St. Vartan Park
St. Vartan Park is located on the East Side of Manhattan, not too far from the Empire State Building. It is named for St. Vartan, a saint of the Armenian Church who died as a Martyr in 451 AD defending his faith. The park dates from 1904 and was cut in two for an approach street for the Queens Midtown Tunnel. The St. Vartan Park Conservancy started in 2022 to open a locked garden at the park and has since advocated for improvements and more open space in the neighborhood.

Poe Park Interviews: Roy Schwartz & Danny Fingeroth
Просмотров 51Месяц назад
Roy and Danny talked to me at Poe Park in the Bronx, where Batman was created. We talked a little about parks and Edgar Allan Poe but mostly this conversation is about comic books and their connection to the Bronx and the Jewish experience in New York during the first half of the 20th century. We met at the park on one of the co-creators of Batman, Bill Finger's, Birthday on February 8th. He wo...

The corner of Church avenue and Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, NY.
Thanks I corrected
@@PlayNYCe You are more than welcome. Flatbush and Church is where they buried the Dutch. 😵
Good day 💓
The Park Looks Alot Different Then What I Remember When I Hung Out There In The 60's!! There Was What We Called The 'Green Grass', A Fenced Off Area With What Else, 'Grass!' I Hung Out With The 'Winthrops!!' We Were A Bunch Of The Neighborhood 'Guys' Who Kept The Park 'Safe!' We Even Got Along With The 94th Preceint! No One Back Then Knew Me As 'Mike', My Nickname Was 'Mousie'. Me And My Young Friends At The Time Were Called The 'Little Winthrops'! Great Memories! Great Times! Any Body Out There Remember These Times? 😎👍🙏
Thanks for the recollection. I know some people still call it Winthrop
Love to see this stuff , great work
Thanks 👍
One Superman legend and the other a Spider-Man legend 👌
Legends indeed
May he RIP ❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Thank you all for all you gave to keep us Free ! Our veterans are the best and our Government treats them like dirt. I’m sorry to write this on here but we as a Country have to oppose what they are doing to our Hero’s.
YEAHH
The GOAT

🎉👍😊🙏☝
I thought that sentence was boutta go in a completely different direction damn it the internet has fucked me up
Great job thank you!!!❤
Cool! Better quit standing around chatting and work to get some money to do it.
That is what the rally was about as City Council and NYC Mayor determine the parks budget
Move to the country...oh yea no one to talk too...
Absolutely, use the illegal immigrants funds!
The Chinese have infiltrated NYC government. But that wouldn't be hard to do. Let's just hope they don't take over the hot dog carts!
People of Chinese descent have lived in NYC for many many generations. That joke is prejudice and not funny
@@PlayNYCe At my age everything and everyone is funny to me. Since I am neither GenZ or a millennial, my skin is thicker than most. If you can't laugh you are in a sorry state of existence. God save this country from dour, hand wringing, people full of angst and self pity who are offended by anything except a latte made with soy milk. Besides, people who are muggers have lived in NYC for generations as well. Could I make light of them, pretty please? Would that offend your sensibilities?
@@Snuffy03 I don’t understand why it has to go racial and xenophobic when it comes to this clip and you are not the only one to comment similarly
@@PlayNYCe I am a grumpy old jarhead. I see everything as am opportunity to yank some chains. I am not prejudiced against Chinese. A long time ago, I served with a group of Chinese "guns for hire" who worked for our Intelligence section. They were called called Nung. Fine soldiers who had fled communist controlled areas. They were efficient. Brave. I had nothing but respect for them. I dig at everything and everybody. Just like the old "not ready for primetime players" of SNL. So if you see a sarcastic or harsh remark from me, it has nothing to do with prejudice. It's humor to me.
really good video! i live in new york and would have never have known. love that i do now and this was so well done 💚
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I designed the playground and oversaw the construction. Wish we had saved the whale. Sorry about that! Glad so many continue to enjoy.
This was our go to park when living in Greenpoint. The new playground is fantastic
Wonderful video!
Thank you very much!
BS
Why is the RUclips community that comments often so negative?
There is no catastrophe beyond the scope of the American working taxpayer. 🤔
Don't let the weirdos in....I forgot.....they represent the weirdos.
Happy to report that I am a weirdo
Build That Park...Thanks for posting! 1% of city funding!

What a shit show.
Have the homeless camp out on the steps and shit and piss everywhere.
Elections have consequences.
Who’s the second guy?
He is president of labor union representing parks workers

Ok. It is 2024, different policies are in place. Society defended a bunch of thing and accountability went out the window. We don't need to compare, we just need to be better today at promoting good stewardship. The community, the people that live there, are the first line of defense, and they need to show respect and stewardship first. No amount of gov money will matter if the people that love there don't take responsibility.
I agree with your sentiment but nonetheless the parks department and it’s employees need more funding
Even if you take care of the park they will just make an illegal immigrant encampment
There are thousands of parks in NYC and America is a country of immigrants both legal and illegal on confiscated land. To me that comment is not helpful.
Just what we need is another climate activist😂😂😂😂
It’s her generation and my kids generation at stake
"Promo SM" 😔
You're worthless
Wow, is RUclips commenters just mean? That is what I am beginning to believe. You are not even insulting him, this is my channel. This comment is worthless with out you elaborating on your comment
Then the people that need the parks, should take care of the parks. If no one takes care of the park, it isn't used or needed, so sell the land and pay some bills.
There is no park that goes unused in NYC. Even if for illicit purposes, it is still being used
@PlayNYCe then they should take care of it. Civic duty. Rural people don't expect tax payers to take care of their yards, city people shouldn't expect taxpayers to take care of their parks.
It'll never get any better in new york as long as they keep electing democrat Communist. Do the rest of us a favor stay in new york, Either clean up your mess, or live in it. But stop coming to florida. Your communist politics are not welcome here anymore.
That’s an extreme reaction
@@PlayNYCe And probably quite foreign to you, It's called logic...
"Antifa is a myth". Surprised he isn't running off to clean out his soiled pants.
What a sell out ! This guy is the worst politician in America and the people believe all his lies and hatred of anyone who doesn’t believe him .
A strong and sound NYC Politician, rare breed😎
BLAME NYC citizens. You voted for your "leadership"???????
He is a Council Member and is speaking about delivering better
Don't you people have JOBS?
Parks nyc is worried about parks lmao k
Great information from this gentleman. I would like to hear about reopening the train station in Hunts Point.
I came out of a nightmare surrounded bt EMT’s tryma bring me back to life and I leapt up from Death’s grip & started yelling “FORDHAM!” over and over. Time travel leaves it’s paw marks on the steps of eternity.
Channeling Poe?
This man will never need sunglasses.
What park is he referring to?
Williamsbridge Oval
@@PlayNYCe Thank you! I would love to see a short video about the Joseph Rodman Drake Park and the Enslaved African Burial Ground in Hunts Point
@@hank1519i am always down for new places to explore
sounds like a tape recorder on repeat
It is important to repeat this message until people start really listening to value that parks bring to NYC every day. They are taken for granted and should not be
You did great! We love our parks, from the small ones, like Sakura, to the big ones like Pelham Bay. Thank you!
He did contribute to improving NYC
@@PlayNYCe Glad to hear it!
@hank1519 do you use Sakura Park often?
@@PlayNYCe Very often, over the years. It's a gem and much loved by the locals
Love this, not a new Yorker but I agree with this very simple and kind deed. Trees take time and are beautiful. Living in the NW I know the value they bring.
So much value, thanks for sharing
