Recently got the OP-XY and I bloody love it! The sequencer is nearly as awesome as Elektron, but the thing is tiny. Was the sample already chopped from the MPC or what did you do on the XY to chop it?
The MPC was not involved. The full sample was recorded into the XY and placed on about 6 keys. I then changed the start & end points on each key. The waveform shows each key playing its chop. You can adjust the start points on the fly to tweak it or change it up completely.

Can you record a sample in time while the beat is still playing in the loop?
@@how2blowup yeah you can sample while the beats playing, but its not like a live looper. You’ll still have to place your sample on the sequencer after it’s recorded. The sampler automatically gets rid of silence at the start of a sample, so if you were playing along something that comes in late you’d just have to drop it in the right place. You can nudge each step left and right as it’s playing to fine tune the timing. You can also resample whatever the xy is playing.

Are mute groups a thing on the OP-XY?

Yeah, each key can be individually set to one shot, hold, loop or cut off. These are set to cut off. So it is a mute group, but it’s just one group per track, which is enough for me.
is this easy to set up? i saw a video where someone did this and had to load up the sample for every step and then adjust the start point for every sample. is that how you did it? thanks!
Yeah, it’s easy enough. You go along the keys and select the sample each time ( 2 knob twists, 2 seconds), then adjust each one with 2 knobs to set start and end points. I made 6 chops here in about a minute. Not a chore, enjoyed the process! The good thing is every chop is independent, so if you adjust the start of one it doesn’t affect the end of the one before it etc…
