Removing Rust from Old Hedge Trimmer Blades with Evapo-Rust
Просмотров 8959 месяцев назад
These Husqvarna AH200 Hedge Trimmer blades sat unused in a shed for 4-6 years. In this video I will attempt to use Evapo-Rust to remove the rust so I don't have to waste time with wire brushes, steel wool and vinegar baking soda concoctions. I'll be sharpening the blades by hand after. I will also be showing how I remove the blades and disassemble the gearbox then put it all back together again...
Dirty Old Husqvarna Combi Trimmer Restoration

In this video I will be restoring a 10 year old (Maybe older) Husqvarna 324LDx Powerhead to working condition. This machine sat for 4-6 years after my father in-law upgraded to electric. In this video I will be changing the air and fuel filters, changing the spark plug and degreasing the machine. Non of this stuff is rocket science but If I can get this thing back to work I will save some money...
Good video.
Are battery tools overtaking traditional gas tools?
Use brush run it in hot water just blades and detergent then lube white penetrant we 40 don’t cut it
I have super clean and other products. I find the white lube just sits on the blades and it’s too expensive
nice content sir, gotta love someone using a file nowadays, hard to see!
Thank you
Lovely work. Job well done 👍
Thank you!!
Satisfying
Loving the Husqvarna battery tools.
I noticed you had a Stihl battery blower. Do you prefer Husqvarna trimmers over Stihl on battery?
Hey, it’s actually a gas Stihl blower. The low end pro grade unit. Ive used them for years and I just don’t think the battery blowers are up to par yet. I would rather spend 250$ on a gas blower and have more money for battery trimmers, saws, batteries etc.
Great video mate. Best hedgers on the market for sure!
Why do not use 520iht4 tool?
I only use that for fine work. This hedges was thicker cutting. The battery tools aren’t quite powerful enough to be honest
It's been raining 🌧 for 3 weeks here in Scotland so we just have to keep going.
I moved here from Vancouver,BC (temperate rainforest). I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BETTER
Very informative. It has to be done but always put it off.
I’ve since bought a dremel. It’s quick and more accurate than a grinder but the stones wear unevenly and they can’t make really good edge. Nothing better than a flat file IMO. These blades were rusted and seized when I got them. They were sharp for 2 months. Thanks for stopping by
Not sure if anyone’s already mentioned it but lithium batteries, I read don’t let em run down to the last drop. It can significantly shorten the life span of the battery. Thanks for the video. From a fellow British hedge trimming professional, it’s cool to see an American (I think?) hedge trimmer in Australia 😂
I’m from Canada. They say I’m slow ehhh. 😂 loving it down under. Battery update: that bli 500 is awesome. Trimmed all day yesterday (lighter job than this) and used 1 bar. I heard the same about those lithium batts too. Thank you
@@adelaidehillshedges oh man my bad! 😂 wow that's epic to go all day on one battery! My Stihl AP300S last half a day, which is fine for me looking forward to your next video, cheers
The specially formulated hedge trimming drink..... now, that is what I was missing all this time. I ran to the store and bought 24 of them, and I feel like an expert (laughs aside, don't drink and hedge, you may end up hedging your last name)
Patented formula!!! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for excellent review. Having purchased the same trimmer I'd recommend fitting the tip protector, can save accidental damage when operating next to walls and fencing.
My smaller one has that- it’s great. I didn’t get one with the purchase
Is that the Husqvarna 525iHE4 if so what’s it like please
I see you use a tripod ladder as well, I use them as well and I am happy to use it. Fun to watch.
Thank you. These ladders are the best. I can’t trim without a good tripod ladder.
Good job that was nice trimming!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing. I have the Husqvarna battery weed wacker, handheld blower, top-handle chainsaw and rear-handle chainsaw with the BLI 200 and 300 batteries. The battery stuff feels like a toy regarding weight but works like a heavy-duty tool. I have no regrets whatsoever. I want to get that model for cutting perennials on the ground. I think it would work better than the short-handled one. I'm curious of your opinion.
This is the telescoping trimmer so probably not suitable for low work. It’s quite heavy too but for ladder work and tall stuff it’s king. I just bought the new model too handle saw. It’s seriously the best
❤🌧
I packed it in after this and it was sunny by the time I got home. Such is life.. When do you pack it in?
