol. Yet the beautiful little blackbird and even robin carry the bacteria, so if a tick gets on those it can get infected and then get you lol. irony huh :)

@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature ahh glad you are aware . Yes it's in mice and rats and birds and allsorts, and in their pee. The big and small ticks are the same species generally, live on sheep and deer and many other things. I think you may well be correct about deer . My friend got lots of bites and rashes and tested positive but when he took antibiotics he got sicker and the ticks no longer fell off him. He thinks he was immune prior to the antibiotics.

@@mythtree6348 wouldnt you think if the activated antibodies in deer can clean up any new ticks that bite them also, they would make a vaccine from that blood lol. Thats possible he was, i know i had antibiotics when i was bit. but never had any more bites since. The horse flies love me though lol. luckily i dont react like my mum she gets a serious infection from a horse fly bite and has to have antibiotics. So did he end up not being cured of the lymes? I have chronic fibromyalgia so know know how debilitating the pain can be. They seem to have similarities in symptoms so i was tested for lymes when i started to show signs of fibro. I dont catch cold or flu so luckily immune to those , just everything else is falling to bits lol

@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature bless you. It would help if we could get vets and drs to talk together . I've tried for years but they live in different worlds. Its well known that your body can develop resistance that makes a reaction to ticks saliva and so they fall off. My friend had that. They never attached. After the abx the ticks started attaching all the time. People here keep catching lyme getting treated catching it again , over and over. I think its better to develop that saliva reaction if possible. I come up in bumps from everything. its why im so glad theres no midgies at all this year. Probably means the ecology is collapsing or something but at least i dont look like a raspberry this year.

Early morning is usually a good time to spot them around Skye . Keep trying you will get there :)

It varies to be honest depending on the post or tree i can place them, and my target area. For me its any where between ground level for small or ground animals and 4 or 5 ft on trees for the likes of deer. Then i angle the camera some times with a stick placed behind the top or bottom at back. I just use the view screens on the Browning Cameras to position a target area center screen though when im placing them . hope that helps

@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature they got very brave during lockdown times and assumed they had the area to themselves .. lol . Once they realiseds people were still a 'thing' i think they moved on. There was a fire or two which burned trees . I guess that could give them piney ptsd.

@@mythtree6348 they are always getting sprains and injuries sadly, posted one other day where the Stag slipped in the river and sprained its leg on the camera , poor thing. Also midge hatch day today

@@mythtree6348 pfft we had showers and cloud yesterday lol tho clear night and full sun today, Tho they wont come out when its full sun or windy, They hatch and go to ground or in shadows and sheltered areas, Evening when it cools and if wind is low is usually when we get swamped and they hang around the sheltered areas by the boat or car. so even slight breeze can help keep them at bay

My pet wild gulls are sods for snotting the windows looking for me. When i go away i come back to a lot of snot as you can imagine lol Ive never tried to tame them to be honest as i worry about them getting hurt by others, but Baby Gully whos now about 4 or 5 doesnt wait for me to put fish down he grabs it off me so i can hand fish to him. Midges were out this morning too :(

@@AzureOceans_Skye_Nature Awwww gulls can be a bit much . We used to rear the baby gannets too.. only time ive had to wear an actual nose peg :) yup, finally found the midgies. I think you are right about their comeback months :/
