Stomp The Yard was the better movie but You Got Served had so much weight behind it. B-boys were still on the scene. Dance 360 was still poppin. Step up had came out before STY and after YGS, I think it kinda killed the hype a bit for dance movies by 2007. If it wasn't for Breezy it wouldn't have pulled so much

This was a great take just recently finished this movie and honestly, you hit the nail on the head lotta symbolism and you sure know a lot of knowledge from understanding different types of a occult symbolism, cinematic practices, etc. great job

I've loved this movie since it came out. Is it entertaining? Hell yeah, it's obviously ahead of it's time, stylized like a music video, very gangsta. Is it good? Like in a There will b e Blood way or even like a good hood movie ie Blood in Blood Out? HELL NO! It's like a better movie than Shottas, but the same kind of film. You won't regret watching it, I mean it is entertaining to the max, but yeah idk about good, it's a 6/10 that I have a movie poster of and bluray, and highly recommend it, but not criterion stuff lol very far from it.

This was one of my favorite Vietnam movies that influenced me to join the marine corps. Used to watch it for the combat scenes. After 3 combat tours in Iraq and some of the PTSD symptoms Anthony experienced afterward, I watch it for his experience post war. There is something comforting in it, like someone out there knows what that experience is like. I’m not black but I’m poor, migrant, minority who did not have some of the protective barriers more upper class servicemen had when they came back. The is really one of the main variables that leads some men to acquire PTSD and some not. It’s easy to reintegrate when you have resources and people who can more easily understand what you’re going through though a good education. You get a dude line me coming back to a single family home word mom depends on you to b take care of siblings when b you yourself can’t even take care of yourself and you get the story here, Dead Presidents

Terri was being a big sister to Bird, She was stressed out with her mother's sickness, paying for weddings, beauty shops, taxes on her mother's and her house, putting up her cousin who also took advantage of Big Momma and sleeping with her husband, and being Partner at her LAW Firm, Maxine felt entitled to Terri's money yet she had the nerve to pay Her husband's Lawyer to put a stop on the sell of the House

Seen this classic , after i seen boyz N the hood. It was around 2006 - 2008 so 14- 15 years old. The message of this was always a very powerful one and loved the the ending wasn't a sad but Strrong ass happy ending with reconnection, redemption & Strength. It shows the final involvement of Bobby... a man, a father but also a former gangster..redemption can happen. 10/10. 🙏🙏. Have to rewatch this one... it been a loong minute styyl. This movie came out in the '90s...at the tail end of the "blacksploitation" entertainment wave of the '90's...folks either missed this movie or the messaging went over their heads...

The complications of Black Love in the seventies was clearly explored here. Roop had to be the image of the Black man's position. Rest in Respect

Michael Rappaport sure plays a lot of racist roles. This executive, a neo nazi in Higher Learning and the mailman in Next Friday, just off the top of my head, but I bet there's more.

I always thought that Red #41 was some kin to the Wayans: he looked like Marlon to me. However, this likely isn't the case, because he is James "Speedy" Williams(a streetball player). But, Tupac's sarcasm and other dialogue was uberfunny. Other than the language and the refs horrible judging of games(so they weren't bribed in favor of the Birdmen[that could have been a reason for it] and they were just missing obvious foul calls[out of corruption/lazinesss]*), this was a solid movie: better than Meteor Man(and I like the latter)! *If they had been bribed by Birdie, you could understand it from what you saw in the movie. They weren't, though, because they began not calling the fouls when the blue team did it as well. A realistic way of handling this, from a movie perspective, would be for Birdie to have bribed the refs or threatened them and they called fouls only for the blue team. No officials are that corrupt! Still, it added to the humor!

Recommendations: American Fiction with Jeffery Wright and Marlon Riggs' documentary, Ethnic Notions (if you can find it!!!).

This movie could've been made tomorrow and be relevant. It's amazing.

Those WERE actual crime scene photos of real dead bodies in the opening credits but not during the movie. Denial has avoided X ratings and out right banning of films such as the DP scene in Nymphomaniac, where the director lied and stated the lower body of the actress being double penatrated was a prosthetic, where later it was learned the actors were actually having sex.

I honestly think that stomp the yard would have been better being a short film about two brothers who allegal gambling dancing played by columbus short and Chris brown i think the main plot really feels it was written at the last minute it feels so half assed and unedded 😅

Remember seeing this in the theatres as a kid. The theatre was packed because of Kadeem's popularity. When this came out, he was still starring in A Different World. For its budget, this movie had a great cast. My only complaint would be that Kadeem didn't get enough screen time in opinion. Fun Fact: James Bond III who played Joel is married in real life to the lady who played the satanic devil, Cynthia Bond.

I have watched several TVs depicting whites with their parents until 30...or older... Dallas in the 80s ... Duke's of Hazard... All soap operas 😆... Black men are considered bums tho... wow

My biggest takeaway from this movie is Terri should've cut the so-called family off years ago. With a family like that, who needs enemies? When she went away to college, she should've never looked back. The way that the mama allowed Maxine to continue a relationship with her sister's ex and just accepted him into the family, disregarding the affect this could/would have on Terri is a problem for me. 🤷🏽‍♀
