The Rogue Valley Flyers is a remote control model aircraft builders and pilot's club, founded in 1976 and serving Josephine County hobbyists since. Our field, Grants Pass Sky Park, is located off Upper River Road- about 3 miles west of Grants Pass. Grants Pass Sky Park features a 550' road-cloth covered runway, 6 model prep tables, 5 runup tables, shaded picnic tables, and an FAA FRIA to fly in! We welcome all RC enthusiasts. Membership in both RVF and the Academy of Model Aeronautics is required. Guest AMA members are welcome. Rogue Valley Flyers is AMA Chapter #1408!
RVF Sky Park Flights - Oh Crap, the Runway's Flooded!
The Story:
After 4 3/4" of rain in 12 hours, only the latest in a month of this crud, I saw a patch of blue sky, and headed for the Rogue Valley Flyer's Grants Pass Sky Park, only to find the entire field flooded and the road in, impassable! So... parked by the compound a quarter mile away, broke out the FPV Goggles, 2.1m EDF Glider, and my folding chair, and prayed I could do my 1-wheel Take-off thing on that skinny dirt road paralleling the irrigation ditch, without veering into the ditch, and later actually land on said road!
Hell be damned, this just had to be tried! And after a hairy take-off featuring wheel-up about a foot before the ditch, I was off to find the Sky Park!

FPV Flying the Grandkids

I'm sitting here growing moss around the ears from a month of rain, but with charged batteries, ready to fly 'cuz they said better weather.... and... its pouring. So, I dove into the archives from last summer to reassure myself that the rains aren't eternal and came up with this one... Put the FPV goggles on the grandkid and took him for a virtual ride in sunny blue warm skies! The weight of th...

RVF Club pilot John B built this beautiful scale Slingsby T-31 Cadet Sailplane from scratch, using a 3D Printer, some glue, and a lot of love! The Slingsby T-31 is a Glider and training aircraft, however this model is modified to include a hidden popup EDF motor to get her up in the clouds! This was the Maiden Flight of John's homebuilt Slingsby T-31 Cadet, and when she wasn't gliding, she was ...

The FPV Learning Journey continues... Landing a glider with any wind is always interesting, but I finally have multiple safe (in one piece) landings flying through the goggles! Anyway, this flight was fun because a Turkey Vulture joined up for some thermal soaring partway through! We did a couple laps, then I climbed out, but that was fun! OK... probably last of these videos until I find someth...

