Jazz tourism. Records. Vinyl. Record Stores. Herr Direcktor of the doc film 'The TV Show'.
Episode 2: So much footage. Weep.
Greg talks about coming to terms with the 30+ hours of footage from two cinema cameras, a drone mounted camera, and video from an online platform. He uses the word 'anxiety' a few too many times. The paper edit of the film has begun.

Episode 1: Finding Rachel
Просмотров 187 часов назад
Greg talks about his goals for launching the podcast in the first instance, an effort to document the process of making the documentary film 'The TV Show'. The film tries to unravel the complex political, emotional, and social dynamics on display on a RUclips panel program (the channel "Rachels Ghost"). Here's the short pitch for the doc film: A MAGA supporting 'trans person of colour' prepares...

Big fan of Fats Wallers early pipe organ recordings ruclips.net/video/gog2eu8hVrc/видео.htmlsi=k7-O2eZhlv81CAcy
That Bob James has Nautilus on it. Sick track that’s been sampled over 200 times by R&B artists. Vibes ARE awesome. Caught the podcast today. You really framed RG well. Anxious hear more and see how things turn out. Cheers
Thanks Marty, I'm enjoying doing the podcast. It comes out easy and helps to reflect on the process. Still need to put Bob on the TT. Stay tuned...speaking of tuneage, thanks for the tunes. Much appreciated.
that other guy should take over for you, he sure had some serious insights on the record scene in Victoria
In all seriousness though this is one of your best videos. I am flabbergasted by the bathroom story…
I'm still really confused.
Brothers be bothering. Love it.
too true.
I've always wanted to see a distant shot of the B.C. Provincial Legislature! Thanks so much! 🎉
I'm here for you Loki.
Olympia mountains. Have not gone to any record shops in Victoria. Fun video . Going to have ferry over and check some up
thanks! it's worth a visit! Beautiful town.
Looks like fun!
Dyno-print?
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I try to get over to that market a few times a year (rough trade east not far too). Liverpool Steet Station though ( not Liverpool! 😂)
haha, it's not far from Liverpool! Thanks for those directions.
Nice video, I love this kind of guided tours for vinyl records collector/travelers. I did this several times too, funny enough, about my many trips to Britain as well.
Thanks, I'll check them out! I'll probably do a video on Montreal records stores in late December! Are you there? D me and we could meet.
@@OJSeez I don't have plans for the holiday season, so I might be in town ;-)
I ‘ m based in London , always great to see visitors check out these places , Budapest , Prague and Berlin some of my favourite vinyl hunting cities
Hi, thanks for the comment. I've worked in all those cities but mostly during the CD years, so I didn't dig for Vinyl. I can imagine Berlin is awesome. My German recorded LPs are the best!
Excellent editing and storytelling reportage. Loved the little things like the fellow working on his small street painting. Oh, and the coffee break! Very natural. More of this please. I subbed BTW.
Thanks for the positive feedback! I appreciate it.
Try Arch records at Sugahill Cafe in Sydenham in se26 12-6 Tues-Sun
Hi Greg , I know all those shops but it was nice to see the footage.. I didn’t know you were heading up here ., I just happened to comment on your previous videos while you were up here .. I hope you do a trip appraisal when you get home 👍
Had to change my flight home and it was cheaper via Manchester airport. I did a bit of an overview of my trip on a live stream last week (it's still posted). I found the Manchester record stores to be very different from London and here (Toronto). Way more CDs and club music/DJ genres.
Oooo nice Bobby Hutcherson rekkids! Great video.❤🎉🎉
I messed up some camera settings on this, but thought I'd still upload it... I love Manchester.
@@OJSeez I watched it all. Looked great to me. Thanks for the virtual trip!
This was fun. Hope to see more. 🎉🎉 thanks.
Thanks Dagon! The LP cleaning oddly made it easier to rant on about the trip. Maybe I'll make that a new thread of videos. Cleaning with OJSeez!
now i see why youre called the jazz tourist, very cool!
on the road!
Hi Greg .. last time I went to London I visited Atlantis Records and as you mentioned it’s one for diggers … hopefully I’ll be returning soon .. that looked like bluetack on the back of the Archie sheep album ..
Thanks for sharing your time in London ..there’s so many record shops in London that I need to investigate.. nice book with images of the fall .. £4000!!! 😃
Thanks Rob. Checked out Manchester's Northern Quarter record shops today. Made me feel old.
Highly recommend evicting Cafe Oto while you're in London. Little Record Shop in Tottenham was also highly recommended, but has limited hours.
Many thanks for this. I seem to always miss Oto. The other shop you mention, is it Vinylly Found? They are open Th-Sat I beleive.
Thanks Dagon! Always so much fun to dig in another city!
