Hey everybody my name is Damien! Just a normal SoCal railfan producing HD content of trains in many places across Southern California!
The Sound of Dynamic Brakes and Notch 8 in Cajon Pass
Today, I wanted to post a video of a few trains that I caught in Cajon Pass, in the spot known as Blue Cut, to be specific. In this spot, and for most of the Cajon Pass, you can hear the sound of dynamic brakes, as well as the grumble of notch 8 as trains traverse the grade, either uphill or downhill. Dynamic brakes are used for downhill, and notch 8 is used for uphill climbs, each having their unique sound, as can be heard in this video.
Included in this video are your typical BNSF intermodal trains, as well as a UP manifest making it's way down the hill on the Palmdale Cutoff in a meet with a BNSF train.

On my recent trip I saw an intermodal making it's way right through the city of Las Vegas. I decided to stop and it only took about 5 minutes for it to pass me. Not nearly as impressive as it would be without the diesel holding it's hand ... Still impressive, but just sayn..
The diesel is needed whether we like it or not, still an awesome train to watch. Also, the diesel being the Western Pacific Heritage Unit was a nice touch imo
The diesel isn’t needed they just want it for dynamic braking to reduce the use of expensive brake shoes
@@Strasburg_Railfaner611I knew that, feel like that still falls under needing the engine. But either way, glad I was able to see it regardless of having diesel power or not

My Favirote nose of F59PHI
BNSF 4581 leads X-NHFSWR (ex G-LUBBSL)
10:33 7706!! That’s my reason for 7796 in my name, my channel mascot
455 sounds terrible here in my opinion. But it got overhauled in 2015 and got an awesome raised letter K5LA horn and a GW e bell. But 455 went fouled again and has been sold to Metra, now 78. From what I know, Metra 78, originally Amtrak 455 has not actually ran a single passenger run on Metra and has been in storage since it arrived in Chicago and ever since Metra repainted it. But nice catch with 455, 456, and 460, 3 F59s on one train.
F59PHI 455, my #1 favorite Pacific Surfliner F59PHI in my opinion. But 455 started to foul up around this time though.
456 before overhaul. It became back with a new horn and Graham White e bell in 2015. While I like the GW e bells so much better than the EMD steel bells the F59PHI's had, but the new horn, even though it sounded good was nowhere as good as its horn before overhaul in my opinion, and 456 would unfortunately become foulded, but luckily Metra fixed 456's horn and was renumbered to Metra 79.
Nice, I love 456's Narrow Font K5LA horn, it is nice that 90230 is k on the set.

good video and catches of this hertige unit on the surfliner with other train as well and 184 on the troop train surfliner its seems like naw a days this scheme is gone off of 184 because I ges Amtrak thought something was wrong With the IV scheme or it stated to not look right but the scheme has ben saved naw on 164 p42 because they turned that engine into a hertige unit to be 184 replament

I love 456 as well, it has an spectacular K5LA in my opinion. 456 is now Metra 79 and it still sounds good imo.
