Good Enough Garage

Добавлен 17 фев 2018
This is a channel to capture the diverse and interesting projects we end up taking on as a family. This ranges from normal household and automotive maintenance to bigger projects like our 1986 Corvette that we've turned into a gokart or our 1986 MasterCraft Ski Boat that requires constant maintenance. These projects are sometimes fun, sometimes required, sometimes frustrating, but we're always learning and striving to find the balance between quality, time, and money. Our goal with most of these isn't to make them perfect. This isn't a channel of perfectly polished work. Sometimes we pay extra attention to detail, but our goal is "good enough". Good enough to enjoy our life, learn how to do things on our own, and experience the joy of solving problems in creative ways.

1986 Master Craft fuel filter reinstall and walk through
What was it doing that made you think it needed to be fixed? Trying to figure out if this is my problem.
Skiing with a sunset, now that’s a win 🤘
I had one too.loved it. Don't rust out at all. Last long time.
Any update?
Yes!! It worked. It was definitely the clutch.
Video would have been more helpful with a close up of what you were doing.
125$ or 25$?! Looks like an easy 100$ savings.
Ryobi is so not low, it’s freaking amazing! Diesel Mechanic other battery tools couldn’t do the job, as my coworker to borrow his 1/2 impact wrench drill and that thing is a beast! Ever since then sold my gear for Ryobi Green Team!
Nice!!
Hello guy, I am undecided between the salomon xaforces mid gtx and salomon quest 4d 3forces mid model. I will not walk very long distances, but I will still walk and the transitions in the camp also make the parachute, wrist support is also important for me, quest force patterns and I can be very comfortable or after a soft sports shoes. It seemed a little harsh, the outdoor models were more comfortable, and now which one do you recommend for durability with the characteristics and features of xaforce mid? Should I endure the slightly harder and rougher quest model? I would be very happy if you could help me. Thank you for the review. It was very good.
I don't know about the quest but the Xa Forces Pro are very durable and the best option that balances support, comfort, and durability.
I have went through about two but work great😊
Thanks bud
You're welcome!
Best thing to do is figure out what kind of fluid your jack needs BEFORE it's old and the tags are worn off. Some will be ok with ATF and others want jack fluid. NEVER use brake fluid in a floor jack!
Yeah, I used specialized hydraulic jack fluid to be safe.
Just out of curiosity, why would brake fluid be bad in a floor jack?
@@MrOnemanop brake fluid will eat regular rubber seals and cause them to fail.
Im a kobalt guy, ive gone down this rabbit hole about brand performance saw your title about ryobi. You're a DeWalt guy from what i understand. Do you have a DeWalt brad nailer that you didnt mention? I apologize if i missed it if you did
No. I have DeWalt, Ryobi, and Ego. DeWalt for "normal" tools I use every day as a DIY homeowner - drill, saw, impact driver, reciprocating saw, oscillating tool, etc. Ryobi for obscure stuff and all the random little tools - nailers, bike pump, Dremel tool, etc. I honestly haven't figured out that split perfectly. I'm probably going to lean more towards Ryobi going forward. Their stuff is just so good for the price. And battery tools in general are very good these days. For automotive stuff, I might pick up Milwaukee 12v tools. But I'm not sure I want to chase around 4 different battery systems. I'm committed to ego for the yard. Best in class by a longshot.
I’d like to know if there’s any way to get older models of Salomon boots, specifically the Quest 4D 3 GTX. I recently saw a brand new pair being sold on a marketplace, which surprised me since I thought they stopped making that model years ago. Does Salomon still produce older models by special order, or are those pairs likely from leftover stock? Thanks in advance like and sub.
No I looked everywhere for the Xa pro 3. The forces edition is the only version left that is essentially the same boot. I don't know the quest line as well but I thought the reviews for the 4 indicated it was as sturdy as the 3
Whoa. I think I bought mine around the same time you did. My sole is slightly coming apart from the upper... Maybe I'll do the same thing. I love Salomon boots, never gotten a blister even when brand new and they go everywhere. Every pair I've owned lasted at least 5 years with probably being worn about 200 days a year.
