Lovely packed episode!
Thank you ☺️
Hi Mel. I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m a new knitter in the US. I love your pattern choices and yarn. Ohh those bunny mittens…have my heart!!
Aw thank you, lovely to hear from you! Yes it is such a beautiful pattern :)
What about baby yarns
Of course, why didn’t I think of that! Thank you :)
So great to hear from you again! :)
Thanks, you too! 😊
The links dont work and youve not spelt ailbionas name correctly.
Hi, thanks for the feedback, I will check the spelling and amend. I didn’t do links because I’m not that clever :)
Hi Mel! I fell in love with that navy blue lace top ❤ you did a great job 🎉
Hi, thanks very much, it’s such a beautiful design isn’t it ☺️
Oh yes, you must go for a picnic to a National Trust big house and get that photo taken of you like in the old pattern, and then send both pics to your aunty. That would be great!
Haha that’s a great idea!
Do helix knitting using differing colours. You dont get a join mark.
Ah thank you, I have never tried that before, I will have to look that up :)
Lovely projects and very inspiring. Really enjoyed watching you and knitting Love Letter Top at the same time. Thank you!
Thank you and oh wow that is a lace top! Gorgeous design 🤩
Oh my goodness you've been busy Mel! Your Scealgra is soooo beautiful 😍 I have been debating casting on a pair of the rabbit mittens and I adore your colour choices! Your friend is going to love them 🤗 That Ada Dress is going to be absolutely epic and I can't wait to follow along. Although I consider myself a process knitter, I am also extremely impatient when it comes to knitting bodies and sleeves 🙈 Thanks for the lovely company while I added length to the sleeves on my Lunenburg 🤣
Hahaha aww thank you Nikki! Yes I know we share the pain of the long stockinette haul haha ! I can see you with the rabbit mittens, what colours are you thinking??
That was so lovely! I’m looking forward to making the Shifty sweater soon. Yours is delightful. Take care!
Thank you very much ☺️
All your knits 😍 The jumper in the dragonscale yarn looks really nice, I think switching from the previous pattern was a good choice! I find that most Andrea Mowry patterns have too small arm circumference for me so I have to take stiches from the body to the arms to balance it out. Last stretch for the half and half wrap! It really is a light weight multifunctionblanket and I did the same thing with the stitch markers at the end to motivate myself.
Haha well I am in good company then, both in arm circumference and psychological warfare when approaching the knits 😉 thank you for your comments !
Love your green sweater. Very pretty.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi Mel, thank you for another jam packed video of inspirational projects. KFO heavy Merino or De Rerum Natura Gilliat are some suggestions for your son's sweater.
Thank you very much, I will look into those! 🙏🏻
Those mittens are gorgeous. My new m.o. is that everyone needs a free hand to scroll on their phones so they only need one mitten.😂😂😂. This was so fun to listen to. Your humor and dry banter really speak to my heart. Can you steam your KFO Marino sweater? Please don’t put it on a hanger. The soft wool doesn’t have a rigid cuticle to resist stretching out.
Hi, ah thanks for your comments ☺️…ooh I will try steaming and roger-roger re the hanger advice, thank you!🙏🏻
Hi Mel, fabulous to see you again. I've been thinking for the last few weeks "Where's Mel?" every now & again... Very much looking forward to watching your latest podcast 😊 since your last upload I've taken the plunge & bought a spinning wheel - I'm absolutely awful at the moment though slowly improving (even if I feel guilty toward the poor corriedale sheep that grew the fleece I'm absolutely butchering while practicing! 😂 )
Hi, ah wow that sounds brilliant and I’m sure you will be improving in no time. I have a little spinning kit from my friend that I need to try out soon, I have heard spinning is as addictive as the knitting 😊
Hi Mel, Great to catch up with you again! Have you tried rolling up your sweaters/jumpers instead of folding them?
Yes but I probably managed to fold and roll 😆 might give it another try, thank you !
Just a comment that I’ve missed your videos and hope you’ll upload again!
Thanks that’s so nice to hear :) I’m uploading one now so that was good timing!
Those Bunny Wish mittens are so adorable!!! I think I may have to knit a pair.
Nice relaxed vlog thankyou, love seeing what other people make while I'm knitting🙂
Thank you, that is so nice to hear ☺️
Frog the cardigan!! Get something you love out of that beautiful yarn.
