    This is why the 18th Amendment was passed. A lot of people saw the evil in drinking. And there was much, much more drinking of alcohol in those days. Beer was thought of as being a healthy alternative to drinking water. Beer was even thought of as liquid bread.

    I wrote Miss Gish back in the 1980s and told her what a great actress she was. She sent me back an autographed photo. One of the most underrated stars of the silent era.

    • @youngsteph1
      @youngsteph1 26 дней назад

      I hardly think she was underrated. For many years she was seen as the top female star.

    • @debbutcher9087
      @debbutcher9087 26 дней назад

      @@youngsteph1 Yes, during the silent era she was popular, but she wasn’t remembered after that. I just think that she never got the later notoriety that she deserved.

      @@debbutcher9087 Perhaps, but when I was young I had no interest in old films, especially ones in black & white, let alone foreign langague or silent ones, but over the years I have adapted to all types of films. In those days the only silent stars I had heard of was Laurel & Hardy, Chaplin, & Mary Pickford, yet I knew who Lillian Gish was, so she was obviously well known even years later.

    • @debbutcher9087

      @@youngsteph1 It’s funny how many young people today still know who Chaplin is, but no other silent stars.

      @@debbutcher9087 When I was younger silent Laurel & Hardy, & Chaplin were on telly alot, usually over the holiday periods, but I haven't seen them shown for years. Instead it is now full of dross like Ant & Dec, Mrs Browns Boys, & reality TV. Where did it go wrong.

    This was very risque for 1913. The dancers, & his lover in a sleeveless dress was nearly unheard of at that time in US. Obviously an adult club of the time.

    Beautiful video and love the music as well... I was thinking if there was a way you could zoom in on the licence plate you could find out what country this was filmed.. I am only guessing.. but it appears this may possibly be filmed perhaps in Great Britain.. due to the size of the numbers on the licence plate itself...

    I wish I lived around this time.. and to the people saying "I don't get why.. cause they had problems too etc" well every generation had/has/will have problems.. it's life.. I just wish I was around in theres times as there is more interaction with people, (other then being on our phones and computers as we are now) more LOVE between families (not saying there arent, now..or saying every family was perfect back then.. but in America it is 63.4%divorced rate.. and getting higher each year) and people actually being more civilised (and not looking at everything as sex or anything like that showing their bodies off like its nothing with out having shame..) we're rude people now adays (yes they where too with the wars and racism.. but look at us now, we might have a ww3 and we are kicking up and tryna break into racial wars and the world is getting more chaotic, with mass shootings, bombings and suicides.. again not saying those didnt happen back then.. but we have so many now adays) everyone is on medications now adays (that no one really needs, and get giving like they are just band-aids) and people are living off the system acting like they dont understand english or in pain.. people are doing more drugs then they did back then, and its crazy (cause back then they didnt really know about the affects but then again not many of the now-aday-drugs where out.. well some but not all) but anyways if you look at it we havent really changed with our problems at all.. other then a few things.. and an tbh I also probably wish I was able to be around in this generation cause I know Its impossiable.. no matter what, and it just makes my imagination work thinking about how life could've been.