Definitely submit the warranty claim. It's a little tedious, but they were quick to honor it.
Thanks man. Exact issue here, suspected clutch. Was it the shift actuator or was it the splutch/cam assembly?
It was the actuator. I think I have an update video. Let me see if I can find it.
Here, try this video. I added them all to a playlist - ruclips.net/video/pdKehRSYJfs/видео.html
@ thank you. You’ve gone into depths on this matter that I wish others would have. Thank you. Seeing your video convinced me to buy the shift actuator instead of the splutch. Going to put it in soon and see. I’ve subscribed.
How'd it go?
@@goodenoughgaragefamilyI love washers. Are you willing to make some full cycle video?
I belive this to be a soft start feature, that ramps up slowly, drawing less power & putting less strain on the drive train. My 2016 model ego dose not have the soft start feature, & takes off quicker, & has a faster top speed, whitch I prefer.
It might be. I'm finding now that there's a good bit of lift on the rear wheels when using self-propel. It causes the grass to be different height when my kids use it going up a hill.
Yea buy a new battery they only last three years anyway 😂
I've had them last 10yrs by keeping them on a tender when not driving.
Well, funny story. This one is from a mechanics lean car I got in 2017 that sits all winter and is only driven once a month or so and it's lasted just fine. Going on ten years. It's amazing what a noco charger or a battery minder will do. I occasionally juice this one up for a few days on the maintenance mode of my battery minder and this battery is rock solid. And the post hack holds just even though the battery isn't strapped down and I thrash this kart.
At 15:10 you got to the solution I was going to suggest. Those are micarta handles, which I assume you can sand down but I'm not sure. Maybe you could use a hydraulic press to press those rivets down? One of your friends probably has one you could use.
Yeah. I think the micarta could be sanded but it actually works great to have them a little proud of the surface. And so far holding up to some pretty extreme abuse.
Use some loveless bolts
Ooh. Nice. Never heard of those until now. I'll try them if this ends up failing.
@goodenoughgaragefamily Ive got a video on how to make Loveless bolts on my channel
Checking it out now! Thanks.
Did you use spray paint or a brush to apply the paint?
Spray paint. Simple rattle cans from ace hardware. I'll do an update video soon. It's not perfect but it's holding up great!
please get to the point
Well, that's sort of what the video is all about.
If only we could figure out how to increase the RPM of the motor it would be a far better product.
Yeah. I've sort of come to accept it. I think the new models spin a bit faster and even have the option to use that higher speed all the time. That's what I need/want. More control. No reason to not offer this unless it stresses the batteries too much.
Mine didn't work to long.
Sorry to hear that. I definitely have switched over to Ego for everything. But I have DeWalt power tools for construction work and they've been bullet proof.
Unhook the battery for 10 minutes to reset the door motor.
What was this in reference to? I suspect I've unplugged the motor since doing this. Why does it need to be reset.
I hope you paid that guy well, he looks like a highly trained professional...
If you knew him better you'd think differently.
move the cushions
Harder to remove than you might think. This is "good enough"😎
What about the textured surface?
I go over those areas with the buffer but it doesn't do much and I don't spend a lot of time trying to get that area perfect.
Thank you, great video. Could you please let me know where you purchased your door blend Actuator (and/or) a part number. I'd appreciate very much
This is what I ended up getting. Dorman 604-875 Driver Side Main HVAC Blend Door Actuator Compatible with Select Acura/Honda Models a.co/d/hpChKn3
Been doing that for years and don't bag at all. But I mow with leaves in place, don't rake in piles. Also mow a little faster.
Yes, leaves need to be very dry and have turned brown.
Yeah we normally just mow where they lay but sometimes end up with piles due to kids having fun.
