Richard Drummie interview by Kendall and Stu 102.3 HFM
A lot of people think that Aynsley Dunbar was Journey's first drummer. Prairie was only in Journey for a few months.
Yep you're right !
I've see the Tubes three times with different drummers: Jerry Marotta, Trey Sabatelli, come to mind. Prairie is definitely an integral part of the Tubes.
In early 78' Al DiMeola's manager came into the record store where I was working and asked whether or not we had all three of his albums in stock, (only had the 1st two in). I told him that The Wizard might be my favorite track on the first album and he said he thought Mingo Lewis was a better composer than Al. Couldn't argue with him after checking out the Flight Never Ending album, Frankincense and Heartsong are killers. His band The Tong were great live too...love the Santana story!
Did not know Prairie Prince played with Journey. In Journey's history videos Prairie Prince is never mentioned.
I didn`t know the Santana story! & didn`t know he was only 15! Brilliant conga, bongo player. His playing on Caravanserai is awesome. Thanks. (West Yorkshire,England.)
Amazing interview. I can relate to being thrust up on stage to cover a missing drummer for a band I’d never even seen before. What a lovely gent and a great story about his mum and his early days.
A bit perverse that powell knows this but he single handily destroyed this concept.
Amazing to learn all these years later in 2022 that in the early days they did songs by Todd. One of the greatest artists ever. Great band. saw them not long ago.
Peter Cox is open, friendly and humble. He's enormously talented and has a signature voice: as soon as you hear him you know who it is. He's looked after his voice and he and Richard continue to make great records. Also check out his solo album Peter Cox released in 1997, a masterpiece. Alan Murphy you are not forgotten.
Thanks for these interviews of The Tubes!
R Steen is a cool dude, way talented.
Dave (ya know ) Hill
That’s not Roger Steen
Yes It Is. It May Not Sound Like Him Because Most People Who Saw The Tubes In Concert Are Used To Hearing His Voice On Stage. Especially If You Were To Hear Him Sing On A Tubes Song. And On Stage. It's Probably Because You're Not Used To Hearing Him Talking On A Speaker That Sounds Like He's On The Phone Or Answering Machine.
Sounds just like him.
I’ve met him and his voice is way higher than this
@@alecbilicki8520That is him B.S. people's voices changes wow this is such a dumb argument.
Fantastic drummer! I Saw The Tubes last Friday . They played over two hours and kicked butt !
Saw them for the first time a week ago, loved it.
i would love to have Kasim on my show.. I already had Todd. Danny Miranda.... working on Jules!!!!!!!!!
Yep!
man i seem rtf in 74 mingo wasnt w them then what yr did he play w rtf? pls sdvise
There are some live recordings with Return to Forever with Steve Gadd on drums and Mingo on percussion around 1973
OMG, so charismatic and humane and talented. Is he still married.
😍
This woman is an idiot! UGH!
That woman is my wife, mind the mouth.
Awesome drummer. just saw you in Big Bear. Fantastic show. Can't wait to see you again.
This fake asshole on this audio recording doesn't know his asshole from his elbow. The REAL Mingo Lewis was a prodigy on Percussion and Composition... whoever this guy talking is a moron and fake...
Go listen to "Race With the Devil on a Spanish Highway". That's the REAL Mingo Lewis, not this idiot you are listening to. ;-) Please use Headphones and preferably HiFi Vinyl to hear the TRUE Latin Percussion experience.
This guy is a complete fake douchebag... period. He doesn't even know what he's talking about and can't even play... WTF?! No Coonga drums, and NO Timbales... again, no Coonga drums... WTF?! This guy is a complete fake...
So what is this guy trying to pass himself off as the guy that played Congas and wrote songs for Al DiMeola and wrote and produced his own Fusion Jazz albums?! Or do they just have the same name?! That's really odd... you're not the REAL Mingo Lewis. The real one was the best Conguero I've ever heard... what the **** is a "Coonga"?! You sound like a complete fraud to me. What's your website link?! You're trying to steal the REAL "Mingo Lewis" name, aren't you. What a douche...
I can assure you that it is the one and only Mingo Lewis.
Cool if so he is one of my idols
+Rob Davis Mine too Rob. I'm Stu by the way. I did the interview.
These interviewers interrupted Kas- I think he was trying to tell them- as I was there- Utopia played the Ra set in 1976 along with 10cc, Hot Tuna, Lynrd Skynrd, Steve Hillage and the Rolling Stones. The organisers felt they were so well received that they asked them back in 1979- where they then played before Led Zep. Utopia is one of very few bands to have played Knebworth twice! They ROCKED the joint!! Loved Utopia....
Charming eloquent (talented) chap ... nice when that happens.
"I didn't title it". Lol. That's funny.
What a prize twat! Shame on you, Powell - you're a mean-spirited gobshyte
The guy scares the crap outta me XD
great story!
Very cool........I so admire Kasim.......
Utopia concerts were the absolute best! Todd Rundgren and Kasim Sulton were great singing together.
Sweet!
***AWESOME*** <3
Love it :) x
Awesome!! Well done Logan xx
Very impressive :) xx
great interview
Scott Holiday totally rocks! Great riffs, mean tone & lovely guy~
Great Interview - nicely done - you guys did a good job capturing the personality of the man: monster talent that he is.
Ser Ilyn Payne!
I'm Richards 3rd cousin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great interview once again and so want to be with you all to go see the show GO WEST!
Fantastic GO WEST, thanks for posting
ohh really nice tio John!
Thanks Stu and Kendall hope to have more in the future with the both of you.
I had a big crush on peter nothing has chaged but his hair.
@varnish76 spot on. Peter Cox is a fantastic powerful vocalist, combined with the great lyrics and songs. That first Go West album was absolute perfection. The music was great, the lyrics were great, the production was amazing. That album was one of the best of the entire decade.
