Philco Radio Restoration (We Got Smoke) Part 1
Anybody know what size speaker is is in there? I'm waiting on on a partial one of those
I have always seen tube testers as go, no go devices. The real truth about a tube is how it preforms in the circuit. Slightly weak tubes some times are fine in use.
this is tek 465B not 465
멋져요...
glad I'm not the only one who wrecks speakers! haha😂
Music like that can be relaxing while working.
I like the music you’re playing in the background. It’s nice.
Are you working in an elevator? Its the background musak!
I actually like the music. What kind of dispenser is the alcohol in?
You know what's sad. A bimbo putting on makeup bitching about lbgt intolerance issues can get a 200,000 views and 50,000 comments but you, a craftsman a highly skilled person like yourself, someone actually useful in our society gets 867 views and 11 comments. Tells a lot about our society. I salute you.
I agree if you loose music that would be great
Beautiful🌹 and🌹👍
Good for you. Nice job!
I did the same thing with my General Electric console added stereo input my Ge uses two 6V6 audio puts ! The cabinet looks great !
Philco made valve computers too..... boy they were BIG.
Did you check for continuity through the radio? This sounds like maybe an open switch, or an open tube filament. How about the switch that determines if it runs off the battery or the ac line?
I'd like this video better without the repetitive music. Otherwise, good. Thanks.
Looks and sounds good. Nice job.
Interresting antenna. Seems to be a frame antenna but what does a frame antenna need a shield for... and the label on the antenna says no wires and no ground nessecary... strange, Please kill the music.
lol. And it was not even new year... I am glad that the chassis was standing up and not pointing the bottom at your face.
Nice work. Good looking and sounding radio.
First time i watched a video on your channel and I like the content but would you please leave out the elevator music ? Subscribing and serching for part 2. I like this radio and your choices for refinishing the cabunet.
Like watching your work but the background music is annoying. You can’t hear whats going on with the radio. Thanks!
You've got a VERY INTERESTING radio video 📻 📹!! There's something about these old wooden radios. Quality went into them, and they were built by proud 👏 American workers. Just turning the volume knob on, and waiting for the radio to warm up was the best part. The glow (and the smell) of the tubes. The warm sound they produced. It was GREAT, listening to the ball game 🏑. These were functional pieces of art 🎨. Not Walmart garbage of today. The worst kind of capacitors in these is the bumblebees. They leak an oily like matter, and go POP!! It is best to replace bumblebees with capacitors that are less prone to going POP!! Just subbed!! Your friend, Jeff!!
I agree with everything you stated. Do what we can to keep these old radios alive.
I have two of these.
2:50 it did not soak properly yet.
You may have noticed this upon editing, but if not: @10:05 on the 30µF cap, your cap tester is actually showing 22.3 *nano*Farads, and continues to display nanoFarad values on all the other sections of that filter cap.
i love to see old stuff being brought back to life...cheers
Not a total restoration but, still a great job. Sounds great.
Maybe I missed something, but how did a miswired volume control prevent current draw from all the heaters?
I'm not sure exactly how it killed any sound output and caused the heater elements to fail. After I corrected the miswire and found it worked, I didn't troubleshoot further. On hindsight, I could have used the scope to see why.
Having those pictures save the head scratching, that I have gone through, and a nice repair on the speaker !
Hi, Your Philco portable radio is sounding, and performing great: a positive result. As a matter of interest, are you familiar with radio restoration videos of “David Tipton”, and “Electronics Old and New”? If not, check out their uploads to RUclips; very likely you will be entertained, as well as impressed. Best regards, PB
I have watched David Tipton. I'll check out the other . Thanks
Hi, Your radio restoration/repair is progressing nicely. I will now view Part 2. Thank you. Best regards, PB.
Thank you for your comments.
Very Nice, Great job!!
You went in and found the problem. Good lesson learned when it comes to taking photos/ video of the before to confirm the mistake and go to correct it. Finding what was wrong otherwise could have taken hours or days! Cleverly designed AC/DC override switch on the Philco. She works great after alignment.
That's interesting. I see it on the schematic. Thanks for your input.👍
A wire wrapped around a capacitor that goes from one end of the cap to chassis is a choke. It was there to keep signals from maritime AM broadcasts from overloading the signal path in AGC circuits. Those maritime radios don't exist anymore as they broadcast in the FM band now. It was found in many radios back then and can be replaced with a ordinary cap of the same value to chassis ground. Mr. Carlson didn't even know that but I did. Thanks to my grandpa for telling me that when I asked him some 50 years ago. It is on the diagram as C 27 with the coil as L2 and goes to C28 to ground.
Thanks for this! And thanks, Grandpa Master Nipper!
Great chassis. I've owned an AC70 chassis in a different cabinet for nearly forty years and until recently, never did any work to it. A solid performer.
Thanks
That's a beautiful job, thanks for sharing
I have the same unit. fully restored all caps and re-aligned. unfortunately heat and bad environment from antiques shop i bought it from has ruined face plate. it has slowly begun curling. not to mention also the cat urine . but it performs o.k.
Interesting video.
Glad you think so!
Are you possibly related to Philo Farnsworth?
@@KiowaKid not that I know of.
Interesting.
