It is so important when we produce reports on accessibility, inclusion and access to information that we ensure our reports and documents are accessible themselves. We MUST walk the walk when it comes to distributing accessible information. I am including a video here of my review of the document AND I have an accessible version of the document available for UNHCR should they want it.

You explain even complex topics in an accessible way.
@13:35 I could have simply renamed the TDs to LI and then moved them up. Just goes to show that everyone learns and grows the more you remediate documents! :)
Content is fantastic! Why does this video lack the ability to show closed captions? Would love to share but cannot due to the lack of captions.
Has anyone pointed out that all the tables with "less than" symbols should actually be "less than or equal to" and this also affects the table summary in the nvda or jaws or other reader app?
This video was extremely helpful! Thank you for posting!
how do i add a row
All rows start with a TR tag. Then make sure you have the same number of TDs in that TR as all other TRs in that table structure to remain compliant
Thanks Man!!
This was a really awesome explanation of this process! Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly.
Would have definitely liked more if the other elements alternate text issue was resolved
Hi there, thanks for video. I applied it easily due to the good explanation. However is there a way to apply the structure on similar PDFs. I have a complex table 1 page long, which repeats 500+ times with other numbers. Only the numbers change, everything else in the table stays the same.
Fabulous content. I've been looking for check marks on table cells and accessibility. You explained it all so clearly, thanks so much.
Dax -- first, thanks for this. Super useful information. I use it ALL the time. However, I wonder how necessary this is in terms of the final disabled user experience. This comes up a lot, and often, it comes up in docs with LOTs of multi-line links. I worry that it might be a bit of a waste of time if I'm manually fixing every single one. Any thoughts?
We actually talked about that very specific thing in our podcast a few months ago and came to the conclusion. That while it is definitely not a good user. Experience for someone to hear the link twice and have to skip twice. It is not considered a significant barrier, but does violate info and relationships in that theirs is supposed to be one link and not 2 and careful attention has to be paid if someone were to try to inspect that U. R. L Based on the text that was the hyperlink and not the actual link itself that it might give them a false result
If I take image field, it showing 3 errors. Screen Flicker, Script, Timed Response. How can be fixed?
Thank you so much! I appreciate your clarity and also your presentation style, easy to follow and engaging at the same time! Thanks again! :)
The latest version works great with the latest InDesign versions! Thank you so much, Dax, for this great plugin!
I will reach out by email
Hi, I am getting below error in PAC checker. Can you please suggest how to fix. Error Message: Non-standard structure type "FE_Note" is neither mapped to a standard structure type nor to another non-standard structure type
You need to set the role map. Right click on any tag. Edit role map. Add... then add FE_Footnote and map to P.
Awesome. It's fixed now. Thanks for your reply.@@a11y
thank you
I seem to remember hearing that IDs (of all kinds) have to be unique within a document. Does that apply to tables ? If so if you have more than one page of complex tables in a PDF this feature may need some touch up to the IDs. Still a great feature and easy to tag complex tables this way.
The IDs are automatically generates in sequence and only need to be unique to that table. Acrobat handles multiple tables with Cell IDs just fine. There are MCIDs too. Those do have to be completely unique across the whole doc.
Do you have any videos on Excel accessibility, and what should be converted into a PDF?
Excel always requires manual fixes because everything exports as tables and most of the time not accurately.
This seems like such a great tool. However, when I tried to download the trial from your link i get a file not found error.
Thanks for making me aware of the broken link. accessibilityscripts.com/store/product/color-contrast-validator-trial/
Thank you! I was able to download it now. @@PDFA
Thanks for your great demonstration. I have a question - instead of tagging the actual text in a cell “red. 3” would it be possible to tag it “3. Footnote” That would eliminate the color accessibility problem and Eliminate the ugly aesthetics of a colored cell. Is it possible and ok practise to do it in that way?
If you have a Table of Contents with leader lines, how do you handle the leader lines so they aren't read without having to artifact them in the pdf after it's created? Using InDesign.
EXcellent
That was great thank you!
This video was super helpful! Thank you so much!
of course! Happy to help!
Great presentation; thank you.
Thank you very much. The most efficient tutors on Accessibility! Bravo
Always helpful
Well explained. Thank you
Thank you, Castro. You are a big help!
So good, thank you!
The best on the topic I found. Thank you very much!
But instead of creating 19 different L1-tags couldn't you just select all the TH and right click and properties - and decide that they are going to be LBody instead? And then the same with the TR to make them into LI - and the Table into L?
Absolutely brilliant, thanks Dax
Yeah this is very help fully
HI - You guys are amazing! On the podcast version of this episode, you mentioned "Access PDF" as a tool you use. It sounded like a non-Adobe product. Could you please share the product info? Thanks!

Hi Castro, this video just deserves thousands likes more! greetings from Italy
Thank you! I knew I'd seen this before, but don't do too many tables. Really appreciated this refresher to make sure I was doing it correctly!
I am interested in installing the script! Where do I find it?
Get a free trial at accessibilityscripts.com/shop
If you are on a mac, don't bother with the paid version, it doesn't work! the free one does though.
@@sarahcleworth I am glad that we were able to get it working on your Mac. Sorry the initial version had issues.
Hi Dax, Thanks. works fine. However while validating im getting "Associated with content - Failed" error. How to resolve that
Since this video was released Adobe has changed the way it evaluates tables. This technique will pass PAC but not Acrobat. So yeah, not really a workable solution. Now you have to "Edit PDF" then add the text, create the tag and insert it into the TH. You can color it the same as the background to keep the visual presentation. But yeah. It is a process.
Thanks Dax. This is helpful
Sadly enough, the presentation shared the Application window for Acrobat only and not the complete computer screen, so you did not see Callas PDF2HTML at all with the tables…! For those wondering what the heck he was talking about with tables and the Callas plug in ;-)
@35:09 Yes! You are right. No one in the session said anything. I wonder if they were able to see it and it was just the recording source that was limited to the application. :(
How do you fix this in Acrobat?
@4:50 starts the Acrobat fix. You have to have Acrobat Pro to fix it.
I have a question about how to handle pages with headers and footers, page numbering and such. Should you have the reader read each page? if so, should the page number be in the header to be read first or in the footer? Thanks great video and new subscriber.
Not unless you are trying to meet WCAG AAA. Running header and footer information should be artifacted unless maybe at first use if the header has meaningful info. Acrobat keeps track of page numbers so the user doesn't have to hear it as they are reading through content. Great question and thanks for subscribing!
Is there something we have to turn on in the preferences to enable the shortcuts? I'm having trouble getting the shortcuts to work. Thanks in advance!
These are simply the hot keys to access the menu items. It is just a matter of using them in sequence. If you look at the menu items you will see the correct key underlined for these elements. Are you Mac or PC?
@@PDFA Thank you for the reply. I'm on a Mac and I did find a setting in preferences "Use single-key accellorators". It enabled some of the key selections but not all. I suspect there may be some interference from the Parallels application.
So from my understanding, Voiceover on a Mac doesn't work the same as NVDA or Jaws, correct? Can you recommend a program for Mac users for read aloud purposes? I've done all the steps necessary to make my tables accessible, but Voiceover still doesn't announce the cells properly.
You are correct. If you are a MAC user and remediating documents, testing on a PC with NVDA or JAWS should be part of your workflow. You can run Parallels (PC Emulator) but I hear there are some keyboard shortcut issues that require workarounds. Someone asked in our PDF Accessibility Facebook group about that as well. Sadly, the only option for MAC is Apple Voice Over. However there is a new screen reader for Mobile called AD Reader that will be available for MAC in the next month or so.
