Whiskey, and whiskey adjacent things
An overlooked distillery
It flight night! I'll be reviewing the Aberfeldy core range. I'll explain why I think the distillery is overlooked and why it shouldn't be... also, we get to explore the influence of age on whisky. Cheers!

Worth the wait?... Grand Old Parr 18 blended Scotch review
Просмотров 852 месяца назад
Took a minute to track this one down. I don't remember the last time I put this much attention into obtaining a blended Scotch. Typically available in South American and Caribbean markets, I was able to find this little treat at the duty-free in NY state! So let's give a smell, a taste and a rating... #whisky #foryou #whiskylife #lifestyle #scotch #whiskycollection #marketing #alcohol #america
Toronto Whiskyfest hosted by Pure Spirits
Просмотров 152 месяца назад
Toronto Whiskyfest, hosted by @spiritspure, was a blast!! Key take aways: Ardbeg's Wee Beastie (described by @whiskybry as upside down and backwards) is aptly named! While it is a touch sweeter and darker (🤔??) Than the classic 10, it remains Ardbeg through and through. It's aged 5 years and bursting with flavour! Making it a great new market entry point for the brand. Glenmorangie's 12 year ol...
How good is Johnnie Walker Gold Label?
Просмотров 472 месяца назад
Reviewing @johnniewalkerwhisky Gold Label. It's bottled at 40% and runs just over $100 Canadian. It could be called a luxury blend... and with a name like "Gold label" it's clearly being marketed as such... is it the Gold standard? Or just a marketing shtick??? Let's see, shall we? #whisky #foryou #bourbon #lifestyle #scotch #whiskycollection #whiskylife #marketing #fyp
The Deacon blended Scotch whisky review
Просмотров 3912 месяца назад
The Deacon is a blended Scotch that fancies itself a tribute to master craftsmen of all trades. It marries smoky Speyside malts with peaty Islay malts to create a masterful blend that boasts characteristics of bon fire smoke of a speyside spirit, and peaty smoke more typical of Islay offerings... it's a smoky dram. They say it is rich and complex, and I'm about to find out... Let's have at 'er!...

It was all a dram - Dewar's Cask Series review
So you mean it s good for beginner peated whisky drinkers but not good in overall?
I just did my own side by side comparison. I’m very new to Irish Whiskey but after trying both I found the colour is the same, fragrance is the same and so is taste. The price is very different. $17 more for Jameson at LCBO. I enjoyed both but for the price I’ll stick with Bushmills.
It's my new favorite whiskey. I started my journey listining to "experts" who had me leaning toward these harsh, tasteless bourbons and whiskeys. Dudes trying to sound like sommeliers lying about all the "notes" they smell and taste.😂 GTFOH. I've come to just buy what I like, and this single malt is ultra smooth and pleasant-tasting. The "sweetness" adds to the experience - who said a drink has to burn for it to be quality? Fuck that. Try it, you'll love it!
@charlesh3990 most of my friends love it... especially those who generally prefer rums... the only real expert is you cuz it's your palate. Reviews can be useful guides, but snobbery can push whisky enthusiasts towards expensive and sometimes fully unenjoyable offerings cuz of "specs". Interestingly I recently had a cask strength single malt that was colored and chill filtered 🤔... and to be frank, tasted better at 40%. Funny thing about Scotch specifically is that experts prefer single malt, but the Market buys WAY more blends... experts are not necessarily "tuned in" effectively.
Haven’t tried it but going too. Love the tequilas they make especially the XA. The “experts” say the same thing about the tequilas, they can kiss my ass, adictivo is the shit.
So I just picked this up and went looking for reviews before trying it. But after trying it, I have to say, this is pretty bad. I was hoping it would be akin to something in the same price range, like Monkey Shoulder or JW Black, which are both decent budget blended scotches. But to me, on the nose, you get smoke and a little ginger, but it's also got this musty barnyard funk. The palate is slightly better, you get those smokey notes and spice and orange zest, but it's also very thin, very watery. The finish, to me, is the best part of it, almost like a toffee and pepper note to it. But overall, I don't like it. Which is a shame because the company that makes it, Sovereign, also produces a really good gin, (McQueen & the Violent Fog), a good rum (Bumbu), and a very nice cognac (Villon).

I was just gifted this bottle. Never been a fan of Islay, but i enjoyed this. 7/10
@michaeldegaetano4497 Glad to hear it... always nice to find a gem in an unlikely category. I have a bottle of the cask strength version on the way 😁 Thanks for watching and joining the conversation!
Was going to pick up these soon and give them a try 👍😉🥃 Cheers
@@thomasanderson2870 cheers!
Haven't tried Heaven Hill BiB yet. I have the Dickel 13yr BiB and do like it. I agree with you it's good because it's different and 13 years is impressive at the price point. Both are $50 here.
@andrettski8686 that's a great price... Cheers!
Colour looks very red. Is it finished in red wine?
oh god learn to edit videos bro !! appreciate the review but the cuts almost gave me a seizure LOL
It needs more flavor
What did you think?