I’m the opposite with your color/neutral problem! I like wearing colors but somehow ended up with a stash full of grey yarn?! I ended up selling most of it 😂
Haha how did that happen?! There must be a comfortable middle ground somewhere between us! 😆
@@melmade13 I tended to chicken out of colors when buying yarn, and built up too much stash! Now I know to plan ahead well with what actually works with my wardrobe :)
The buttons look great with the blue cardigan, but would they be too heavy?
Yes that’s a good point, they might be 😬🤔
Love the buttons with the blue!
Aw thank you, me too 😉
Love your Kofte. I have the book and I really want to make that dress, but the kofte is up there on the list, too. :)
Thank you, it’s a beautiful book isn’t it 😊
yes ma'am@@melmade13
That yellow top is amazing. Im sad that the yarn is no more on sale. I looooove Yellow.
Thank you, it was a corker! Gutted that shop closed down :(
Enjoy your video and projects. :-)
So nice to see your happiness with all your projects! I like how you make such contrasting projects - the Maud blouse could hardly be more different to the Arches Cardi. Oh, I love that dress with fine stripes - it would really suit you. When I make socks (I'm also slow) once I get ribbing done and onto the stockinette I immediately begin the ribbing for the second one and then work step-wise through the pair. I do the same with sewn vintage garments - once the smaller needles are off the waist rib on say the front- I then employ them to begin the back rib. In this way it feels as if more progress is being made and also I then usually have some rib for podcast watching whilst colourwork/ lace body bits are there for when I can concentrate more. What a time you have both had, hopefully March will be less traumatic.
Thank you, I really like that idea, part of the reason I end up with so many projects on the go at once is from wanting to have both intricate and plain knitting to choose from at any given time- that’s a great solution that only involves one garment 😀
How about a non superwash merino for your husband’s sweater?
That might be the way to go 🤔😊
❤
❤❤❤
Oh my gosh Mel! Your Kofte is BEAUTIFUL! 😍 So many lovely pieces on your needles, as usual. I find it hilarious how similar our tastes are 😂 That's why watching your podcast is so dangerous for me 🙈 Love the Trepassey as well and have it in my faves so can't wait to see your version knit up 🤗 The yarn for my daughter's Carter hoodie is on its way! Happy Making ❤
Ah thank you Nikki! We just both have great taste! 😉😂 Hope your Carter yarn arrives soon…looking forward to your next episode 😊
Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴 Thank you for a lovely podcast episode 😊 What a gorgeous 'kofte' you are knitting. I remember my first steeked kofte, I was nervous about cutting too. If it's any help, here are my tips for steeking: 1) Before sewing, give the kofte a light steam press with an iron where the machine seams will be (use a thick napkin between the knitting and the iron to avoid flattening the knitting too much, it should still be springy) 2) I prefer sewing straight seams (instead of zigzag) as the edge keeps it's shape better (zigzag edges seem to go a bit frilly). 3) For every seamline, sew 2 parallell seams a couple of mm apart, using a smaller stitch length than for ordinary sewing. With two seams, the risk of unravelling is smaller. 4) Make sure that you have a good 'seam allowance' (at least 10mm) next to the cutting line to avoid fraying woolly edges 5) Remember that it's better to sew the SLEEVE steek 'line' too short than too long. If too short, one has the option to adjust the seam line by sewing it a bit longer. But if you sew the seam line too long and then cut the fabric, you cannot undo the cutting. Check this by tacking the sleeve to the body before cutting the sleeve steek. This way you can easily alter the steek length. 6) The sleeves have a plain stocking stitch band at the top. This band covers the raw edges after steeking. You sew the sleeve into the armhole by machine first and then you fold the stocking st band over the raw edge and fasten it by hand sewing with yarn (so it's flexible). Thus, the raw edge is neatly hidden. I hope this wasn't too much detail. Good luck with sewing and steeking. It isn't as 'scary' as it seems. Steeked seams are actually quite robust 👍😊
That is great advice, thank you! I have already cut open the body but will be able to use your advice for the sleeves so thank you! :) I can’t wait to wear it! 🤗
I love it when you pop up in my feed! You are always so cheerful and your project selection is varied and interesting (especially for someone like me who would need to be dragged kicking and screaming to knit a garment in pieces!!!) a question for you regarding the Norwegian kofte…did you consider knitting the sleeves two at a time (ie circular knitting the 2 sleeves together on the same needle, each sleeve separated by a steek)??? I have often steeked colourwork vests, and imagine the colourwork when knitting two at a time steeked sleeves would be easier when sewing up a garment is preferred. Just wondering re your decision making….
