Following the granting of planning permission to extend Hermitage Quarry, a cut and cover tunnel needed to be constructed to link the existing quarry and its processing plant to the new quarry extension. Gallagher Ltd was employed to construct this new cut and cover tunnel on a design and build basis.

Gallagher is the only company still quarrying Kentish Ragstone, the only hard rock available at shallow depth in the South East. Gallagher supplies Kentish Ragstone for new build and restoration projects. This film shows how the rock is produced, from drilling and blasting to sawing, polishing and placing of the stone.

Gallagher is the last company still quarrying Kentish Ragstone, the most widespread building stone used throughout the South East of England. Our experienced team, along with modern bespoke machinery, is able to supply Kentish Ragstone for restoration, conservation and new build projects.

It will, it just takes a lot longer to reach maximum strength. Most concrete is made with way too much water anyways just to get it to flow.
The definitions of each are as follows: If the length is longer than the width, it is a Tunnel. If the length is shorter than the width, it is a bridge.
It doesn't matter if the length is longer than the width or visa versa. If the exit is smaller than the entrance its always considered a funnel.
What was the point in that? A tiny strip of land, shorn of trees, maintained between two huge, ugly holes in the ground.

This is cool material. I have done estimated amount probably 500,000 ton in 3 different states. Only thing is it's boring,very boring. We did a awesome job in tennessee. The asphalt company is Mcmullen paving and it's on RUclips also check it. We even used concrete fan smoothers and dyed the front half of the job black.
I'm just finishing a 30m gabion wall in Chatham it's my own house so I've taken a lot of Pride in it I have another retaining wall to build down the middle of the garden and I'm considering this ragstone as a face. 👍

Am i the only one that thinks thats a bridge and not a tunnel?
You're looking at it wrong.
Its both.
I mean cut and cover usually means removing soil, putting some infrastructure into the ground and the covering it up back to street (or soil) level. So I dont think this is that.

Worked for the Gallagher Group over a number of years, erecting steel work. I can't think of any time when their sites weren't ready for us. If any problem arose it was sorted, before you could say Jack Robinson.
