Porsche Cayenne 4.5 cylinder bore issues

Engine knock from piston slap due to excessive cylinder wear. Not the sound you want to hear after a month prepping for first start 💸 The theory is that this is more prominent in the colder regions, especially for a vehicle that's typically stored outside instead of inside (SUV vs say a smaller 911).

Awesome!
Nice, in addition to the CAI and long tube headers, it looks like the SC pulley was changed out too. Probably has a tune, unless it’s the MWR nose cone/pulley that’s one step lower that they say doesn’t need a tune (didn’t get a good look at it). Fun watching the rebuild series, good luck!
Too funny. I actually confirmed today that it has a 66mm MWR pulley. BOE also stated it's a custom tune that they did for the PO and should be good for 60-70hp over stock. Super excited to see how it does, and this is pretty much at the limits of what I was going to do anyway!
Hello! Hp? Thanks
With the modifications FVD Brombacher stated it was around 630hp crank
@ 0-100, 0-200 thanks
@@robertkulcsar9694 sold the car shortly after that video was taken. I did 11.7s in the 1/4 the first time ever launching it, so use that to extrapolate

Always good to be informed 😁
why would you scope a 22k engine ?? was there signs of trouble
@@tomthompson7400 a few reasons. Out of abundance of caution due to it sitting for 2.5 years, not knowing the history at all, and as a sanity check to make sure there were no unexpected issues (scoring, bad valves, water ingested) before I spend the money on restoring a car with a troubled engine.
@@Ilovebaddesigns id have turned it over with a spanner , bunged a battery on and give it a whirl ,,, its a Toyota but no harm in being cautious .
@@tomthompson7400100%, in retrospect that would have been totally fine. But...is it weird to say I scope and sample the oil of every project car I get in order to have a baseline? 😁
@@Ilovebaddesigns well your the one with a lotus ,,, so it cant all be wrong ,,, Ive an aygo and im looking at an evora next I think ,,, or a vantage
@@tomthompson7400 I had a lotus elise/Exige/Evora/emira as a dream car for a long time because you get essentially supercar performance and Toyota reliability. Seeing everything else out there, these models made the most sense. Bonus points for the Evora being a comfortable everyday car as well, so without even getting to drive this one yet I recommend looking into them 😁
I’m all in on watching this lol. I’m excited to see what the end result is.
@@Stylesclashxx I don't think anyone's more excited than I am 😅 Having a Lotus has been a dream since Gran Turismo on the OG PlayStation!
I really enjoyed this. It felt like the old days back in the garage with you.
@@mrbigalbass you're welcome to stop by anytime 🤗
No doubt you will bring this car back to life and probably better than stock. Have fun!!
"Better than stock" are words I live by, so you can bet on that :)
Epic! This has the potential to be so awesome!!!
I'm going to be investing pretty heavily in this one, so it certainly will be awesome :)
My good God. What a thing. I have a 400 hp modified daily, but I think "your" 400 hp is more. Sounds amazing and looks excellent to drive, you shift without any fuss, just like it's OEM.
Thanks! It was a wonderful build and I owned it proudly for 14 years. Just recently sold on Bring a Trailer, and now replaced with my new Lotus Evora S project. Also building a high HP Audi S4 this winter. Feel free to follow along now that I have new video gear coming in. 👍
@@Ilovebaddesigns Very cool, I've got a 2017 stage II S3. I have to recommend a mod to you - sound deadening with the correct materials - CLD, MLV, and CCF. It's easy, as you take apart areas of the car, add it in. Along with uprated poly in the suspension and engine/trans mounts, it's a great and weird sensation. The whole car feels like it vibrates as a unit instead of here and there. I can hear the trans whine a bit, but it's so damped sounding. Stereo is hugely elevated, if you care about that like I do. I added about 150 pounds to this daily driver, haha. An Evora...you have excellent taste in cars!
@@justingallagher4864 really appreciate the recommendations, and I'll incorporate them in the build for sure! I've used foil+tar sound deadening and foam thermal barrier in one of my last builds with great success, so was on the list anyway. And I'm totally fine with the little bit of extra weight for reduced NVH if that means I can take a conference call in transit without having to scream 😁 Already have stiffer sway bushings on the way. Will check out poly options for the drivetrain as well. There's a mix there between NVH and losing molars, though, so I'll probably stick somewhere around 60a if possible. Although I'm not an audiophile, per se, I do appreciate the fact that this one has the upgraded Audio package. I saw a small 200w alpine class d mono sub and paired sub in the rear passenger side panel. Need to make sure that at least that is sealed properly when things are going back together 👍
Congrats! I looked at that car but it was pretty far away from me so I passed on it. I hope you got a great deal on it!
Got it for an alright price, but man it's a lot rougher than I anticipated. Sitting exposed to the elements didn't do it any favors 🥴
@Ilovebaddesigns I was assuming there was damage to the subframe seeing that one wheel pointed the other way. At least on the Evora, that is replaceable!
@@mlgshadow92 you're absolutely correct. Power steering was cracked in half, and subframe is too bent to trust. I'm taking footage and will have some more updates coming soon detailing the carnage and rebuild. Feel free to follow along!

