Arkansas Brewery Road Trip | Ox Bend Brewing, Ozark AR
On our channel we have decided to narrow our content to our two favorite topics: Food and travel! With this mini series we are doing on our page, we get to combine both of those! We are on a quest to have the ultimate Arkansas Brewery Road Trip by marking off as many of the 42 breweries part of the Arkansas Brewers Guild.
This is the first video of this series. We went to the Ox Bend Brewing Company in Ozark, AR. Though the outside may be a little unconventional, the inside is a wonderful surprise! It feels just homey enough to want to have a seat and stay a while. They pride themselves on being a family and pet friendly place that wel...

    First things first: the *City* is not the same as the *County*. The city used to have a population of over 750k. It's now down around ~300k. That's a lot of empty space. It also means that it is spread out and that you have very distinct neighbourhoods - 30+ of them, in fact. *Very* few people *live* downtown these days. It is mostly people coming into it during the day for work, and even then that has been declining for the last 50+ years. Downtown *is* as safe as anywhere else in the US. Go north of downtown and you're in a crap area that *is* dangerous. The majority of the crime in St Louis occurs in just 2 neighbourhoods, both just north of Downtown. Go south or west of Downtown and you've got Shaw, Tower Grove, Central West End, etc. All these places are much more residential. You've got life and activity. You've also, again, got no more crime than in most of the rest of the US. That said, you still don't want to be out, alone, and drunk on a Saturday night at 2am stumbling around the back streets of those (or any other) areas: you *will* get mugged - but that's really no different from many other cities in the US. What's really fascinating about St Louis is how quickly the neighbourhoods change from nice to crap.

    Well, you dodged the nightmare that is the Arch! Downtown St Louus is quiet during the day. The "main street" is Washington ave. There are more vacant store fronts than occupied. You need to go to The Grove or Soulard or the Hill. People don't gove a shit about keeping there home clean. If you go in to some of the neighborhoods on the East Side, it literally looms like all of the homes were pranked by taking their trash cans and dumped them out all over the front and back yard. ALL of the fast food joints are awful and you might lose weight while here. Like I said, you have to go in to better neighborhoods for the hidden gems of food. You'll never anyone pulled over in the city for speeding or anything cuz the cops don't have time. Every other car has temp plates that are expired. Stop lights are optional to most of our expired tab driving citizens. Respect for one's self and others is not something practiced down town. You can hear gunfire almost nightly. Instead if crickets or owls, we have glocks that sooth you to sleep. Citizens of downtown are super generous too. You can go into the lobby of any condo and just help yourself to random Amazon packages that people purchase for others to have. It's a really cool system. Recently it's been rumored that they are going 5o start filming on a new addition to The Walking Dead since so many areas already look like the end if the world too place. If you come to visit, you should absolutely feels safe as our city leaders were one of the first major cities to champion defund the police. I promise, if you're afraid of the police, they don't have time to bother you here!😂

    I have lived in the St. Louis area since 1986 and I have never felt unsafe when I walk downtown. Night-life is present on Washington Ave. but in general other neighborhoods like the Central West End, South Grand, and various suburbs are better known for that. The "slum" district is north of downtown. Many blocks have only 3 or 4 standing houses because the city lost so much population in the decades after the 1950s. Nobody would even try to go there after dark, and you can see that it's dangerous just from its appearance. Other than that the metro area is actually safer as a whole than most other cities.

    • @pringlized
      @pringlized Год назад

      I've been to St. Louis a couple times. Love that city. But ya, drove by the Fabulous Fox. Few blocks down there were emptied lots, everything was boarded up, and I looped around a side street. Whole bunch of dudes without shirts just drinking 40's sitting on stoops who got up when they saw us driving up the street. St. Louis is a great city, but like all cities there are areas to know about and avoid. I've lived in Oakland and San Francisco. I wasn't surprised.

  • @Healthyagingwithmarvin

    Is St. Louis safe? It depends upon where you go and what you are doing and who you are doing it with. I find the Downtown has always been underwhelming but there is still a lot to do with the National Blues History Museum, City Museum, Museum of Westward Expansion just to name a few. It is not the most vibrant or best neighborhood. Forest Park has many attractions like the Zoo, History Museum, Art Museum, Science Center and much more. As far as living there, it does have a unique sense of place. Reasonable cost of living and super easy to get around. It's basically a small big city.

      Every big city dealt with this. It's not unique to STL. You should have seen San Francisco during the pandemic. Way worse than it ever was, and I've seen plenty of bad shit over 20 years. Everybody saw it on the news around the globe, and now the National Guard is coming in to deal with the fentanyl epidemic. It's gonna take years for each city to rebound. I'm totally moving to STL. Love that city. After SF, I know how to spot and avoid places I probably shouldn't go at certain hours of the day. Now I'm not a gun nut. But you can open carry and conceal carry without a permit in Missouri if thats your thing.