Nice ladder! What make is it?
I ordered this ladder from Bridge Aluminum in Murray Bridge, SA. It is an orchard ladder with rubber feet instead of the pointed feet. Its a bit on the heavy side to be honest but its so sold. Worth every penny.
What is that plant called?
Melaleuca
The tarp on the aggi’s is genius!
That tarp is employee of the months, 2 months running. It is an heirloom.
Great video
Thank you.
I forgot my brand new rain jacket. Fortunately there were short, scattered showers. Would you rather work in rain or 30 degree heat?
My toxic trait is that i could do this 😅
Nothing toxic about hedge trimming. Get out there and do it. Good fitness and vitamin d and fresh air if you’re using electric. This one was easy, no ladder.
@@adelaidehillshedges not much vitamin d in the uk mate 😀😀
@@davegill7614 I moved to Aus from Vancouver. Rain 7 months of the year. No fun. Take care man
Great job. Looks fantastic.
Thanks. If this horse could trim instead of race I’d be rich! New video coming this week
Nice horse👍
The horse is the star here.
Enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks. Before you grab a Dremel, have a look at the battery options ? I have a Dremel and very rarely get it out anymore. I have purchased the $99 Ryobi battery (in stock at Bunnings Mount Barker) just the most basic one they have, and I use it a heap! I always find myself going for the battery one before the plug in one for the pure convenience. I think it may be a good option for you, as you can take it on site also ? Just a thought, but you do you, as they say. I'm a general builder by trade, but do a heap of gardens now, and I just like to have the right tool for the job, no matter the brand etc, and as long as the quality is up to the task, I don't have to go expensive either ?! The cordless rotary tool is certainly worth a look due to its versatility, portability, price, it's warranty, and it's ease of purchasing at bunnings? Thanks again, I did learn something from your videos, I seem to from them all so far ? Keep it up and stay safe
Thanks Liam. I saw that dremel at bunnings. I need to sharpen my bigger trimmer so it might be time to try it.
Awesome job! What are you spraying on your hedger, btw?
Hey, thank you. I use multi lube or wd40 while cutting and then blade cleaner before I put it back in the sheath. WD40 is probably the best imo. I’ve tried all the lithium grease and pricier stuff but it’s not worth the $$.
@@adelaidehillshedges Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yup, WD40 is the bees knees.
Got to love that Husqvarna battery equipment? Don't know what they've done but there's some proper voodoo in those packs !!?? There's nothing else on the market that comes close to them, not even the EGO stuff or Milwaukee gear. So light and small and yet powerful and long running. Fantastic job too, I wish I had your eye and skill. Looks a million dollars, and all done in some pretty hot Adelaide weather !? Good stuff
Hello, I kept the volume low to save your ears. Thanks for watching, Colin
Hi Colin. What's the weight difference like on these electric Husqy's compared to petrol? I used to struggle big time with hedges of that size keeping a Stihl telescopic aloft for long periods to get a levelled top.
Overall the machine is lighter. However, I have noticed that the length of the articulating head is longer than what I'm used to with stihl and that the head weights about as much as the motor so the balance is different. The telescopic units are not for me. You can buy an extension piece for the husky or stihl units. The stihl one is longer and made of carbon fiber. But over all I think the husky units are better made now. I still primarily use a gas unit at work for the power. You'd be best going into a husky shop and swinging one around with a battery TBH.@@dwilliams6346
@@adelaidehillshedges Thank you for that Colin. All the best mate
Another good one Colin thanks. I have never taken apart the knives before, as i have been too scared too, but this gives me confidence enough to give it a go. Cheers. Also do you have a mechanical way of sharpening the knife ? Dremel just for example ? Or do you always take them apart and hand sharpen ?
Thank you Liam! I got your message via the website. Ill respond to that there. Regarding mechanical sharpening, I prefer to use an angle grinder. I will be doing a video about that 100%. I do find its useful to try it with the file as it doesn't remove as much metal. I might do a comparison video about both methods.
Thanks for the video, i enjoyed the tutorial and the way you delivered it. Not too in depth but just what you need to know
No problem. Never a wasted moment in the shed.
Let me know if there is anything in a future video your would like to see or if you have questions about this video, Colin
