I grew up in a cycle of violence too, as did my brother and sister. By their actions they guaranteed I would never be a jw as an adult. I remember the pain of being a jw kid(literally) and my heart goes out to all those who suffered at the hands of these misguided people.

You seem to have a nice mild tone. Hopefully you have had a degree of closure. I find that working on, and dicovering yourself, continues until we die. Some folks never dare to. My situation was very similar to yours except 40 years ago. No support, no internet, no nuthin. I feel as you, a great sense of loss over my childhood and even many years lost in a fog. All one has to do is go back and read the " Food at the Proper Time " offered and propagated by the top men of the Watchtower Corporation (JWorg,) and you'll clearly see that the majority of it was their own lying sins and rebelliousness as false prophets. And they lured and coerced people to their organization through those lies and apostasy to make people into their subservient slaves and workers. You seem to have a lot of resentment towards your parents. I was DFed from the hall, but my parents were only disappointed, but i never felt any lack of love, so i know it was easier for me in that regard. I did have lifelong friends who cut me off completely, though. I always try to remember that they were as brainwashed as i had once used to be, and im sure your parents feel like they are doing what is right towards you. I dont know if narcissism is the right word for people who have been brainwashed by a cult because they feel their choices are limited on how they can treat you. Almost everyone believes they're doing the most moral thing regardless if its unfounded.

@Sid Lamar, here is my crazy assembly story: In the 1970s, a tyrannical and despised District Overseer named Gene Brandt severely chastised a beloved Circuit Overseer named Don Farmer in front of several brothers and sisters backstage at the Arlington Circuit Assembly in Texas. Later, during Brandt’s talk, the stage overseer (my brother-in-law) asked Farmer how he dealt with being humiliated by the District Overseer. Farmer said he had ways of getting even, and took from his pocket a dog whistle. While virtually silent to human ears, a dog whistle creates the most awful sonic feedback in a public address system. At strategic moments during Brandt’s talk, Farmer would blow the dog whistle backstage, the sonic feedback completely disrupting the pace of Brandt’s delivery. This story is legendary to this day throughout Texas, and the dog whistle was framed and hung for years on the wall of the office of the Arlington Assembly Hall. This is a true story. The stage overseer who tells this story to this day was my brother-in-law.

I have a lot of assembly stories. Here’s one: I was a young, naive, good looking Puerto Rican brother and these 2 girls I talked to at work agreed to come to an assembly with me. They lived far away so we allowed them to sleep over our house because they’d be going to the assembly with us. Well, they were wearing booty cutter shorts when they showed up to the house and asked if we had the playboy channel. My mom was livid and made them sleep in the basement on a couple of beds instead of in the rest of the house. The next day me and a friend showed up at the assembly with these two girls. They drove. I though everyone would be happy because I brought 2 worldly people. Nope. Got a ton of bad looks. What made it worse when at some point, they went to the bathroom and apparently were smokers and tried to smoke there. They were told they couldn’t so they left the assembly and were gone the whole time. We didn’t know any of this happened so my friend and I wandered the halls looking for these girls that weren’t there. Finally we returned to our seats. At the end, we walked out of the large doors and they pulled up right in front where nobody is supposed to drive or park saying “Let’s go boys!” Since we rode with them, we jumped in the back of the open pink jeep and the one girl took her hat off and put it on my head and kissed me on the cheek leaving a lipstick mark I didn’t see until an hour later. as they sped away, most of my friends from the hall stared at us with with jaws gaping open in shock. I too was in shock actually…I’ll stop there.

I think there are a lot of sexual minded and even perverts in there. Once they find out you are not Hypoctrite and you won’t join in, you will be shunned and alone. And that is how they threaten you too. If you ain’t a hypocrite they don’t want to be your friend cuz they’re all hypocrites