Hi, thank you! …I never even knew that was a possibility! I have not tried knitting anything 2 at a time as I think I would get too tangled up with my yarn :) I like the steeking sleeves idea , maybe once I am more comfortable with steeking I will give that a go! Haha I will be one of these people going to insane lengths just to seam! 😂
@@melmade13 🤣🤣🤣
Love your projects. Beautiful and inspiring. Trepasy is a fabulous pattern I finished mine in juniper moon stargazer and absolutely love it. I have Stephenville in my needles. I started it in a single ply and I am not sure if it was a good idea. I would love a Hargreaves knit along. I love so many pattern and would love to knit them.
Thank you, so glad your Trepasey worked out well. I agree, so many gorgeous Kim H patterns out there! ☺️
Fabulous work love it. What yarn would you recommend for skin that is sensitive ?
Thank you very much…I started off with super wash merino, which is usually very smooth, also the merino silk blends, BFL and merino in general are quite soft and kind. Now I am braver I use woolly wool but have bought some roll neck cotton tops I can wear underneath to protect my neck. The wool doesn’t scratch as much as I thought it would 😊
I’m making the daffodil sweater also. I alohave the same issue with the arms circumference with her patterns too. But I know that. So when I start, I consciously make a decision as to whether or not, I want to make that many adjustments in the pattern.
I also find the Marie wallin arms to be quite tight and I have really slim arms for my bust! I also find the looseness in the body doesn’t match the tightness in the arms. I need to adjust it in the future. Funny, we’re probably quite differently sized (I’m 6’2”) but we need to make similar adjustments!
I have the exact same issue, and I’m a completely different body shaped than the two of you
Nikki from Knitting with cat hair recommended you and now I get to binge watch your videos whilst I am recovering from covid. I am also a Mel whose favorite number ever is 13. I have that tree sweater on my list to make. I just love it. Your knitting is stunning.
Ah hello fellow Mel who likes knitting, 13 and Knitting with Cat Hair Podcast 😂🤗 thank you for your kind comments! I hope you feel better soon 😊
I woul stay with original green violet yarn without any other colour added. It is perfect colour combination, and l love it.
Thank you that’s useful to hear! I do love the purple 💜
Another amazing video Mel! 🎬
Thank you!! 😁
Lovely Norwegian sweater! Blocking will for sure solve the rolling at the rib edge issue.
Thank you, I have my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 ☺️
I had the same problem as you with your Cumulus, and I just used another fingering weight in a dark grey. I couldn't hid those colors!
They are beautiful, no sense in trying to hide them :)
Those half and half wraps do take time to knit but you have a lot done already! I use mine all the time. Maybe you could use the knitting for oliver yarn for the sorrell instead of the dragon scale 🤔 the color work cardi is looking good 😊
That’s a thought! Thank you very much 😊
Thanks, I really enjoyed watching this. Your Jamiesons colorwork cardi already looks magnificent!
Thank you ☺️
Your sweater looks gorgeous. Keep doing what you’ve been doing. It’s gorgeous so much depth.
The buttons on your cardigan are perfect because they look like additional bobbles! Perfection :)
Thank you, I may be a Bobble convert now ☺️
I think I may have become a bobble covert too!@@melmade13
the dragon scale yarn does not want to be paired with anything! it looses its identity every time! maybe knit another half and half ….
I agree, thank you! Have swatched it on its own and have decided it’s too beautiful to be stranded with anything 🤗
I’m loving your podcasts so inspirational watching over Christmas with my knitting
Thank you Judith that’s lovely to hear. Hope you’re enjoying your Christmas 🎄
What a lovely podcast I think we like similar knits I’m knitting Nola in Isager and lletlopi .i too have the festive knit pattern but can’t decide on a colour as I don’t want red have a good knitting break I’m looking at maud too isn’t it delightful I’ve used her patterns before and I like them bye for now and thankyou for giving your time
Thank you, I saw a beautiful Christmas jumper the other day all done in neutrals and it worked strangely well so might give that a try next year :) Dying to try letlopi, hope it’s going well!
