The WALK UPON ENGLAND project is a celebration of the countryside as a source of creativity in music and spoken word. At its heart are suites of music composed by England’s rural living musicians and writers who find their inspiration from walking within the beauty and scale of the country’s unspoiled panoramas.
The first album of the project is titled ‘In A South Downs Way’, composed by Damian Montagu and arranged and recorded in his Sussex studio with trumpet player and former Paul Weller sideman, Stewart Prosser. The actor Hugh Bonneville contributed and narrated written reflections.

'Sussexscape', composed by Damian Montagu
On 24 January, Damian Montagu's single 'Sussexscape' was released, alongside his new album 'A Walk Into Reverie’ listnin.co/AWalkIntoReverie
Damian Montagu said of this track, “With ‘Sussexscape’ I am trying to represent musically the very uplifting feeling that you get from walking in dense woodland and then suddenly coming across a clearing and being struck by the beauty of wide open downland landscape. I hope that the music captures this experience.”

Have just listened to a podcast download of Hugh Bonneville on Desert Island Discs. He played a track by Damien Montagu, from the album In a South Downs way. Absolutely stunning track. Reminiscent in places of Vaughan Williams a lark ascending. Thank you Mr Boneville for drawing my attention to this artist/album. It is Hugh's last musical choice on DID and well worth a listen. So very beautiul and calming, heard it on desert island discs this morning
Just heard a track from Hugh Bonneville's Desert Island Discs selection - beautiful, moody, haunting. It's been decades since i've been there but the music evokes rolling views, singing Skylarks and Chalk Orchids and brings a tear to an ever-aging rambler/naturalist's eye.....