I just noticed that your RUclips channel has a very pleasing appearance when I visited it. However, after looking more closely, I saw a few things that needed modification. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), in particular the use of rank tags and tag volume, is one important component. These topics don't seem to have received enough attention on your channel. These are the ones that jumped out to me, although there might be more problems.
Are you living in Ontario? I just start to learn about whiskey, found your video getting review of Te Bheag. Gonna get one tomorrow because your video. I hope I can see more vids about bottles worth to try at LCBO! Thanks
Yes, I'm in Ontario. Most reviews are lcbo or travel exclusives, but I like trying new whiskies, so due to provincial limitations, sometimes I review things I had to go find... Thank you for watching... Hope you enjoy the bottle... Cheers!
Thanks for reply, I'm enjoying now. I would say it's very good for 44.xx Cad! I prefer this over Jhonnie black label. Please make more video like this. I'm looking for under 100 cad bottles at LCBO! Have a good day @@itwasalladram...5657
One of the memorable bottles I traveled with on my one trip through Scotland years ago.
Its a beautiful Country, and a nice dram to accompany the scenery! I have also been only once... stayed in Edinburgh for a night, and visited the Dewar's Aberfeldy distillery. It was awesome! id like to go back and explore more... Thabks for watching... comments are always appreciated. Cheers!
Before i started my whisky "journey" in proper way(single malts mostly scotch) i was drinking a lot of Buahmills(all core range, 16yo was my favourite) and really like Black Bush but now at 40% abv its too flat for me. My palate has changed and no more accept 40% whiskies 🤷♂️ I had recently 5cl sample of Black Barrel full proof 50% and its really nice stuff. Cheers and Slàinte 🥂🙋🏻♂️
I find there are a few offerings that still deliver at 40%... but it does tend to frustrate me knowing there are notes and flavours being left on the table. I think the mass produced water down products have a purpose, but it's not exploration... Black bush at cask strength?! Lucky duck... 😂. Always nice to come across things like that. I got to try Aberfeldy 21 at cask strength on the Dewar's Aberfeldy distilery tour... it was dram-tastic stuff. The watered down version is way to pricey IMO. Thanks for watching and the comment is appreciated. Cheers!
interesting, I've not heard of it.
Ya, i had someone grab it out of town... it's good stuff.
Look forward to trying the 15, anything else you really recommend for someone new?
I find myself enjoying the glengoyne profile... i have not tried the 10 but the 12 was quite nice. I think the 10 is under $80 at yhe LCBO. If you want someying interesting on a budget Te Bheag (pronounced Chey Vek, it's Gaelic) is a high malt content blend thats non chill filtered and i believe bottled at 43%. That is around $45... and Bowmore 12 is quite tasty for the price if you want to venture into something more smoky..
Started drinking the 12 today, its my first wiskey and I added some water. It’s nice but boring like you said
Boring especially if you add water to stuff that's already watery
Picked up a bottle of the Balblair 12 few weeks ago from the SAQ. Don’t think LCBO carries it. Have yet to open it. Ralfy gave the Balblair 12 a great review.
Isn’t the Evan Williams a much cheaper (less expensive) bottle? Curious to try it now.
Its cheaper... $30 instead of $50... but these are both the entry offerings. The Elijah Craig barrel proof jumps to north of a hundred where you can still get the evan williams bottled in bond for closer to 50... and its very good. Thanks for watching and joining the conversation... cheers!
I havent... but i will be looking for it now.
Good catch... different juggernaut...😂. I will actually try a tossing in a drop of laphroig quarter cask... thanks for that. Cheers!
No, the Solera 15 profile is more in my wheelhouse. I would like to try that at 46-48% actually... This is not as tasty. IMO but it was worth the try...
very interesting this on in higher abv. Is it still Solera just bit stronger? to be honest i tried this ages ago and completely dont remember how it taste. cheers 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
BOOmore. its good juice and wasted potential but its nice in a cocktail or if you add few drops of Laphroaig CS.for example. P.S. Diagio/Diablo is Not an Owner. Its Beam Suntory but in this case its same shite. 🙈 cheers 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
its on my radar for long time but i think about cask strenght edition. Did you try CS verssion? cheers Slàinte and Happy New 2024 yearc👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
@@peatbull3426 😁 I have a bottle on the way... should arrive this week!
Like the straight forward quick review. Picked up a botte for $69 during the Christmas sales. Looking forward to trying it soon. Cheers.
Hope you enjoy... cheers!
Was your palate not affected by the prior glass?
It can be... never hurts to have a sip of water or a cracker in between. Some drams linger more or have more intense flavors... some are softer and don't "hand around" too long...
Great Video! I was just at the JD distillary and they had a big display of the Uncle Nearest
That's awesome! I wasn't aware of that... Thanks for the comment!
Nice Video! I favor Irish Whiskeys. Bushmills 10, 16, Port Cask. Tullamore D.E.W 14 aswell 😊👍🏻 not tested the orange one yet.
so basically, nasty
🤩 *promo sm*
the video has such a strong 2006/7 vibe, don't know if it's the camera or something else. cheers 🍾
Great channel name, just subbed
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoy!
Been looking at this for a while now, in NC it was 74.99 usd, and today just marked down to 69.99 so I finally pulled the trigger, I like it, although I'm such an Ardbeg fanboy that at the relative same price point I'll probably go for another Ardbeg 10 when it's gone.
Your palate was made for these reviews. Well done!
LOL Brother just just put a small Band-Aid on a third degree burn.
Nice speedy review buddy, would really reccoemend the Chivas Regal Rye Finish as well, it is a great drop. Cheers... Also great channel name.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I will keep an eye out for the Rye finish... good looking out
good review bro 🔥
