I have the Iceco VL60 Dual Zone Fridge/Freezer. I’m on my third one in three years. Have the same problems all three times where the units completely fails. This latest time had fridge set to 39 degrees F it ended up at 11 F. The freezer set to 5 degrees F ended at 79 degrees F. It was day two of a five day trip. All food was ruined and we had to end our trip short! Unfortunately I had our kitchen custom designed for this fridge. I will probably now have to go with a name brand fridge that is smaller and not dual zone. It’s unfortunate!

So glad you left the breakage scenes in - that alone is really informative for some one who is thinking to buy one of these. I am curious to know how long you’ve had the awning and how much use it had before that happened? Thanks for a great review

You probably really shouldn't be surprised at the overheating, mostly because you are running SO heavy, and also at altitude. That rooftop tent and awning and whatever rack they're mounted to have to be adding, what, 300 pounds to the roof? Plus the stuff on the spare tire, fridges aren't light, Hi Lifts aren't light, drawers are often not light...*it all adds up*. And if your JKU is running the 3.8L engine (likely, based on the color, dash and interior cues) I'm pretty sure those didn't come with the auxiliary transmission coolers like the later 3.6s did. As it doesn't seem to be a Rubicon, I'm wondering if it has 3.21 axle gears, which will hurt even more. In summary, it seems like you may be really pushing that Jeep beyond its limits, as evidenced by the warning lights on the dash. Steeper axle gears might help quite a bit, but (like all that stuff on the roof) won't do highway gas mileage any favors. If you don't already have one, an auxiliary transmission cooler would probably do quite a bit of good as well. But ultimately there's only so much you can squeeze out of a vehicle's drivetrain. I had a rooftop tent on my JKUR that I LOVED using, but ultimately felt it was just too hard on even the 3.6 drivetrain (with 37" tires and regear), so I sold the RTT and now lightweight ground tent it again. To each their own, but I'll sacrifice comfort for capability (and reliability) any day. Personally I don't think the JK makes a good "full overlanding (with all the gear)" platform, in large part because of the lack of gears in the transmission. Best of luck on your adventures! And if you're going to be out there solo, a winch is a *really* good idea, even though it will add even more weight. Ditching the Hi Lift and going with a bottle jack would help offset the weight difference, and improve airflow over the Jeep, too.

Have you purchased and used the matching mesh floor saver?

I’m 6’4” and always hit my head on the roll bar in my jeep. Did you do anything to address that with your jeep?

Hi I need a fridge for my camper and have 2 in mind, could you help me 1st one is iceco 85 litre 12/24 2nd one is dometic nrx 60 I live in my camper full time , i have solar and power when at camp ground but i dont like gas so what do you think is better for a camper

Great video but the sound is less than enjoyable. Speaking volume is up and down and the music is awful. So much louder than the voice so I have to be on the volume control all the time. Turn that music way down and it will be 100% better. Glenwood Springs is beautiful.

Good Video. Pro-tip. Use candle wax on the zippers and then wipe off. What little is left will keep that dirt/mud out of there.

For those steep climbs you need 4Lo and gear reduction to combat the altitude and angle other wise it will burn down the engine and transmission. Ive been on the trail its steep in the beginning.

Well, with a 20% off coupon for the Dometic fridge, it's about the same cost as the Iceco. I do like the Iceco fridge and the value it gives, but since I can get the Dometic for roughly the same cost, that would be my choice.

Good to see you back! Part of the adventure is the unexpected…. just gotta do what you can and try to enjoy it. I will say, that was an awesome campsite. That view was incredible! Looking forward to seeing more.

