Consumer Direct e bikes
professional e-bike mechanic warning against consumer direct e-bikes. If you do not know how to work on bikes or electronics, don't buy consumer direct. Bike shops are starting to refuse these bikes because of the cheap quality and replacement parts that we can't get a hold of. there's no sense. storing a bike is not repairable. there's no sense buying a bike that's not repairable. unless you can do the work yourself. don't buy direct to consumer bikes because the bike shops are getting frustrated with losing money on jobs and customers taking out their frustrations on the bike shop rather than thinking about the company who manufactured the bike and first place installed it to you direct...

Black Friday gravel ride @biloxi Bicycle Works
I’d be curious to hear an update about what happened with the bike and customer. Thanks.
Just bought this bike yesterday and so far so good. First gravel bike. My only complaint is the saddle cause I’m sore lol
I think you sold a bike over in Oregon. Time to do a drive to a bike shop to pick up a Santa Monica.
Sounds like someone is waffling 🤷🏼♂️
I had an 88 with tuffs!!! Wish I still had it!!
What climbs are there in Mississippi? Especially around Biloxi, let’s be real now
Thanks for the review. Bought a 2022 Allez elite that I’m waiting to be assembled.
can you fit 34s on it?
* you could sell your friend a $250. fork! Problem solved & happy customer too!
What size is this bike and how big is the rider?
That front fork looks scary. What is truly frightening is the cable brakes on something that goes 28MPH.
I understand what you mean, but can't you "fix" the issue? It's bent....bend it back unless your friend can get the bike replaced. If he is gonna be stuck with it...bend it and fix it. I'm sure there is a legal paper he can sign stating that you can't be held responsible but I'm sure you know all that. Nice looking shop.
The algorithm got you one viewer from Ireland for this video. I deliberately shopped around local bike shops in my area looking for my first e-bike because I was decided upon buying from a bricks and mortar store even if the same machine was available cheaper direct to the consumer online. Also I'm 2 metres tall so needed the biggest possible frame size available. I needed something big and strong and reliable. Who better to recommend the best fitting bikes available from a limited availability of options than a retailer. And most importantly, if there was a problem initially or during the warranty period I want to have an actual human being I can eyeball and deal with and who has experience and connections with the bike companies and suppliers. Settled on a Cube Kathmandu with advice and after a long wait for the manufacturer to eventually make more XL frames, the bike arrived almost two weeks ago and I took it for its first test ride before bringing it home. Everything perfect. Delighted with the bike. Back at the shop, discovered that the battery cover was incredibly hard to take off or put back on again. Left it in the shop for the owner to deal with Cube and sort this out. It's just a faulty release button apparently. When it's sorted I'll collect and pay for the bike. I'm feeling very justified that even though I could have saved a couple of hundred bucks ordering online, this is the reason why it's always worth buying from your local bike shop. They'll give you good advice and if they are worth their salt, will have your back when you have problems and sort it out for you.
I understand your concerns about direct-to-consumer e-bikes, especially with shipping damages. I agree these issues can Be troublesome for customers who are not familiar with e-bikes. However this presents an opportunity for your repair business. Unfortunately, shipping issues aren't unique to e-bikes; they also happen with regular bicycles. This problem is often due to shipping companies, like FedEx, delegating the responsibility of unloading bikes to a single driver, which can potentially violate safe lifting workplace laws. However, many manufacturers cover shipping damages if you provide an invoice from a bike shop. Also, components like a front suspension fork are universal and should be relatively easy to source for a bike repair shop. Optimizing the procedures in your shop might help reduce the time spent inspecting and repairing these bikes. Shipping damage shouldn't be a reason to dismiss the entire direct-to-consumer model, as it offers great value and convenience to many riders.
You spent an hour unloading the bike from a pickup truck? Seems to me like either you're a weakling or you lack credibility yourself.
How do you really feel?
Nice place, great bike shop. 🚲 Keep up the good work. Hello Biloxi 👋 from Texas. 😂
hello..I'm interested in a bike and it's worth buying. I'm 181.5 cm tall, what size bike will I take L or bigger..for me.thanks
Absolutely fair and as a newbie consumer, I 100% support this message. Sounds like you're generally OK with the 'bigger' internet brands that at least are US-based and/or try to build relationships with LBSs, like Aventon, Priority, etc. ?
Great talk. Dont blame you one bit. During the Plandemic, no bikes at my local bike store.(not Biloxi) Bought from a Bike Direct company. Never again. That will be my one experience with that. lol. Took a while, we finally got Treks. Those are keepers.
That looks to be bent via transport. I have had nothing but good experience with bafang motors.
Just ordered the new blue one!!
They don’t get it Bro. They think we owe them. But giving great service is what we are about
The value of material things has diminished emensly. I dropped $150.00 on one of these yesterday. Excellent bike that doesn't need a motor to get up to speed.
Congrats and thanks for sharing….Mine arrives here Friday…I’m psyched!
I'm still waiting on mine 😂 patiently.