Great video. Always interesting 🎉🎉
I loved Lublijana so much ! Unfortunately wasnt collecting at the time
What's not to love. Great food and wine too!
Hey buddy, good job! I will share my last month pain... Can you please explain me how you manage through the "new" inventory changes to "hide" and list all your items as new? It's one month now that I'm trying to figure out but still... I know that through filters you can list all items as expired but when you put them on sale again, they seem not to be listed as new (hence to appear to all those using the wantlist) Sorry for the long comment, I will really really appreciate if you share the key to my problem!
Great video. Love to see the map and locations too. Makes it extra interesting.
thanks! I'll have to do a Vancouver one soon!
Thanks for the help
Not much turnover since I was there in July
Too many way overpriced G+ graded records. Weird. But if you have time to dig in the messy Jazz section (especially for no-plastic-sleeved-LPs), then you can find some great deals.
My speculation: You were banned for promoting corduroy headwear
hmmm
Thanks ❤
Hey guys! Would love to get up on this stream but I have family in town this weekend and I need to tend to them! Love your stream!
Thanks Dr. Robert! Next time.
I thought the title was Gene Simmons, I was thinking wth?
Watched this video on the way over to Japan 3 weeks ago. Good stuff, the Face Records in the mall in Shibuya was tricky to find indeed, but man they had some heat. Will be posting my finds in the next few days probably of the whole trip. Thanks for the resource!
Send me a note when you upload your video!
Should be later today or tomorrow, feel free to subscribe 😉
Yikes, but how much were the Hat Huts in that bin?
yeah, this store is very inconsistent. I've found real deals there, but most is priced like this staple. basically x2 the max IMO.
Hell to the nah
Nice tour of Paris record stores. I visited 2 years ago and walked around and found some great jazz records at Superfly and La Dame Blanche and a couple others. Thanks
I do love the Byard. There are 2 CJs so it can get confusing. But I'm the one you messaged regarding our similar collection.
What, two CJs? Oh dear. I am confused.
Streaming the Moncur now and it sounds great! Also interested in the Dyani/Temiz collaboration you mentioned. Thanks.
Interesting video - regarding “Love Supreme” mono it is a bit of an anomaly and not a surprise that the prices were high due to mono versions being so difficult to source. Do you find Sparton pressings more readily in the bins of TO stores?
Good point, re: mono versions. Yes, I've only seen Sparton-Impulse versions in Toronto & Vancouver. But I'm sure some have migrated elsewhere.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for them!
This is great. I’m originally from Toronto but knew nothing of Spartan back then. Very interesting post.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it! Still thinking of doing a short doc film about the company, Very interesting history.
@OJseez I've started following you and watching your videos. Very good content, I just find it hard to watch due to video quality. Not sure if the camera or maybe the streaming. Keep up the work and see you live on the Jazz Bums.
Sorry I missed the stream, I was in the midst of conference business
no worries, let's plan something for the Toronto visit!
sorry i missed your show,,!
My fav artist
Left behind an OG of this. Had a bit of a blemish. But now deep regret is sinking in.
I purchased that same McCoy Tyner Japanese reissue on discogs before.
Sansui amp?
Take five 😎😎
Great session - I am a Michigander living in Chicago, but go to Detroit often. Great store recommendations - but Jeffreyl and Paul neglected to mention that you need to get a coney dog - the best place being Lafayette.
good tip! thanks.
Interesting conversation. From Michigan in the Oakland County area. I’ll be trying to listen more.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing this. Great interview! -- Mike
You bet!
OJSeez - like your channel. Really like the record store walks. Look forward to more.
Thanks.Spread the word! I had a lot of fun preparing that walk video. I'll work on some new walk videos for Toronto, Vancouver, Stockholm, London and Paris.
OJSeez - like your globe trotting vinyl buying - I have hit Paris hard as well. Did you go to Paris Jazz Corner? Sam’s? I have found over time that a lot of the stores (like everywhere) went from in store to the Discogs approach. Also it seems like the French like to overstuff their bins. Definitely go to Paris Jazz Corner.
I go to PJC all the time. It's a funny vibe there. Owner is a quiet fellow. But he seems to have his regulars that he opens up to. Still haven't been to Sam's. My favourite is Betino's and Listen!, which is just around the corner. I'll do a video soon on Paris independent shops.
I saw another video of yours on Impulse buys - I have a similar chaotic buying strategy. At any rate I feel like I am on the ground floor with your channel. Look forward to more videos. BTW I really like Houston Person up until 1973 or so. I really like the Club Mozambique show - James Jamerson and Grant Green are among a list of great players.
Thanks for the comment. Still getting used to this myself. Will have another stream up soon on my trip to Japan, followed by a stream on records I bought. Cheers.
