My name is Alan, the aim of this channel is to encourage others to enjoy the waterways as they are places for exercise, inspiration and just great fun. I give useful tips and insights into how to restore a Cabin Cruiser, what types of materials to use, how to get the outboard engine serviced, how to rewire, install new batteries, gas equipment, a fridge, a shower unit, windows and restoring the original gel coat. I share with you some of the journeys that I have made and the issues for solo boaters. As well as the technical stuff there is also loads of pictorial information about routes which is presented in a colourful and imaginative way through music, art and poetry. So why not subscribe to my channel and enjoy the journey of discovery with me. I have separate playlists where I have made visits to boat related places to add to the whole experience and one of kayaking.

Hello Alan, Just a note to say how much I enjoyed this episode of your vblog. Life affirming is what it is. Our yoghurt pot journey is just beginning. We are purchasing a Viking 26' centre cockpit (in rough condition). So, we will be glued to your channel.
Thank you very much. Sounds exciting a Viking 26 a lot more room. I hope you really enjoy it. Alan
Hi Alan & Steve , I hope you are both well, just watched this vlog as I do all of them, have to say this is one of the best you have done, loved the bit of you going up the Soar with the lovely song playing, (summer love) I need to get the same work done to my boat. Engine service and anti fouling, I am moored at Redhill Marina and would be very interested in the cost where you went, my Engine is a 15hp Suzuki and boat is 20ft so very similar to the Swamp Duck. Please keep the vlogs coming.
Hi Rachel thanks for your encouraging comment. The cost for the anti fouling which included taking the boat out of the water and yard space etc was £600, the cost of an engine service varies according to the service cycle. Last year it required just a simple service which cost £59 wheras this year was more of a major service over two days so more bits required and cost £98. in total for all the jobs I paid £838. I had the anti fouling done about three years ago at Sileby Mill and that cost £500 then but only had two coats and no primer. I would recommend Harris and Sons as they have forgotten more about outboards than most people know about them. Alan
@@TheBoatingAdventure Thank you for letting me know, that sounds a reasonable price and I will be getting intouch with them for a quote 😀
Hi Alan Glad to see you on your boat again going to places we like too. Going up the trent and mersey to fradley then on to great haywood. We did Loughborough. Saw radcliffe lock with all the equipment they need. Enjoying your videos. 😊 18.48
@@PennyJohnson-km1fh Hi gonna be back on it next week too and looks like the weather might be ok. Happy boating.
Hi, I'm new to your channel. Really like your videos. I'm intrigued at the reference to the Lisbon House? Could you clarify...are you in the UK? Cheers 🍷🍷
Hi yes I’m in the UK. I live in Lisbon House which had strong ties with Lisbon and Portugal going back 50 years.
Thank you it’s a great finishing touch.
Nice to see the Relcraft logo on show! Lovely job.
A Dandy was my first boat in 1990, I now CC on my 56ft narrowboat
@@talesfromthetiller You still see a lot of them around in various states of repair. I love the way that no space was wasted.
How are you getting on with the Tohatsu? I've have a 20 hp on my fishing boat and have been really pleased with it. Very economic.
I have been very very pleased with it, as you say it is very economical and has meant that we can go much further without worrying about the supply of petrol. It goes for its service next week so it will be interesting to see how many hours it has recorded since the first service. cheers Alan
@@TheBoatingAdventure I do my own maintenance. Mine gets a harder life out on the sea.
I thoroughly enjoyed the train. It was a very enjoyable weekend. I hope you were enjoying yourselves too. Alan
Hi Alan Hope you enjoyed your train journey and the scenery. See you back on board.! 13.10
It was a longish day took about 7 hours that day. Some of the Oxford canal is very remote.
Hi Alan The oxford canal looks lovely, wow all those locks, how long did it take you.? 15.35 Sun.
Hi Alan Your trip on the Derwent looks great. I used to sing in a choir but not as grand as that. We have just come back from the river Soar now the lock is fixed. 😊 18.00
@@PennyJohnson-km1fh Thank you it was a lovely trip. We are in Banbury doing the Oxford canal which is so beautiful. Loads of gorgeous lock cottages. Glad that lock is fixed as we need to use it in a few weeks time. Take care. Alan
Alan , good video sir, and definitely something I’ll need to think about soon, I like the idea of sending the old as a template and doing some of the work yourself as it will save money and of course give me some diy content for me to show so thanks… Send us some shots of your boat I’d love to put her on the channel at the end dear boy 😎👍
@@philmurphy3549 Thank you. I’ll send you some up to date shots. Currently out on the cut and on our way to see a fine lady upon a white horse ….Alan
@@TheBoatingAdventure , sounds great, being on the cut is a pipe dream for now, enjoy….. And yes send in those pictures to the email address on the channel together with a bit of history on how long you’ve had her etc Alan Regards and great boating 😎
Looks like a great adventure and awesome dog! We are getting ready to start our own adventure with our pups so we love watching other boaters with dogs. Keep posting!!
Thanks for commenting. Sandy was a street dog rescued from Sarajevo so he has come on leaps and bounds as he was extremely nervous when we first got him. Enjoy your adventures. Alan
Hi Alan It looks like Sandy is having a pawsome time! A real boating dog. 19.23 PJ
Hi I think he is loving being out and about on the boat. Alan
ENJOYABLE VIDEO, ENOY THE CUT MATE,

