Semper Reefing
Добавлен 7 дек 2011
Hello to all my fellow aquarium hobbyists. I am starting this channel to document the progress of my IM 50 Lagoon AIO and Aqueon 210 reef aquariums. I am a USMC veteran, hence the name Semper.Reefing (Always.Reefing), and have been in the saltwater hobby for 5 years now. I will continue to update at least once a month on both aquariums and would greatly appreciate any positive feedback!

It’s been a while since my last update video! Anyways, I’m focusing on making this a little less maintenance. Switched to Tropic Marin AFR on the bubble magus dose. 8ml/day. Using trident until I run out of agent. Added 2 Noopsyche K7 Pro IIs and very satisfied with their performance. #innovativemarine #allinone #aquarium #fish #reef #reef2reef #coralreef #mixedreef #reefaquarium #saltwateraqua...

I don’t normally show the filtration in my update videos. Here’s why, it’s in the garage.. messy right now but will be a project to clean up down the road.

Long Tentacle Anemone settles in reef tank (Time Lapse)
I'll say a school of Anthias
That is cyano and dinos on the sand. What is your NO3 and PO4?
12.6, .06. It’s all cyano I’m starting a chemi clean treatment tomorrow
I bought one of these lights and was very disappointed. As far as the color and output, it was my favorite light by far. I loved it, however it would not follow the automatic schedule I set. I did everything right. Customer service was really lacking as well and I ended up giving up on it. I'm glad to see you're enjoying them.
They really are tricky. If you still have it, I could try to help out with the setting on the schedule. I ran into the issue with my lights turning on in the middle of the night but I found the problem
These lights are underrated for sure. They look and make the tank look awesome. Thanks for sharing.
They really are! I’m curious how the newer ones are. I haven’t seen too much about them
Love this tank. looks minimal yet amazing. Great job 💯🙌👏👌
Thank you sir!!
Tank looks perfect!
Thank you! Cyano is getting worse so I’m about to fix it with some chemi clean
I fought cyano for about 9 weeks . Cleaning the substrate , vacuuming , water changes and finally gave in to using chemi clean . Didn’t want to but the “natural” battle was not going well ….
I faced the same issue in my 210, until it literally became a carpet. I used chemi clean and didn’t have any issues fortunately. I try my best to go the natural route, but I think I’m going to hit it with the chemi clean once again
To what do you attribute the great coralline algae growth? Looking for tips as I’m trying to get my coralline growth to take off.
After cycling this tank I added the pink and purple bottles of corraline spores from ARC reef. I do think it helped by introducing it. The main contributing factor is stability of Alk, Ca in my opinion.
@@Semper.Reefing Thanks; that makes sense. Sorry if you’ve shared elsewhere, but do you know what you keep Magnesium at?
@@timjohnson3913 no problem!! Happy to help. I usually aim to keep my magnesium around 1350-1400
Looks great. I’d love to eliminate 3 power supplies, the XR30’s are freaking bricks.
Man they really are. I’ve been putting off organizing all these cables…
You welcome any questions no problem been in hobby for 26 years
Keep up the videos !
Thank you for the support! Definitely will!
Too much light for most LPS. Why don’t u just put radions in middle and just turn them up ur acro are getting less light and because your radions are pushed forward there reflect off the front glass increasing par
You’re right. Maybe I’ll take the noops off and turn up the radions. I wanted to experiment with the noops to maybe reduce shadowing but after seeing my acros not getting enough light I’ve been contemplating on just taking them off. I might get a quanta helix bar to run on the back side sooner than later. Thank you for the advice!
I use that icecap stirrer as well. Currently it stirs for 1 min, once a day. During that period I stop the DOS that feeds it for an hour. One head is low volume, feeds the Kalk stirrer. The other head is RO and runs faster, but never if Kalk head is running. Kalk head stops if Alk hits 9.3. Optical sensors in sump stop both. The Kalk drips in sump, in flow. I like your setup.
I need to get set up like you. Do you find yourself cleaning the sump often from the kalk?
Looking great! Maybe some gonis?! 👏👌🙌
Thank you!! Man my friend had some beautiful gonis, so I’m definitely on the look out for some now
I’ll second the Gonis
Yellow Corse wrasse is my dream pest patrol but I have bare bottom tanks.
I would go monti caps I have some growing off the back class they plate out. Chalice is also awesome underrated if u ask me
Thank you for the feedback. I definitely want to do a plating monti maybe on either or both back corners. I just got a chalice today that I may put in the front middle. As long as it can handle 200+ PAR
Dude! I gave my fish a Kalk storm once. I think vinegar was antidote. I pulled my clowns to another tank and was grateful they ok. Turkey blaster should be fine,, do some, then do some. Change floss
I’m very surprised my Alk was only 10.1. I guess bc the large volume of water. Sounds good I think I’ll chip away at the cleaning like you said. Thanks!
I mean guys used to run alk at like 14-16. The precipitation of the minerals wouldn’t technically be bad. Would have been easier on the live stock to slowly bring the alk down, but everything looks okay now, you’ll see more in a couple weeks time. I would use a small power head or a long bristle long hand brush.
