Peeter Joot's math and physics play

I am a software developer and math and physics enthusiast.
I have about 25 years software development experience. I have been working at LzLabs since 2016, where I am responsible for COBOL and PL/I compiler runtime development and compiler integration, and legacy C370 runtime implementation.
Before LzLabs, I worked for IBM for close to 20 years, working on the lowest level guts of DB2 LUW. I spend too much of my free time, when I can find it, enjoying recreational mathematics, physics and engineering studies.
The focus of this channel is math and physics. I've now posted introductory videos on geometric algebra, and Green's functions.

Walnut box, 12"x9"x3", first coat of finish on the tray, lid in progress.

Walls are about 1cm thick, and base is about 5mm. Will do 2-3 more coats of finish (poly/turp/oil), then wax. Have to figure out the final shape that I want for the lid and finish that too. Am annoyed that I managed to distort the square of the box when I did the glue up. This makes the lid off square relative to the box by about 1mm on the opposite corners. I'll plane it to match the tray, but...

First ever box with mitered corners, now finished with four coats of turpentine/polyurethane/danish oil mix (1/3 each.) I made a number of mistakes, but patched them and the end result looks good. Mistakes include: * Accidentally gouged a large chunk of the interior out of one of the sides. The piece got away from me when I was cutting the rabbit for the base, and torqued itself into the tables...

I just finished making a couple dovetail router boxes. One is for Karl's high school guidance councillor, as Sofia would like to give her something before the end of the year for all her help. Walnut, magnet latched knife sheath.

My daughter has a beautiful and very sharp knife, for which the sheath has been lost. Here is a wooden sheath for the knife. I've used little 5mm magnets to latch it shut. The wood was an offcut from a very interesting and chaotic cut of wood, with grain going on all directions. My shed, a tiny little 8x10 space with a porch, is also my workshop, with all my woodworking and other tools packed into it. After months of chaos, I pulled it all apart, partially insulated it, and put everything back together. Everything now has a place, and it's no longer complete and utter chaos. Time to build some fun stuff!