Definitely, I'm so looking forward to be traveling our beautiful canal system very soon. Looking to. Purshase my first liveaboad a historic Narrowboat I love the history and I'm looking for a historic narrowboat with a boats ans cabin. Cannot wait. Lee
Hi Alan It looks like you have been very busy getting your boat ready for the safety check. Looked very nice your trip out. We are at Loughborough near the basin where we had a chat with you. See you soon. 😊 19.30
@@PennyJohnson-km1fh Hi there, good to hear from you. I shall be back on the Loughborough route in the next few weeks as I’m off to get the boat out of the water and re anti fouled at Syston. The BSS is on Wednesday I think I’m ready now! See you 😊 Alan
There's two very special and rather marvellous days in boat ownership. The day you buy it and the day you sell it. Boom, boom!
@@BillSaltbush Aye it’s not the cheapest of hobbies. I see a lot of abandoned boats around that have not been looked after for years which is a great shame but understandable considering the costs involved. They need a lot of time spent on them to maintain them.

Yes boating is definitely not a cheap hobby. but I do enjoy it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Alan

That was a great day out. The weather was amazing, which was great considering all the rain we’d had in recent months. Goes to prove that it doesn’t always rain in Scotland 😊
Yes it was

Hi Alan. Love your channel. Could you please tell me the make of your cooking stove? It looks just the sort of thing i'm looking for. Thanks in advance. Duncan.
Hi made by Outdoor Revolution.com bought it from Amazon.
Good afternoon. 😊
I would love to live in a narrowboat, looking for a unique way of living and always loved boats, as a gardener I do wonder how I will be able to live on a boat and keep the bills paid. I am all up for challenges because you end up learning something new so even learning how to take care of a boat with more responsibilities than a house will keep me "entertained" while I know I will hate some days but love the knowledge that will come. I know roughly where I would go so I could visit family in wales and England so I got that thought about, its a start! lol
Thanks for subscribing and commenting. I’m sure as a gardener you have many transferable skills and will be very practical which you need to be when boating.
Yes , I’ve found that screwing directly into the grp, they do work free very quickly as I’ve found with my navigation lights , and she’s firmly on hard ground in the warehouse 🤷♂️. I’ll be on the water one day 🤞 Good video 👍
I’m going to bolt it on but have bought some sound dampening pads to put between first. Thanks for commenting. Alan
@@TheBoatingAdventure your welcome, enjoy your travels dear boy 👌regards phil
Happy retirement to you iv just got there myself and looking forward to getting out on my boat moor.im happy for you to come and have a look round my boat. If you want I'm on the river Witham near conningsby Lincolnshire Mick
Thank you very much for your comment, yes I'm determined to enjoy it and spend every last penny lol . I'd love to come and have a look around your boat and do a video of it if you would be happy to do that, I did a video of a Dandy a while back and the owner and I have become great friends since and are due to meet up over a pint in the next few weeks. The channel email is e1e21c3@gmail.com if you want to send me some private contact details and dates when I could visit. Many thanks Alan.
Very nice
Thanks. Alan
YOOOO
Good morning.
I had a go at remastering this one of my early videos to try and improve it but one day I will revisit with some proper equipment.
Hi from my point of view of the three Sawley is the better option as it is near to my home and has excellent facilities. Aqua vista encourage you to use their marinas around the network by providing 34 free mooring nights which is great for me as I can use Kings Bromley , Newark and Nottingham for free. Shardlow is cheaper but didn’t offer me electricity and the security was very poor as I often found people from the adjacent caravan site wandering amongst the boats. The problem with Sawley and Shardlow are the unpredictability river levels which can scupper your cruising plans sometimes. Hope this helps. Alan.
Hi I’m just at the boat atm I’ll get back to you asap.
Hi, I'm looking to buy a boat and need to find a mooring. I'm looking at Aquavista Sawley and Kings Bromley, also Shardlow. I know you have used all three, Kings Bromley just overnight I think. Which would you recommend and why, thanks?