@@MylesBognerdang I had no idea they used to run it so high! I realized after doing the big water change that it probably wasn’t smart to swing it again. I woke up yesterday morning and surprisingly a lot of the minerals were gone. Been changing a lot of filter floss.
Where u live Devildog? FYI I was 2032 Paris Island
I’m in Charleston. Just got out last year! Moved up from Beaufort
Yo!
Hey your mp40 wet side is rotating! Is it loose? Might want to check that out.
Yes it does rotate and I’m not quite sure what to do! I got it in a trade and it’s pretty old. Thinking about replacing it with another hygger I got on Amazon
@@Semper.Reefingyou can buy just the base,, with Teflon post and new o-ring. You have to call Ecotech and ask, they will give the part number, then u call BRS and order just the base part. $40. I PERSONALLY have a hot glue gun that I hit the MP with after cleaning. Keeps the guard from coming off and turning my MP into a fish-ninja-blender
Dude I want a copperband,, but I have 10 tangs that are food whores. I worry it’ll get out competed…
@@Fish_Ventura thanks for this! I assumed I would have to cough up the cash for a new dry side.
@@Fish_Ventura I was a little weary at first but happy to see it eating well and getting along with the other fish
Great update. Keep them coming 👌🙌👍👏
Thanks for the support! Are you going to the Southern Aquatic Experience in Columbia this October?
@@Semper.Reefing I'm definitely going to try.
Tank looks great bud! Thanks for sharing 👏🙌👌✌
The peppermint shrimp might be eating the hammer and touch corals since there are no aphasia anemone for them to eat so keep and eye on them you might have to remove them eventually
I’ve been watching them and periodically check the tank in the middle of the night. This wall hammer has been finicky since I got it and I think it was irritated after increasing the light and flow.
@Semper.Reefing that might be the issue too but if your putting the coral on the bottom of the aquarium then that shouldn't be the problem it might be bacteria of some kind attacking the coral but keep an eye on the shrimp I've seen them eat coral in other videos on RUclips
@@puffers9will do! Appreciate the advice. Wondering how I can trap them if necessary. Maybe a simple bottle trap?
@Semper.Reefing maybe I would research it online
👏🙌👌✌️
Hello my friend, what's light on this yank?
Hi! I run 3 Ecotech XR30 Blues G5. And 3 Noopsyche k7 pro II’s
Catching fish in a reef tank is the worst ! Have to think really hard b4 dropping anything in lol. Happy reefing cheers.
No kidding!! I had to tear my 210 apart just to get a tang out!
Looking good. Good luck with the fish and QT. Just some advice, once you let it go follow and start qt on all future fish, you'll also need to QT inverts and corals. The water they come I could be carrying something too. Good luck!
Where do you keep your nitrates ? Where would you recommend i keep my nitrates in an 8 month old tank ?
Previously they ranged between 22-25. Now they stay between 10-15 and I’ve noticed better color in my LPS.
Good luck moving forward 👌🤞✌️
Good thing you were able to save the LPS, now that I think about I don’t have a backup plan incase I start having issues since I’m mostly leaning LPS. Couple weeks old exp should be that crazy, hope this isn’t another Vibrant type product.
I’m very fortunate that my 210 has matured enough to keep them happy! I think down the road I’ll give fuel another shot. I think I was unlucky with the bottle I picked up. The AV Fuel is different than vibrant being that it’s comprised of aminos and trace elements.
Very nice setup! Thanks for sharing 👏👌✌️
Thank you!!
Theres a lot of potential... look forward to its progression. Thanks for sharing 👌🙏✌️
Thank you! I’m excited to see what will unfold with this tank
You're doing great 👏
Thank you! Hit a few road bumps recently but it’s a work in progress
I hit the aphasia with calcium to melt them I just keep an eye on calcium level too
Appreciate that! I hit them with lemon juice but it didnt work.. what do you do specifically?
@@Semper.Reefing I used a regular 5ml syringe and spray them when they’re open it’ll melt them right away I haven’t seen any in my tank since then just be careful and keep an EYE ON CALCIUM LEVEL if I add to much I do a small water change and monitor it. To keep it at the level I like peppermint shrimp also went to town on them only thing is they like to pick at my rock flower and anemones so I get rid of them once theirs a little left I just hit them with calcium and I’m good for a while.
Thank you for this. I’m going to give it a shot. My trident test calcium twice a day so I’ll keep an eye on it. I was thinking about giving peppermint shrimp another shot too
@@Semper.Reefing the thing with the peppermint shrimp is you have to pretty much not feed them so they can start looking for a food source.
looks amazing 😍😍
Thank you!
looking good
Thank you!!
Goodnight
what sand are you using?
This is Caribsea Arag-alive Fiji Pink
Why is your Wall Hammer on it's side? Should you turn it up? Maybe that's why is not doing so well.
It was recently knocked on its side. I rarely put my hands in the tank until I have a small list of things to do- unless it’s an emergency. It has since been turned upright along with some Aiptasia control.
Ugh, what a douche.
What type of goby is that?
A blue spotted watchman goby. Beautiful vibrant blue spots when seen up close!
Amazing
This was a really cool time lapse to watch! Seeing the anemone plant it’s foot was really cool! Just subbed 👍🏻
thank you! i used fl studios
