    Only if you have a high or mid high body fat percentage. You can use your body fat instead of carbs correct? I know if you eat a lot of carbs it basically becomes fat and thus your body fat goes up. But do you also recommend no or low carbs for someone that is skinny? My goal right now is to have a six pack although it will take a few months I think a high caloric deficit + resistance training + low carb + high protein will do it.

    I appreciate your thoughts on ketogenic diets. Of course carbs can be converted to fat via lipogenesis and is of course again it is the reason people put on fat on a high carb diet that is greater than their energy needs.

  • @AR-gk1kt

    Holy Cow, a carnivore who doesn't espouse it being the 'proper diet for humans' and if it doesn't work for someone, they 'didn't do it right'. It's a shame to see otherwise very smart and well intentioned people fall into that trap because they feel it's optimal for them. Good on you.

    Carbohydrates actually seems to be essential for longevity. Where are all the low carb centenarians? To claim keto is sustainable you really have to ignore all long term nutritional research studies ever published. At best it’s a gamble with your long term health, and the odds are terrible.

    • @jeanpaultongeren125
      @jeanpaultongeren125 3 дня назад

      I dissagree. The Keto dieto has many overlaps with the mediterenian diet if you have lots of veggies, good fats like nuts avocado oil and olive oil. You still get all the anti oxidants and polyphenols. Unlike on a carnivore diet. Combine that with the fact that your in ketosis, and fasting So yeah the Keto diet is great,. the best diet there is

    • @reason3581
      @reason3581 3 дня назад

      @@jeanpaultongeren125 Yes, a more plantbased keto is probably better than animal based keto. But it’s still low carb and it’s still largely unproven for longevity. Whole grains and legumes are staples in all longevity hot spots. I would still say it’s a gamble. I guess we all decide how we want to place our bets. I do fasting Mimicking Diet (which is basically plant based low carb but less than 800 calories) for five days a couple times per year. Otherwise I see no reason to limit whole food carbs.

    Just started carnivore 3 weeks ago. The amazing energy I'm experiencing is enough for me to truly consider making this a way of life. You have to listen to your body and make decisions based on that in itself. I'm 63 years old and refuse to accept the mindset of thinking all my aches and pains are just from getting older. Be kind to yourself and start living!!

    Its not black or white. It's about balance. Individual balance. Don't overeat, move your butt, eat a variety of natural food, but not 60% carbs, more towards like 25% prot, 35% carb and the rest fat.

    I believe dr Bikman. He uses science and what he says is backend up by the science. Reasoning leads to an opinion. If you are in ketose and your insuline is low and you eat no carbs and moderate protien, you can not store fat. So under certain conditions you will not store the fat you eat, no matter how much calories. Most people don't know if insuline is low, and think if glucose is low, insuline must be low too. But e.g. someone who eats no carbs and more protein then his body can use, can have high enough insuline to store the fat. This is only one example.

    Thank you!! I’ve been doing carnivore for a year. I’m still trying to balance all of my macros and realize that many factors play in to what they should be and possibly change over time. I have started to put on a couple of inches and feel that my fat grams were too high, but confused because other influencers have said to make sure we are eating enough fat. I really appreciate your insight, and I’ll continue to adjust accordingly to what I may need!! Thanks again!

    Over eating fat is like overeating figs, comes straight out your bum. Carbs go into your blood and fatten up you liver. It's not rocket science.

  • @leslieirvin5660
    @leslieirvin5660 21 день назад

    This didn’t address the mechanism by which excess energy gets stored. Ie in the presence of elevated insulin. In the absence of elevated insulin- you can’t store excess energy as fat. So, that would mean either one was eating enough carbohydrates or protein to stimulate an elevation in insulin. In the absence of a rise in blood glucose - insulin will remain low. So how much insulin must be available to store excess fat when ingested. I realize it is not at zero unless you are a type 1 diabetic.

    Great conversation. The message at the end of the video should have been at the beginning and then reinforced throughout. There are times and health conditions that may get benefits from the suggestions/tools that others are offering. Not everyone will. One must do their own research and experimentation to figure out what works for that individual.

    Yeah losing body fat is about avoiding overeating, but something you should keep in mind is that losing body fat is just as much about creating the appropriate hormonal environment in your body to liberate fat, which means keeping your insulin low. In the body of a hyperinsulinemic person, they'll eat a meal and their body will furiously start storing that energy, leaving them tired and hungry soon afterwards. In contrast, a low insulin ketogenic person is losing ketones in their breath and their urine because their body isn't trying to store it, in other words they're exhaling and urinating calories. The best way to stay in this fat adapted, body fat liberating state is to get a high percentage of your calories from dietary fat, because fat causes the smallest insulin response of any macronutrient. You'll still store some fat if you overeat because protein has a moderate insulin response and protein almost always comes along with fat, but the villain in this scenario is the protein and not the fat because you're not directly storing the fat you eat. If you're ketogenic, the fat that ends up on your body isn't from the fat you're eating, it's the excess protein being converted to glucose through gluconeogenesis, and that glucose then being converted to body fat by way of acetyl CoA.
