and then we have the moronic casting of and writing for Tilley. there is only one thing that makes me cringe worse when they attempt humor with her, and that is the wise ass woman at con that is always making some stupid wise crack meant as humor. these writers were horrible with those two. it made the show unwatchable.

Discovery is such a turd it's unreal. Only good scenes are with Pike.

All the actors who played the role of the captain of the starship Entrepise did not imitate KIRK. They respected his excellence and built their own path. We realized that they bowed to Roddemberry's idea of the principles of the star fleet, and this was sovereign. Pike's role fit Anson Mount like a glove, and only he could do the episode in which he shows another people how humanity almost destroyed its own planet without making it a sermon on the mount or an example to follow.

This is the moment that Discovery finally became a true "Star Trek" show.

Since the events from "The Cage" takes place 13 years before the original Star Trek series and Discovery takes place a decade before the original series, that would lead to Discovery taking place 3 years after "The Cage".

I gotta say that I love the out-of-text context surrounding this scene. It shouldn't be too controversial to point out that Star Trek Discovery started out pretty heavy on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion front. And befitting to that theme, Discovery's last captain, Lorca - who was a heterosexual white guy by the way - actually turned out to be evil. Discovery's bridge crew being guarded and wary about another new face taking control of their ship is the exact kind of wariness of most DEI inclined minds report having towards yet another straight white man being in charge. And Pike carries all that. Unapologetically, but with grace, humility, politeness and courtesy, and most importantly without any trace of ego. He does it *empathetically* even by not not taking their attitudes personally, but by instead acknowledging the underlying wound that caused them. A more sharp-tongued and witty captain like Riker or Kirk would have lost them immediately, but Pike is the perfect model to demonstrate how to build trust even under those circumstances.

"With your permission, Commander Saru." That line more than anything else sealed it. So much respect, class, courtesy. The whole bridge crew looks shell-shocked.

Discovery is such a strange show 😅 It has some of the greatest and also some of the most cringe Star Trek moments!

This changed Discovery from a wanna be to an actual authentic Star Trek show. No wonder they created "Brave New World". This is what Star Trek fans expected..Enterprise in all its majesty and her famous crew.

I like my trek but this show is just all over the place. Pike was the only reason I started watching but just dropped it for Strange new worlds. Story telling is a bit better.
