The Aemmer Couloir - An Unlikely Score On A Canadian Rockies Classic
After skiing the Spearhead Traverse in fantastic conditions, Brennan and I drove 8 hours on the famous 'powder highway' to Banff National Park, where we posted up for a window on The Aemmer. Splitting a gash down the left side of the otherwise impenetrable north face of Mount Temple, The Aemmer is easily one of the most aesthetic lines in the Canadian Rockies, and sporting a steep and sustained pitch throughout, it's an exciting ski!
Starting at 5:00am and skinning up to Lake Annette on mostly rotten, isothermal snow, we felt our optimism fade, but as soon as we reached the base of the line, everything changed! Watch along and see how we went from a likely turnaround, to an epic pow line i...

Spearhead Traverse - Skiing A Coast Range Classic In Reverse
Просмотров 3702 месяца назад
The Spearhead Traverse is a classic ski traverse in the Coast Range of British Columbia. It crosses 10 glaciers, skiing over 6k vertical feet, connecting Blackcomb to Whistler, well... usually. With only a late season window to work with, and Blackcomb closed early this year, we opted to do the traverse in Reverse. Starting at Whistler, ending at Blackcomb. Follow along to see this 3 day advent...
Silver Couloir - Party Skiing A Colorado Classic
Просмотров 8033 месяца назад
Silver Couloir is a 3000 foot continuous ski descent off the iconic Buffalo Mountain, and one of the 50 Classic Ski Descents. I drove out to Colorado with the idea I would boulder for a few days, then fly to Vancouver for a strike mission, then back to CO for my Alpine Guide Course. When I arrived I saw plenty snow still plastered the mountain tops. Lacking a ski partner, my friend Ian connecte...

Skiing Tuckerman Ravine In The Rain? - Wild Weather and Amazing Skiing

Spring Shenanigans - Skiing Oakes Gulf and Mount Franklin.

With only two lines left in the entire Southern Presi, and the clock ticking on our snow depth, I really wanted to make sure I at least attempted Right Buttress and Bifocal Gully before the season ended. To our luck, both lines were still in. However, they wouldn't come without some spring shenanigans. In this episode, we negotiate adventurous creek crossings, free solo a moss gully, grass ski,...
Mount Franklin Cirque - Skiing New Hampshire's Forgotten Ravine

Just beyond Oakes Gulf lies Mount Franklin Cirque, a zone that sees very few visits each year. Rumors of long walks and complex terrain keep most people away, but this zone holds some fantastic skiing. The day after the solar eclipse, I awoke at 4:00am feeling charged up and full of energy, for a solo tour in the White Mountains. With temps just above freezing and wind at summit elevations, I o...

The Essential Ski Skill That No One Is Talking About

There is a lot of education available for skiers out there. From AIARE, to the PSIA, to the various ski mountaineering courses that different guides offer. I don’t know if you could tell in the video but I was right at the ends of my rope so it was a 30m rappel. The landing was also on a spine above another small ice bulge and the gully curves. Yes it could be dropped, but if I fell I could’ve died, so too much risk for me. Maybe someone else.
