    Met Rick before and seen Bruce but Rick is a great fella and had time for everyone. Obviously they will never reform but an interview with the 3 at the same time would be amazing, even in separate rooms but imagine that. Somebody should try? Class artists.

    The jam were a band of their time and a great one, but they were boxed in by their style of song and PW needed to move on from that genre and he couldn’t do it in that setup. The style council were completely different and PW couldn’t have done that with Rick and Bruce. At the time it was a shock and a shame it ended but history has shown that Paul made the right decision. Paul is a driven and selfish person, he doesn’t listen to anybody and he is always moving forward ,BUT this is why Paul is relevant today and is looked upon as a genius. Rick and Bruce are good guys, but they had their time in the sun, they should feel themselves lucky to have made that music and been a massive part of it.

    Shame will not have a probably not have a union. From the Jam was amazing set-up. All artist have been infunced by other bands. I was a child of about 10 and the first Jam LP was In The City re-release in 1995 when I was 10. I wrote on the cover Is Skill. The first LP is still one of my fav Jam LPs. I like how raw it was is. It's probably why I got into punk. soul, reggae and ska along with stories in music.

    The one great thing about The Jam splitting when they did was/is that they were/are a fantastic, disciplined band frozen in time....a perfect band.

    • @Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55
      @Two_Seat_Pete_FatA55 6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. Let's be honest, nobody wants to imagine a version of The Jam in the 90s, in their 40s, putting out mediocre music in comparison to their best years, which inevitably happens to even the best of them. Weller had the foresight to understand that's how it goes. Same as The Smiths I suppose. The Beatles too. There might be other reasons those bands ended too, but they also resisted money to resurrect the bands. So I think at least some members of these bands were totally aware of preserving the legacy too.

    It's telling that the edits start on this as Rick starts to really dig into the reasons why he feels the Jam split... 'bad' or no management of their recording career. Sure Polydor dictated their release schedule contractually but if the deal was up - as it was around this time with only one more album on the contract post the Gift (which Dig the New Breed's release essentially completed) then they were in the position to re-negotiate their deal with Polydor or leave and find a new deal with a new perhaps more artist friendly (major) label - Island say... Yes the Jam were a singles band - but their albums sold increasingly well and the industry was changing by 82 and 83 (successful bands taking longer between albums - not touring so much). The inference is that Weller had a few different reasons for leaving. A (sort of) solo deal being one of them.. if that hadn't have been on the table as an option by '82... then maybe he'd have stuck around but i feel there is a certain level of disengenuous on Rick's part for not just 'naming it'. He must know full-well these are the reasons. 1.the pressure of the treadmill 2. creative exhaustion on Weller's part with the Jam 3. wanting to try other things and R & B perhaps not having the 'chops' to realize this vision (this is arguable both ways...) 4. his profile as a singer songwriter giving him the opportuity to leave the band and re-sign to Polydor with a deal more favourable to his creative impulses (less touring). Financially as the main songwriter he was/still is earning more from the songs... that's the nature of the business... Rick fully understands this. A quick glance at say Snap's credits - 29 x tracks - Weller has full writing credits on 25 of the songs - Paul Weller / The Jam on x 1 track - 2 Foxton songs - 1 cover... The ongoing tension between them will stem back to Rick's percieved feelings of mis-management by JW... that's the nub of it.... most successful bands split up because of the writing credits.

      Also, they didn't go down all that well in the US when compared with the Police, the Clash, and then some later UK bands. This continued with Weller's Style Council and then solo. I think the Vapours were pretty much destroyed by the breakup / shutting down of the Jam. However, they actually had got some airplay in the US with Turning Japanese.

    • @timhall3575
      @timhall3575 10 месяцев назад

    • @timhall3575
      @timhall3575 7 месяцев назад

      Well... he kind of already was a 'Pop Star' and if had wanted to be Paul Weller the 'Pop Star' then he would have gone solo rather than forming the Style Council. In doing that he lost one part of his audience (those that never forgave him for splitting the Jam and going in new musial directions) also gained a new one whilst keeping a large % of old Jam fans....so I have to say I don't really agree with whatever it is you tried to say - sorry. @@jamescorlett5272

      No, the Jam didn't give a toss about America, which was a lover of dinosaur rock in check shirts. Except Stray Cats, Tom Petty , Blondie and the Cars, and they had to come to England to break through, apart from Stray Cats all those bands have said people thought they were Brits, Debbie Harry has mentioned it.
