      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While it's true that material choice is important, modern PEX systems like Uponor's are rigorously tested for durability and safety. They're widely trusted for their resistance to corrosion and freezing. Always a good idea to explore all options to find what works best for your needs!

      It can be, but there is no one size fits all. My area has a massive problem with hard water causing pitting and leaks in copper pipes. I have had to spend thousands of dollars to fix copper pipes already. PEX can freeze without bursting, copper can't. While that is not an issue in my area, it is a huge issue in other areas. There is no perfect plumbing type. They all have their advantages and drawbacks.

There was indeed a class-action lawsuit regarding these failures, which was ultimately dismissed after a settlement was reached. It obviously isn't Clickbait.... There have been multiple lawsuits against Uponor and other companies related to PEX plumbing products, including: George v. Uponor, Inc. A class action lawsuit alleging that Uponor's brass PEX fittings were defective and caused water leaks and economic losses. NIBCO PEX Plumbing Product Class Action Lawsuit A class action lawsuit alleging that NIBCO's PEX tubing, fittings, and clamps were prone to failure and caused water damage. The settlement was $43.5 million and provided relief for past and future failures. Uponor settled a class action in 2018 for $18 million over the use of a zinc-heavy form of brass in its Wirsbo PEX plumbing. Uponor also settled the class action lawsuit earlier this year, so there was obviously an issue there.

      @@ryanhealey239 You can still run copper to an outside hose bibb but you need to install an interior shutoff. Close the inside then open the outside shutoff during freezing weather. Never had a broken copper pipe.

    • @redbaron6805
      @redbaron6805 9 дней назад

      @@ryanhealey239 No, freezing pipes are a huge issue in all areas, as hose bibs and other areas are exposed to freezing weather, and a home that isn't insulated correctly can have pipes freeze.

    • @redbaron6805
      @redbaron6805 9 дней назад

      @@RenoGerry I have had to replace thousands of dollars worth of copper pipes, with slap leaks that where massively expensive and difficult to bypass, and my house is barely 30 years old. And I'm not the only one, it is a plague in my entire area. There isn't a one size fits all for plumbing. It all depends on the water type, environmental factors and how it was installed. With PEX, you can often have manifolds that can shut off individual pipes to every faucet and appliance. That is rarely ever done with copper, having to turn off the main water valve or nothing.

    Very educational for potential homebuyers, since there were roughly 1.5 to 2 million homes in the US built between 1965 - 1975, a time when single strand aluminum wiring was most likely to have been used. I had the privilege of seeing for myself just how problematic aluminum wiring can be when I was 16, in the summer of 2005 as I was helping my stepdad rewire his ranch style home built in 1973, that he purchased a few months earlier that spring, with aluminum wiring throughout, and the electrical service was a 70 amp Zinsco breaker box in which some of the breakers were arc welded to the bus bar and the main lugs had been arc welded into position, requiring the meter be pulled and bolt cutters were required to cut the wires from the meter base in order to remove the panel from the bedroom closet and replace it with a square D homeline in the laundry/utility area. As for the 12 awg single strand aluminum for the 15 amp 120 volt general purpose circuits, there were several receptacle outlet/switch boxes in the home that were badly charred right up to and possibly past the clamp where the cable enter the box. As a result Dad and I rewired the entire home with copper since a good portion of the wiring was too far gone to pigtail safely. We left the old aluminum wires abandoned in the walls and ceilings but removed what was accessible in the crawlspace so that no one in the future will attempt to repower the aluminum wires and create a safety hazard for their family.

      @Proinspectsolutions 13 дней назад

      Thank you for sharing your insightful experience! It’s incredible how hands-on learning like that stays with you. Aluminum wiring is definitely a critical topic for homebuyers to be aware of, especially in homes from that era. Your firsthand story really highlights the importance of understanding and addressing potential safety hazards early on. Kudos to you and your stepdad for tackling such a challenging project and making the home safer for future families! 🛠🏠

      Great point! There’s definitely peace of mind in sticking with tried-and-true materials like copper with sweat joints. History has taught us a lot about material reliability, and it's always better to be cautious when it comes to something as critical as plumbing or wiring!
