Time too move forward and getting this FLH torn down.
I like the way you do business. Keep the rubber side down!
Thanks for watching :)
That cap is for drum brakes . Should not be used for disk
@@pmastrol same parts that were put on are the same ones that were in the master cylinder, brakes worked fine. Actually that cap you're talking about was not used.
So far all the numbers check out from Harley Archive, 😊

I purchased a 1976 FLH in 1981 and it has not given me any problem I changed out the swing arm shaft right away and road that motor and trans to 53000 plus miles and now have and SS 84 with original cases good machine although many people say AMF had a problem. I must’ve got a good one.
The only problem the AMF bikes had was a case fitment problem. Mechanically their sounds motors. If it wasn't for the blob of JB weld underneath the right case I would even be considering a lower end. If these Shovel are well maintained and cared for no reason you couldn't get 100k plus miles without problems, but when people just do band aid fixes just to keep it on the road those catch up to you in the end.
Don’t buy HARLEY DAVIDSON instead buy German BMW or Japanese Goldwing
Why you think BMW or Honda doesn't have their own problems?
Heck ya 👍🏼👍🏼
Still have to pull the motor.. Lol. At least one part is coming to and end.
@@daygersden 👍🏼
I use FLITZ but there paste formula works better then there liquid polish touch more abrasive. Cant wait to see the bike when you get it done too.
Haven't tried the paste I'll have to get some I also have the cleaner in spray bottle although not really sure how helpful it is.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
👋🏼👋🏼
I see you're just like the exhaust I bought for my 1970 it came with like dual exhaust on one side modern style. But yours like mine mine has a Kickstart on it and your exhaust if you ever wanted to could you could put a Kickstart on your bike because the exhaust is shaped that way the manifold
Ya, I've Been thinking about the possibility of adding a kick start. I've been trying to find out for some time why some 76 FLH 's had kick starts and some didn't. Couldn't find out anything from the factory if it was and option back then.
@@daygersden yeah I wonder if my 1970 they all had kickstarts or not I don't know. You know unless the motor is too big. It's a great option to have I think it's a must-have really. Only weigh 130 lb so I have to put a good effort into it but I can start it within a couple of kicks if you know the secret procedure for joke throttle etc.
I found a good ignition it's the 2000 S and it literally is just a points replacement.
Dynatek?
@@daygersden Yes kind of tech I think that's the name I've got the 2000 I in my '98 Softail. But I bought just a small points replacement unit there's a fella that drag races and he uses them in all of his drag racing bikes. It's just an electronic points replacement and that's I guess where it has the s on the end
@MoeLarrycurly1 I just replaced the ignition modules on the sportster with a dynatek 2000i.
@@daygersden they have a wide array I like the well if you have the harness and the module plugs into the harness under the seat or wherever. I was a little leery of the ones that actually are in the nose cone gets pretty hot in there but I guess they're protected well enough
@MoeLarrycurly1 I'll look more into that..
Talk about shifting my 1970 if you don't give it a good enough tap to go from first to second it drops into neutral. It's the easiest going into neutral bike I've ever had
I could never get mine into neutral with the engine running only when off. Now the neutral light stays on all the time. That started happening right after I washed it.
@@daygersden see never wash lol...
Ya, must have shorted out.
All the parts you take off of this bike you can build another one lol
Lol
Got them butt connectors on my wiring also.. That's why I bought a couple of FX wiring whole harnesses and at least it's original wiring and I think I can use sections of it for my bike
I have to order the rear and maintenance harness. The front hand controls I already replaced.
@@daygersden 👍🏼
@@daygersden speaking about controls the 1980 that had the really modern hand controls on I went back to what would be on it in 1980 Well the way the lever actually pulls on the clutch cable there's not as much force and because the cable is not working an arm on top of the transmission. It is like today it's working a small fork inside the cover of the transmission on the side The clutch is well it's harder to pull but it's just not as I think it's tougher on the whole cable and lever etc. So even though it's a 1980 I'm going to hunt for 1982 to 1995. Clutch hand control because by then the cable went directly to the side of the transmission so it actually should work much better I didn't think of that when I put it back to original but the transmission itself is like a Evo transmission. It's dispute case with some 5-speed guts into it might be Evo might be Andrews I don't know. So now I have to hunt for a front brake master cylinder of that era with the big clunky controls I got everything, but a 9/16 master cylinder I've got the 11/16 but thats for twin caliper brake setup. That might be too much leverage for one caliper cuz the piston is larger..