Are the cables for a 2010 odyssey the same length for the 2011? I'm at the junk yard and all I see is the 3rd gen odysseys. There are no 4 gens in the yard.
I wouldn't assume they are the same. I've done this on a 2004 and they were very different.
@@goodenoughgaragefamily thank you for responding.
Update? Did it work?
It did for a while. But it eventually failed. I took the old one out which defaults to all the way cold. I have a new one to install. Takes 2 min.
ribs look great, definitely going to give that meat dust a shot on my next smoked rib. thanks for the tips!
You’re too slow
I don't know. I can run pretty fast. I won my 3rd grade 90 yard dash.
If you get your ribs from Costco, they come with the membrane removed already!
Not a huge fan of Costco at the moment. Not finding anything that's meaningfully cheaper than Aldi and by the time I make 2 of 3 impulse purchases while there I end up spending more than the alternative.
That's fair. We used to go to Aldi a ton, but we haven't been in a while and there's no real good reason. All the meat I've ever gotten at Aldi has been really good.
My grandpa used to own a small engine shop - he'd give 2 👍
Glad to be grandpa approved. It's funny but this is the only remaining gas engine we have for yard stuff and it's also the best briggs I've ever had. No choke, no priming, easy to pull, starts right away. I've done nothing to the motor after I changed the oil and sparkplug after getting it.
So... You have the SuperBurban... What is this boat's name?
Remy. Named after the rat in ratatouille. It has a 454 Chevy big block in it. Also referred to as Rat motors. And this little boat is awesome. It does a little bit of everything and creates a ton of lasting memories. It's like a little unexpected chef that cooks up good times!
My boys need this!
Everyone needs one of these. It's maintenance free fun.
Is that rapid pulsating sound the tires or the motors?
I actually think it's the front wheel wobbling. But I'm not sure. The motor likely isn't powerful enough to make that kind of noise.
Do those large wrenches on the edges stay put even with a hard close of a drawer?
I haven't slammed the drawer but any sort of normal closing has been fine. So far I've never had a wrench move out of its spot.
Here's to Kaizen foam, and the joy that it brings, In my Craftsman toolbox, where harmony sings. From now 'til forever, you'll always be, The perfect fit for a country boy like me
You're stealing the show with your poetic replies. Was this ChatGPT generated?
Very nice but my patience would've been exhausted after about the second wrench. Sounds like a project for after I retire. 😂
I'm not normally a patient person, but after the first few you see here, I was able to modify the technique a bit to move much faster. Probably finished the whole thing in an hour and a sharper knife would have cut that time down even more 😝
hope you clean your new trimmer more then your old ones. might work better
Na. They work great. Grass stains don't really impact their function at all.
Aren't you only supposed to file in one direction and not saw back and forth or does that really not matter?
I think you're correct. A few others have said the same and files are designed to work in one direction.
'Murica
Indeed. Grateful for the freedom to have fun!
"SuperBurban" - love the name. I had a '97 Sierra and loved it except the annual fuel pump replacement. By the end I could take off the bed to access in no time!
So far this one has the same fuel pump in it from around 2008 that I changed with the 42 gal. fuel tank sitting in my lap under the truck. A little harder to remove what's above the fuel pump on the suburbans. ;) That is the only time this vehicle has stranded me. Fuel pump died while on a date. Ended up marrying the date so that worked out well.
When Borat encouraged you, i think the hits started getting better.
Yes. Nothing like some social pressure to amp up the swing rate.
So I just got one of these. Love everything about it but I noticed the stock blade isn’t that good
What do you find that isn't good about it?
I bought an 88 last year with the walkthrough cockpit same as yours. Have done quite a bit over the winter can't wait to try it out in the spring
They are amazing old boats. I've been super impressed with ours. It takes a good bit of work, but they are such simple machines and most of the work is really rewarding.
@@goodenoughgaragefamily how long have you had it?
I made one too, works awesome
Nice 👍