RFV Sky Park Flights - B17 Flying Fortress
Wow, I thought it was bad at my house along the rogue river, I hope all the stuff in the container is ok, thanks for this video
Wow!! Thank you Art for this video. At first, I thought someone was in a kayak but it was the new wind sock.
Anyone down for a float fly :)
That was a little different flying than I had planned on! Took me forever to fly from the farm compound to the airfield, and it just didn't register in my mind how much wind I was fighting! Parked there because otherwise I'd have to back all the way out if I drove on out to where it was flooding out of the ditch by that crossroad. Then when I set down on the runway, decided I wasn't walking all that way, so moved the van down there and trudged the rest of the way through the water! And DAMN it was COLD!
Something is plugged up! THANKS Art for the video.
Well actually, something needs to GET plugged up! The water's all coming out of the irrigation ditch, which is (was?) overflowing just SE of the DG pile, and just on the other side of the runway. Question is, where will it go and how long will it take to get there!!!
Nice video Art. I can't wait to FPV..
Another winner of a video, Art! FPV flying is the bomb. A great way to get kids involved! I hope the sun will be on the horizon soon!
Good to hear from ya, Steve! Hope life's good in the Golden State!
Great flight, she really is a very nice power glider, great landing....jeff.
Looks sweet John. Hope to see you soon out there when I come back to visit.
Very nice flight John 👍
Nice flying plane! The runway looks like it is holding up really well too!
Awesome flight! I usually fly warbirds, but it seem like that thing had almost endless vertical. I could tell you were cutting it so you could stall and do maneuvers.
..... and THAT, folks, is how its done!!! WOW! Here's a thought... Maybe take 30 seconds to log in to Google/RUclips, then punch the Thumbs-Up LIKE button on this one! Can't hurt to show Ken a little love after a show like that!!!
Watching this Slingsby soar illustrates just how relaxing and therapeutic RC Flying can be! I'll bet the gratification of seeing her soar after all the hours of painstaking building is off the charts!
That’s sweet
Don't get to see many Maidens of "built from scratch" models these days! This was really exciting! Loved the trolly for runway takeoffs... could just see it drop off as she started climbing! Great building, John, and great piloting Stan!!!
Great Flying Aaron! That was a lot of fun to see... beautiful plane too!
Has anyone else been silly like me added the edf run that on a little 5s 1500 and seperate esc but also keep prop run that on a 4s 2250 what a weapon 75mph plus 😂 9s powered swift is lots of fun and has no end of going vertical
I’m coming back out there soon to fly with you guys again.
Nice video Art..
Kind of a lazy, boring flight, huh? NOT!!!!!!!!! THEIR WASN'T A BOARD INDIVIDUAL IN THE WHOLE PLACE! WOW!
Excellent job filming and editing this vid Art. Thanks to all the guests that showed up and put on an amazing display of piloting. You can watch videos all day but there's nothing quite like seeing it happen right in front of your face!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for the kind words everyone, and thank you to the Rogue Valley club for being such a great host and such down to earth people!
Very nice to see Oliver getting some of his flying videoed and edited in this high of quality !! Great camera work, please tell me this was done with more than a cell phone, it looks amazing.
I'd love to tell you it wasn't a cell phone... but it was! iPhone 14 Pro Max. I have a "real" video camera, but its impossible to keep planes in frame with its tiny view screen. The large screen on the "Max" version iPhone's helps greatly. The silly thing claims to video in 4k. On the one hand, that makes serious focusing near impossible, especially against solid blue sky, but on the other hand, if video is shot in 4k there's a lot you can do with it during the editing passes!
@@RogueValleyFlyers-Video I knew I was going to end up even more disappointed in my Pixel 8 pro lol.
I'm been thinking about picking one of these up. Trying to decide between this and the AtomRC Swordfish. I don't need any of that GPS autopilot stuff, but I do have an extra O3 Air Unit to make use of. Both planes look really nice. Cheers for the video.
This was my first attempt at building out and flying fixed wing with FPV. I was just videoing on this one, but have since flown her completely via the goggles, and its incredible! I didn't do the Flight Controller thing, although I have that on my future project list. I absolutely love this Swift 2100 with EDF. Before FPV its a great glider, but WITH FPV, the EDF propulsion allows you to take off like a normal plane, which is much easier with FPV than attempting a hand launch. Without an FC, I chose to use a Spektrum AR8360T receiver, which gives me Vario, Barometer, and 8+ channels. Put the Vario on a switch as always, and set the transmitter to give verbal altitude updates every so many seconds. That helps compensate for not having the OSD telemetry that a FC provides. Used a TallyHo head tracker on Avatar Goggles X. The gimble that sells as an add-on option with this glider is functional, but the pans are pretty rough due to cheap servos. Plan to switch over to a MotionSic to make sight seeing more pleasant from up there!
Man I get a chill down my spine everytime I watch the part where he dusts the sun! What a sight to see!
Now THAT's biplane madness! Gorgeous plane, phenomenal flying!
OLIVER MAKES THAT "BEAST" LOOK LIKE A TOY!
A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO THE PHRASE WOW!🤯
THE BEST FROM ONE OF THE BEST! AWESOME JAY!
Oliver, that was the most amazing flight I have ever seen, such precision in your maneuvers, wow, thanks for coming to our event
WHAT A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR GREAT BIPLANE MADNESS IV EVENT! BIPLANES GALORE AND TREATING THE SKY'S WAS BUD LIBERATORE IND HIS AWESOME STARDUSTER BIPLANE. THANK YOU BUD! THIS IS A PART OF THIS SHOW THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOE YEARS! 😁🙌
IF I WASN'T PERSONALLY THERE TO WITNESS THIS MYSELF, I WOULDN'T HAVE BELIEVED IT! FUNNY. HE'S NEVER FLOWN AT OUR FIELD, THIS WAS HIS FIRST FLIGHT OF THE DAY, AND DIDN'T HAVE A STITCH OF PRACTICE. I'D SAY WE JUST WITNESSED "A NO FEAR NATURAL" THAT DAY! THANK YOU OLIVER. NOT ONLY ARE YOU A GREAT FLYER, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, A GREAT GENTLEMAN ALSO!👋✌👏😀
What a sweet plane! Great flying, Jay!
All I could say after watching Jeremy fly that thing was... holy cow!!!! What a show!
Great footage of great flying! Very enjoyable. And my compliments on the music not being louder than the airplanes. Good mixing.
One of these days I'd love to make it down there to fly at your field!
Come on down! Make it a tour... you can fly at Eugene's field, Roseburg's field, Grants Pass Skypark, and finish up at Rogue Eagles airfield by Agate Lake! Its the I-5 Flying Circuit!

Good video. I wish Ashland had a club like yours. You seem to be open to electric aircraft, unlike another Rogue Valley club near here. If you were closer I would definitely join. I'm sure my flying could improve being around the very accomplished members seen on your video.
If you have an AMA card you're sure welcome to come visit and fly!
Great work pulling this event together, Steve and RVF!!! I honestly can't say which part was my favorite... Oliver Willis' world class 3D piloting skills? Bud and StarDuster doing a Smoke Pass by the Sun? Jeremy Hewitt's insane method of torturing the videographer with his amazing and totally unpredictable Helicopter flights? Or the great company and cool Biplanes from all the RC pilots visiting from neighboring clubs!
Biplane Madness IV, another, great successful event is in the books! Great video by the best, Mr. Art Brest! Thanks for all that attended!
It makes our field into a top notch facility now! Well worth all the effort! A+👍🏻😎
Yup. Those stripes are just the right size for visibility, speed, and depth perception when seen from FPV!
How is the fabric working?
So far, EXCELLENT! We have been through significant wind storms, and hit the high '90's temps, and its great. The Stripes that we recently added help TREMENDOUSLY with FPV piloted landing efforts by providing depth and speed perception visual references!
@@Brestae Nice. You guys did a great job laying it out.
Very Nice Chris!
Smooth!!! Nice flying!!! The devil on one shoulder just told me “oh yeah… go buy a Draco right now…”. And, the angel on my other shoulder just leaned over and said “you know damn well buying that plane won’t magically make you able to fly that well”!!! 😅 Then the devil cupped his hand and whispered to me “Dude, that $629 Draco is on sale for under $500 for one week only….” And that’s why I have so many planes!
Very nice
WOW, That is about the coolest video Art. Loved you following Chuck in his Turbo Timber. Very well done.
Awesome job guys!
Very cool, wind proof?
So far, so good! We've had some very gusty afternoons and its holding well! The perimeter is stapled down about every 12" all the way around, so there's nowhere for the wind to get under it. What happens after the ground freezes hard then thaws, well, we'll see! Probably will push the staples up a bit, so hopefully hammering them back down will suffice. One thing's certain.... its a hundred times better to fly off of than the old DG surface was!