@MoeLarrycurly1 put a mouse trap on it. Lol
@@daygersden I think that would even more complicated. I've only had to fiddle with one of those one time for someone and I did get it working good for him how I did it I don't know lol. I was amazed myself that I got it to work that was like 25 years ago
Paint great ...
Lucky I don't to paint, but I might add red and white pinstripes.
@@daygersden I have a friend that is really good at pinstriping. He's not real reliable but thank goodness he can make a good living at a pinstriping. Whenever we have the cavalcade of wheels he's usually their pinstriping automobiles
😁🏍️👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Beautiful machine. Just be very careful with these small motor shops. It's really a lot of work. Good luck it will be worth it.
The shop that's doing the top end looks pretty good. The shop that's doing the lower is a chopper shop that's known world wide.
Yeah that mag polish is good mothers is the best by far
Ya lots of good aluminum polish out there.
Wenol metal polish...
@@Guernseyboy I had some of that around here someplace.
I always like never dull
@@MoeLarrycurly1 we used to use that on brass on navy ships. Containers were about 10x the size you get in auto parts stores.. Lol
@@daygersden and that stuff seemed to last forever
It does, just need to keep the container closed..
I found that the Bendix carburetor doesn't seem to hold a lot of gas. I don't know and I don't remember what carburetor you're running but I usually shut my gas off as I'm on my street. And it runs out pretty quickly before I get home..
I've got and S&S super e. I knew I was low, I just didn't turn to reserve all the way..lol..didnt want to gas up as I would only have to drain the the tanks now that it's on the lift.. I've got the original bendix but I might look for and SU carb.
@@daygersden I had one of those years ago when I had an S&S and at that time they didn't have an accelerator pump and I couldn't get used to the roll on of the throttle. I watch Pacific Mike he just went from an SU carburetor which he liked and they're like a basic CV carburetor. I had pulled mine I think off of an old triumph car. Of course I figured I could just put it on and everything would be fine. But it was okay. But Pacific Mike went from an SU to a mikuni now he seems so like the mikuni
@MoeLarrycurly1 I've been got a makuni on the deluxe and it's great.
🏍️👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can you tell me where you are getting your springer replacement parts from? Great video's on the springer front forks
I didn't replace any parts except riser bushings just cleaned and torqued to specs. Lower rockers were extremely loose. And most likely contributed to the wobble problem.
@@daygersden thanks again
@@Johnmast17 try low brow customs or tc bros for springer parts. dennis kirk or jp cycles might have some too. you can also search google for " antique motorcycle parts " some of the older shops still carry stuff
I always like just a plain windshield if I have to have a windshield. But I would much rather not love the windshield unless it gets really really cold
Ya, I'm trying to find a new windshield with a blue lower. They have them but can't seem to find one for the FLH. I tried several years ago with no windshield, bothers my neck too much.
@@daygersden yeah as I've gotten older I don't have the strength they used to up to 55 it's not bad but after 55 or for longer rides a windshield's real plus. I sold one a year or two ago and thought I'd never need it cuz I wouldn't have that style amount and low and behold yes I could use it now and can I find one on eBay for the price I sold it no that never happens. I do have one windshield and I can move it back and forth in the two different bikes if I need to. And the 70 came with a full fairing and the windshield that pops up above the fairing and it's kind of quick mount I mean it's you undo the two lower bolts on the cowl or the headlight in the cell and it pops in below the bolts but you have to take out the upper two and then that bolts through there so it's kind of a quick disconnect I don't remember that being on my 75 but that was quite some time ago
@MoeLarrycurly1 the fairing and windshield on mine is just four bolts. Problem is the spotlights mount also uses those same lower bolts and it's kind of a pain to get everything lined up. Wish they would make a quick disconnect like the softail have.
@@daygersden Well I don't know but mine like I said you only have to loosen up the lower bolts and take out the top ones to put the fairing/windshield on maybe that was something special I don't know Well maybe it was aftermarket that I don't know either yeah the and you always have to be careful about those fine threads cuz they're not very deep in the first thing I do when I get a bike like that or even a Softail. Is make sure I spray down those four bolts and then gently take them out cuz I've had them break off in there and then that's no fun..
