Is it me, or is that piano horribly out of tune?
You’re totally right! But, it was on purpose :-) The composer called for a complete retuning of the piano. Here’s a sampling from the C4 octave: **Pitch Frequency for C4 octave:** C4 256.67 Hz C#4 266.17 Hz D4 293.33 Hz D#4 299.44 Hz E4 310.53 Hz F4 342.22 Hz F#4 349.35 Hz G4 391.11 Hz G#4 399.26 A4 440 Hz A#4 456.3 Hz B4 465.8 Hz

Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
piacevolissimo 😇
Grazie mille!
Fantastic! And I love the video : )
Thank you, Laudon!
Gorgeous interpretation not just on the part of singer but also accompanist. That final chord was utterly breathtaking and the reservation demonstrated throughout the performance cannot be overlooked. Bravo
Thank you so much for listening, and for such a generous comment. You made my day!
This masterpiece is pure genius 👍
Agreed :-)

NOT CREATED FOR PIANO - however good a player one may be!
Thanks for commenting, @abinam2255! While the original “Concierto de Aranjuez” is for guitar and orchestra, and while there can never be a piano transcription that captures the richness and depth of that original, no matter how much the pianist might endeavor to capture some of those colors, this particular transcription of the “Adagio” movement, was, in fact, created by Maestro Rodrigo himself explicitly for the piano. He also made versions of the “Adagio” for voice and piano, voice and guitar, and guitar solo. I am thankful for his transcriptions, and particularly this version that he created for piano, so that I may have the privilege of sharing this music--some of my favorite music of all time-with audiences from my place at the piano, since I could never perform it on the guitar! Another beauty of transcriptions is that it allows for live performance of a work in honor of an original work that might require significantly more performing forces (orchestra, for example) in its original version. Thank you for listening, and for commenting!
Beautiful voice and piano playing! Where did both of you study?
Thank you, @KrisR! David studied at Stephen F. Austin University and Ohio State University. I studied with Tamás Ungár at Texas Christian University, did a Master of Spanish Music degree in Barcelona as a Fulbright scholar studying with Maria Teresa Monteys and Alicia de Larrocha, then did an MM and a DMA at the Eastman School of Music studying with Douglas Humpherys.
That’s amazing! The hard work has clearly paid off!
@@KirisR thank you 🙂
Thank you for listing this.
Thank you for listening!
Very beautiful with a sublime ending!
Thank you for listening! It's some of my very favorite music by one of my favorite composers!
Best version ever! Maybe you adlibbed the ending? My arrangement is very close to this has the French lyrics...so difficult sometimes to find the original as intended by composer for piano. Thanks so much for this lovely lovely rendition.
Thank you so much! The version in the recording is as per Rodrigo’s score, which may be found here: eshop.joaquin-rodrigo.com/en/product/aranjuez-ma-pensee-piano-2/
