    The scissor used is a curved, but backwards? Is there any reason for that vs a long straight? This is very helpful, Thank you

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317
      @blackrussianterrierincanad2317 3 месяца назад

      Yes, it makes better shape on the end as you will go round-ish by accident. Head is very delicate and not easy part, with curved scissors and use them backwards on a straight portions helps to not round by accident and at the neck only with this type of scissors you can make tricky shape - from neck to the top of the head , you need to even make MORE CURVE at the beginning, as later your will get the box , but if you will cut from neck to the top head STRAIGHT you will loose the beauty . Try in between of your shows , if needed let me know and I will show the video on a dog who is not showing what is the different between curvy scissors and straight (again, professional groomers can make all of that even with Manicur Schissors 😀). But we all have a full time jobs and this is solid hobby to each of us ❤️

      The most important - socialization from day one, grooming from day 1 - comb, nails with treats and happy voice. A lot of BRT later give no chances to trim nails, groom them, etc. of course, I will recommend you to assign puppy to school 3-4 times a week if possible as at least 3-4 hours a week you will work under certified instructor and follow routine training at least for 2-3 years ❤️

      That rake (from Europe) is very helpful for very matted coat. Sometimes I have to groom BRT with extremely heavy undercoat, and owners struggle to clear the coat but want to keep BRT in a full coat. I use that rake to take apart very tide knots instead of cutting them out

  • @AliceAnnStern
    @AliceAnnStern 5 месяцев назад

    It's much less tedious and much less discomfitting for the dog, if the dog's coat is simply taken down rather than trying to break through and remove mats, which can be quite large and tight on the BRT dog. My dog is currently matted. I intend to take him to a veterinary hospital to be groomed and simultaneously vaccinated. (He will not allow vets to go near him under normal circumstances, but he loves to be groomed. The Chris Christensen products like Ice On Ice are excellent. Also the Coat Handler is another excellent detangler. Keep in mind that a healthy BRT dog's coat grows fast -- around one inch per 3 days. It varies. The head and legs grow slower, esp. the mustache and beard. Usually it takes 5.5 months for the coat to grow back, after it has been taken down -- but the facial hair takes longer. The rear legs may take longer. The tail may take longer. A lot depends on the dog's diet and overall health.

I prefer on a table as I can sit on my chair and slow by slow open all areas and clear the undercoat They look very BLACK after this procedure

    Do you use a conditioner as well?

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317
      @blackrussianterrierincanad2317 5 месяцев назад

      The same as we do , we use conditioner for keeping hair detangled, smooth, easy to comb. Let’s look at the coat first! If your BRT has harsh coat (old type); those puppies most of the cases not matting . I have female with this type of coat. I use conditioner for her legs only as she has very rich hair and in a winter with all that salt I need to protect her hair from drying . Puppies with soft coat (show dogs , most of this days ) require conditioner to support the hair from breaking and matting as soft coat can be easily matted If you gave combined coat I will use in a beard to keep protected layer from water, food and on a kegs from matting In winter I use also puppy plush oil for the legs as well to keep long hair in a better condition In the summertime, I don’t use much conditioner to not make hair too heavy and not to attract more dust to it

    EXCELLENT EXCELLENT video!!! 👏👏Thank you sooooo much for doing this! It is EXACTLY what I was looking for as a pet owner of a (now) 8 month old BRT boy. I love the detail you go into, sharing the links and describing the tools you are using. Also love the "it's only hair, it will grow back" comment. 😊One question... my clipper came with a #10 blade and my guide combs will work with a #10, #15 or #30. What is the difference when using a #10 under combs as opposed to a #30 blade? Thank you again!

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317
      @blackrussianterrierincanad2317 9 месяцев назад

      I prefer blade #30; it is much better clipping with it one more tip: when you follow the clipper direction, the hair grows - it will be longer hair cut. If you use a clipper against the hair growth - it will be short sport cut! It means the same attachment can be used for two different lengths 😊 About “hair will grow,” - my mom says, «Hair is not the legs(!) it can grow 😂- I just skip the “legs” to be polite in case somebody can be hurt by that ❤ I always complained when my mom cut my hair all my childhood about the style she did 😂 on my head

    Great video. Why did you use an eye cleaning solution inside the ear though, as opposed to one for ears? Are eye cleaners just as effective? Thanks

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317
      @blackrussianterrierincanad2317 9 месяцев назад

      I as usually don’t even use any ear cleaning liquids, but I found that eye solution of this specific brand is containing boric acid (dry out effect and very gentle ; chamomile - anti inflammatory ; witch hazel to dehydrate .. Look at the contains elements: VETOQUINOL EYE CARE - COMPOSITION Rose water, witch hazel, sodium borate, boric acid, natural plant extracts (Calendula officinalis, Euphrasia officinalis (eyebright), matriarca recutita (chamomile)), methylene blue, buffered adjuvant (pH = 7.4) If I see some shaking head, I just use ear powder If I see little but wetness I use eye solution of this brand If I see really bad ears I use apple vinegar with water 1:3; pure to the ear - massage and let the dog shake the head (they will shake crazy for couple minutes; every second day that “torture “ and fungus will be killed) The best way to keep ear out of trouble in BRT is to keep them dry - that is why my old BRTs don’t have any ears infection - I always apply the layer of ear powder after swimming, and rainy day Another good tip - if ears is in a Good shape don’t even clean them with any products (no plucking, no cleaning if dogs immune system does work itself) Just my own experience 😉

    What #blade for the body?

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317
      @blackrussianterrierincanad2317 9 месяцев назад

      Neck and butt - #7; ears - #10 . For the body I use scissors but if you have pet BRT , not a show dog you need stainless steel attachments to your clipper (for example this one Wahl Canada Stainless Steel Guides with Caddy, Fits #30 Ultimate & Competition Series Blades, Convenient Storage Stand with lid, for Pets - Model 58247 a.co/d/0YbMyp1) and try different to find your favourite shortness

    I love your channel - your videos are so informative and helpful. One question... do you only do show grooms? I would appreciate if you could post a video on a pet groom with a bit of a shorter coat and with special attention to the head and face. I am just beginning to home groom my 7 month old BRT. Thank you!!

      Thank you! For sure, I have one BRT coming for pet grooming - the owner is not willing to keep show grooming and want so short that they don’t need to do maintenance for long time - I will make a video and will add it to the channel shortly 👍 I will show couple Fast techniques for the BRT owners 😉

    • @blackrussianterrierincanad2317

      Depends where I use it - let's say in a show rings SOFT BUT NOT CRUNCHY (as an example hot dogs in a portions); at home or class - dry liver but not the hard one, outside for training - any as I don’t care if it will drop by accident (crunchy or others type). If your dog is really food motivated you can even use kibbles - let’s say dental kibbles as a treat! On the same time you will treat and work on a teeth cleaning