I think I'll do a compression test on a 1970 I did it when I first bought it and it was like really weird like 140 on the front 90 on the back but that's like soon as I brought it home and had been setting for well I rode it home . but it sitting been setting for out in a how long in a barn down by the lake
I haven't done a compression test on the 76, seems to run fine. That 90 on the back is a little weird. Dump son oil down the cylinder if the compression comes up it's ring time.
@@daygersden yeah I was going to do that I was doing so much stuff when I got this bike I mean when I get something I'm all over it. I barely finished one thing and I'm starting something else but yeah I think I'll do that now is check the compression I ran to the gas station a while back and earlier this morning and put a little gas in it I still don't have plates on it but the cops in town here pretty but I mean they know me at least the older ones. So they kind of let me slide not having a plate on
@MoeLarrycurly1 luckily I have break between work on the property and work on the bikes. Have to get outside stuff done before winter hits.
@@daygersden Well I guess the tomatoes are starting to turn red here and we're getting a lot of them. My wife's been digging the potatoes out of my potato garden for potato salad lately. Think we'll build a bigger greenhouse next year that one that the squirrels and the Chipmunks can't get into...
We gave up most of the garden this year. We have tons of rabbits that get into everything. I know the wife got some tomatoes already but not sure what else she has out there. We've seen 5 raccoons hanging around on a trail camera I have set up. But it's really just the rabbits that are feasting.
Those cameras sure are neat
ya I dont use it alot , but it does come in handy
Bike storage? This the best riding season

It's been in the 60's here and raining the last few days. Kinda nice after the 80's-90's and high humidity we've had.

I had a stock 1957 Panhead it was black with a pepper red panel on the tank. Last year rigid frame. Keep the rubber side down!
Nice, biggest regret was getting rid of that 65.
What You meant to say was 13ft long 9ft wide and 6ft tall
@@GuardianAngel.. don’t remember what I said video is over a year old and I’m not revisiting it.
I just got one. It looks like the one on the left #70604. But on line it shows the one on the right. A little disappointed how the jack kind of rattles around, so I put tension on the springs. The 20t press next to it in the store looked just like the one on the right but is bigger. I mainly bought it to replace the ball joints on my classic beetle. I have a regular ball joint press tool, but didn't think it would work to well on this job. But since I am a member I did get it for $34 off!
Some time their stuff is deceiving, have to make you check the SKU number and not the picture on the box.
Mild winters ..for many years here n Indiana
Same here in mass, not much snow but kinda cold, supposed to be rain above normal but cold below. Have to wait and see.
Great color shovel ...👍👍👍👍👍👍
According to harley archive supposed to be vivid blue but I think the 76 color was more a lighter shade of blue than my bike.
This is the main problem when buying stuff from Harbor Freight and China in general and I am talking from a different industry as well. Former company tried sourcing a product out in China, first round was great. Second round, garbage. Harbor Freight is much the same. They build good rounds of things and reviews could be based on them vs what you actually got. They try to make things cheaper all the time and skimping on materials is their way. The difference between those presses is insane. Thinner I-beam at the top alone.
Ya some stuff from HF is great while other stuff fails. But on their defense pretty much every store is like that nowdays. I try to stay with the stuff from them that has a lifetime guarantee
@@daygersden 100% and I buy a ton of stuff at Harbor Freight. I pretty much went through this same scenario with their hydraulic lift cart.
I too buy alot from HF. That's why I made it a point to check the SKU on the card to make sure you get the right product.
Different part numbers, different presses, not like the numbers where the same
Unless you know how their tags work you might not be aware of two different items .when they have one model on The floor and you grab tag you would think that was the model you were getting. The tags don't have like "SKU" or "model" on the tags . So unless you were aware there was different models on the same tag you wouldn't be The wiser.
Mmmmmm😊
That restaurant is really good.
great vid thanks
Thanks for watching :)
I always wondered which way of the spring went when the coils were differently spaced..👍👋
Interesting why their spaced like that. Guess it doesn't bounce as much when the lower part is more compressed.