Great information. I just bought two AIMA e-bikes yesterday. Got the Big Sur for myself and a Big Sur Sport for my wife. Bought them from a local shop that just got some in. Apparently, they are flying off the shelves. I have only ever bought bikes from local shops, because of the support issue.
Had a step father who rode a bike everywhere. He was hit by cars many times, no helmet or bike paths then. The landline rang many times from far off ERs. He died from a brain tumor. One ER doc said it could have been from many head tramas from bike accidents. Skeptical
I’m surprised there are not more out there …. I love my 5
I have this bike but blue color 2022 with Rock shox SID 35mm fork, removed DB8 brakes (it was shit and i dont liek sram brakes feeling) installed slx 7100 2 pistons and happy, braking much better. also removed default handlebars and stem and put longer stem 100mm and 760mm carbon handlebars with ESI extra chunky grips. But still have feeling that bike is slow and heavy....
The entire video I was thinking “this guy looks so familiar.” And then I realized, “it’s the guy from the bike shop in Biloxi!” It must feel bad living a place with such bad bicycle infrastructure. Have you considered leaving?
#Wicked #Wired
Do you recommend this bike like on trails with some roots? I just recently bought one and thought about changing the tires out to a bit wider. I so love this bike a lot and my second Specialized.
Can you use 45mm tires on this bike?
What? Just do the review!
Great video! I just looked at our area, the closest Canyon authorized repair center is a 3.5 hour drive. It’s incredible how many people don’t understand that if they buy the bike online they are putting their local bike shops at risk. The customer might save a few nickels up front, but they end up paying in lost time and $$$ over the life of the bike. I’d love to hear your thoughts about TREK offering consumer direct. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you for the honest review of this e-bike. Nice to see that canyon put integrated front & rear lights on this bike, because a lot of high-end e-bike companies skimp on that feature! Do you know how hard it is to pull out the battery on this bike for servicing/replacement down the road?
The lack of lights on some other e-road and e-gravel bikes is hard to understand as it allows them to be integrated with the bike's battery. It just makes sense.
I feel like this bike is begging for at least an IGH if not belt as well. That derailleur sticking out looks like it could cause trouble with passengers. Neat idea though.
$14k a fucking car
Good video! We're waiting to get our two Big Surs delivered so, I know what you mean about limited availability. BTW...AIMA is pronounce EYE-mah. 😊
I’ve been riding the SL7 for 3 weeks now!! I can honestly say (I own all 3 Treks..Domane, Madone gen 6 Sl 7 and an Emonda Sl 6 Pro.) that this bike is incredible!! As fast as older Madone… as light and playful and light as the Emonda.. and as comfortable as the Domane!!!!
This is great to hear👍…my SL7 gen 8 is on it’s way
My shop says I’ll want the SLR but I’m set on the sl7 in dark star. It’s making my final decision tough. They have what I want in stock too. Afraid I’ll regret not getting the SLR but for an extra $2500 ugh.
@@coasterguy8696unless you're a top pro, the SLR isn't needed. Focus on things you can control like spinning better, shift timing and other things. Just ride!
😂 I had a TT bike $2000 I killed everyone They had a avg $7000 It’s not bike it’s ur leg 😂 They still can’t break Greg lemond record
You brought a tt bike to a road bike group? You bought speed
@@Millicente whole bike TT and TT group
@@scarface1980100 then yeah your legs were better than theirs. It’s ok though. Just like it’s ok to buy a car with 300hp even if you’re not a pro racer
@@Millicente now days every bike Beautiful and fast
calm down fred, it'll be ok
Ordered mine on Friday. Replaces crashed gen 4 Domane.
What size is this?
Hey man, so if you Had to decide between an emonda for the Rest of your life or an Madone gen 8, what would you Personally choose ? Greetings from Germany!
Good question but the answer after writing the Gen 8 is easy. I would choose the new gen 8 Madone for sure. And I am a big fan of the Emonda
@@TheBicycleRiderthanks appreciate it!!!
19lbs $6k. lol
2 Good looking bikes to be fair .
Such useless shilling
19 pounds for a 54/56cm? That’s not as light as I expected. Definitely need to get that into the 17’s. Honestly the ‘aero’ shtick the industry has been pushing is tired….98% of riders won’t notice a difference. T. Pog himself? Yes he would notice. The bike does have a distinctive look though. Glad that you’re enjoying it. Trek always makes solid bikes. Ride on. ☮️🤘🏻🚴🏻♂️
If you say they won’t notice when many people can notice the speed and the holding of that speed from an aero bike, the same can be said of weight. 300g of weight between a top frame and budget frame. A kilo? How many people need that kilo shaved? The aero will serve them better
I rode one and i also like it very much.what is the weight limitand is it good at climbing? thanks in advance.
I'd take the Gen 8 SL7, size M for my height at 5'6" (yeah, I'm short); your willpower was strong to adhere to the information embargo ... the new frame profiles would have drawn the attention of eagle-eyed, cycling aficionados. do you think there would be substantial price discounts for remaining Gen 7 models (if any are still available)?
Yes the Gen 6 will be sold at a discount. As a dealer there is very little margin already . The bike is about as low priced without your local dealer losing money. It's a great value