1 - Zipper - use some of that zipper lube that comes with the Yeti soft coolers / or some silicone spray 2 - Hinges - it's designed to be a break away point to save the rest of the system. Consider it a "sacrificial" point to help save further damage. The aluminum would just bend and then you would not be able to get it back into the bag without full dismantling. The hinges are cheap to purchase replacements. Look at all the Indy cars/Nas Car, heck all of our own cars that have plastic crumple zones. 3 - full deployment anchor point - Mine did not have this - all I did was wrap the strap around the back right 90 corner to the #4 support pole and pull it tight. That additional anvil looking thing is just an extra "improvement"

I had the previous original version - I think they merged or bought it from Oztent. Mine had Rhino Rack Batwing Oztent labels. I had it on a Lexus LX470 with Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform rack and man it was perfect. It was easy to deploy by myself, although the poles were separate so as it deploys, it's temporarily stressing those plastic hinges. After about 3 yrs. I finally had a couple hinges break, but it's designed that way to prevent additional damage. I was at the top of hill overlooking a lake. I didn't even think about the wind coming up off the lake and hitting the awning like a sail. It happened so fast. All of a sudden, two of the poles were snapped and on top of my rig. I ordered some replacement hinges and it was fine. I did not stake it down as that would have prevented it. There was no wind and then WOOOOSH a huge gust came out of nowhere. I like this new design where you can stake down the poles and not have to have guy lines everywhere. As others have said, I'm also considering the free standing type. I've changed rigs - 2015 Tundra with an ARE camper shell - gotta buy the roof rack first.

@4:00 I'd say if you know you're going to get it dirty, just run some masking tape or Gaffer's tape on the zipper to keep it clean. Cheap and effective solution.

Just an observation you’re a tall dude

Never would I buy that awning again because how easy it breaks at pivoting joint. And you can't and shouldn't put it out on a light windy day by yourself, it worthless in my book if you can't put it out when your alone.

Let's say you cool 2 cans of coke, one in a dometic and one in an iceco . After they are chilled You give those two cans a way to two people to drink. Are they going to know which can was in which refrigerator?

Just happen to come across this video because we're getting ready for some trips this spring, familiarizing myself with the SB RTT - turns out you're the guy I purchased this exact tent from! Pretty cool, I didn't realize you had a channel. Either way, excited to finally get to use it. We're upgrading to a telescopic ladder right off the bat because of all the terrible reviews these sliding ladders get haha. Anywho, great video. Subscribed, keep up the content!!

User Error; As you open it pull the legs down in a supporting manner, don’t t leave it dangling in the wind, find your set up height and leave legs at that height when opening and closing, User Error #2 Peg It Down asap, most damages are from failure to peg it down. 8/10 for review.

If the wind comes somethings gotta give. The hinges are the fuse and easily replaceable. If they were stainless steel then you're looking at bent arms. They probably designed it that way on purpose (plus it's cheaper). If I boaght one I guess I'd order a set of hinges with it to keep in the jeep. Good video. I am in the market and seeing yours break was helpful to know.

Funny. I'm traditionally a canoe camper. I've used Jetboils for years. They are a staple in my kit gear. Recently canoe camping has been off limits due to mobility issues and I'm shifting to overlanding/car camping and am looking at Coleman stoves. It's weird to look at gear from a completely different perspective. Thanks very much for your input.

Dude, thanks very much for your video. I'm just building up my first overland vehicle and as you know, it's hard to figure out how to rate your priorities to budget for. I had no idea the vast scale in pricing off road lighting is. I had no intention of spending the same money for lights as I did on suspension but now I know it could happen. Your opinion is very much appreciated!

Definitely Iceco! Both companies have garbage customer support/service. I'm sure both products will have the same longevity. I had to buy the Dometic and for a "we're made in the USA buy us, we're better!" and a premium priced product, I wish I had the Iceco. I bought the Dometic because I knew 100% it would fit in my JLU. Iceco could not answer that question and wanted to charge me shipping and restocking fees to find out. I wanted the Iceco but my hand was forced to the Dometic and so far my experience has been poor. I would NOT recommend a Dometic product to anyone. You're overpaying for garbage support and an average product.

Does water come in from the back and sides where it attaches to the rack and hits the back of the rack?

I got a costway from amazon. It's been running in my toyota for years. I couldn't afford the dometic, I don't go on trips full time.

I hate this awning. The first time I set it up it broke one of the rods. I fixed it and have very cautious ever since. Recently at a beach while I was seeing it up with no wind, I pulled it out and leant into my cab to get the sand stakes and the slightest breeze blew the awning over my canopy and broke three plastic rods and scratched my car. I would not buy this again. Go for somthing a bit stronger.