I have a 96 f150 with the 4.9l. I'm not planning on deleting the smog pump because of OBD 2 computer system. What size belt would be needed to accommodate the smog pump and A/C for Saginaw conversion?
get a paracord and tie it to the alternator case or something to hold it, then route it on the belt routing, and then meet the end you tied back up on the routing, and then find where they meet(cut exess or mark with a marker, then measure that
What was the torque?
About 420tq 👍
@@Ilovebaddesigns that's very good power/torque. I got a '13 q7 with a JHM stage 1 ECU/TCU and I am waiting for the 207mm crank pulley for that dual pulley ratio and stage 2 tune. Hoping it's gonna be a noticeable bump in power/torque vs stage 1
@@alekseynoga5942 I've done plenty of these 3.0Ts at this point. The 207mm pulley with stock SC pulley is ideal for street driven IMO, and the power bump is very nice. This b8.5 had a similar ratio and was hands down one of the most insane I've ever owned. Have a b8.5 sq5 for the wife right now and of course went stage 2+ for that one as well....just too much fun.
How did you get a loud sound for the turbo’s? is it only a down pipe or you have other modification?
Just the catless downpipes with stock PSE
I’m about to do this mod right now, what down pipes did you go with and did you get any check engine light?
I have the same question as Damian too!
@@damianesteban5123 sorry for the late reply. Fabspeed catless but no CEL with Brombacher tune.
Are these the 4k downpipes?
I guess they're around that. Got a good deal on them from a friend 🙂
Is the msm manifold a bolt on ?
Yep
I just did this today. It appeared as if I had the same bracket as the OP, but it was different I believe (but almost exactly the same). I had to use a Sawzall to cut away a slot in the bracket on the truck for the bottom portion of the pump itself in order to get the bolt holes to line up. Then for the bolt holes I had to waller out each hole to get the bolts through the bracket to the pump. Kind of a pain in the ass. Pretty sure i took off too much material for the bracket to be structurally sound enough to hold the pump so I will probably end up using the bracket I got from a 92 e150 along with the pump and pulley. I just wanted to avoid tearing the ac compressor and the old bracket off the truck. 95 ford f150, 4.9l, 5 speed.
Unrelated to the Saginaw pump swap but I noticed your truck didn't build oil pressure for a few seconds which makes the engine knock a few times. I had the same problem with my truck after changing the oil due to the design of the anti-drainback valves in some oil filters and the oil filter being mounted horizontally instead of vertically like most engines. I have tried wix and O'Reilly microgaurd filters and they both have this problem when they are mounted horizontally. I have used FRAM ultra synthetic and it fixed this problem along with motorcraft.
My 96 2WD seems to have the same bracket as yours. Interestingly seems like a lot of people have a different bracket. Going to try this soon, thanks for posting the video. Why did you go with the 4.3 pump and pulley instead of one from a van? Is it the same one?
Hey, yeah I guess I didn't realize how many variations there were. I only went with the 4.3 because the e150 4.9 variants were impossible to find around me.
@@Ilovebaddesigns thanks for responding so quick. Do you think I could just buy a new E150 pump then and bolt it up?
@@rohankoripalli maybe.... It's been awhile since I went through this but I think I also recall the 4.3 being same or similar to the e-150 Saginaw model after extensive cross-referencing. Worth checking rockauto perhaps
@@Ilovebaddesigns Thanks I'll check it out
Sounds similar to an AMG
Sounds like a star wars blaster lmao
I have the 4.9 95 4x4 as well and your bracket for the pump is completely different than mine.
Maybe your truck dosnt have a/c so the brackets are different?
This doesn’t work on a 1988 model... Ask me how I know...
Oh wow, that sucks. What was different?
@@Ilovebaddesigns What is the measurement between the center mounting holes on your set up? I have a 1994 F150 4.9L with stock a/c bracket and the holes are 3 3/4” but the Saginaw I got off of a E150 mounting holes are 4” apart.
@@Ilovebaddesigns the factory steering pump bracket and bolt pattern is completely different, and the low pressure pump line is too short. If you notch the bracket, drill your own holes, and get some extra pump line material, you could probably make it work. But the bracket is cast aluminum, I wouldn’t risk it.
FYI, I just did this and any old Saginaw pump does work. My 11/16 fitting bolted up just fine. The return had to be bent as my pump was from a 2000 Dodge Dakota with their V6. My pulley was from a 2006 Chevy Impala SS. Very similar to the one you used. Of course, you will need to do the same washer game to get it lined up right. I had to bypass my AC for the time being until I get some more cash for a new belt. The part number you reference for the pulley, is basically anything from the 90-2000s that had a Saginaw power steering pump on it. Thank you for the great video too BTW. I too am very pleased with the results.

@@evilmonstar2113 I know I had to hog out one of the holes a bit to get mine to bolt up. If you got a fair bit of meat on there, it won't harm anything.
@@marshallnoise3557 yep that what I had to do as well
What trans are you running?
Rebuilt and reinforced world class T5. Holding up so far, but time will tell.
@@Ilovebaddesigns Good stuff, man!
How much power on stage 3.. and is the speed governor removed with the tune?
Supposedly 300hp/315tq, and it felt about that. Didn't go much over 100 so no idea about the limiter, but if you're thinking about tuning your car JUST DO IT. The transformation is totally worth it.
Very nice! If it wasn't so hot outside it would have been even better. 500 reliable hp is solid.
Yeah man, it's winter here (24f right now) and the power difference is very noticeable. Would love to redyno for new numbers :)
@@Ilovebaddesigns yeah I found even with upgrading the cooling the dino fans aren't capable of keeping temps low enough to prevent timing from being pulled. 500 crank hp is still no joke tho
Good setup👍 Just wondering if this Gt2871r is water cooled and if so, what's your setup for the water feed.
Yes sir, wet center housing. Water was tapped off the small Barb at the back of the block on the left side, and ran to the IAC. Basically, just stick the water lines in between the IAC and what's feeding it..simple!
Excellent power !
Can you drop links for the pump and the pulley please
Follow-up on this - tried 4 different exhaust systems on the car and they all droned like a mother, including the AERO V6 exhaust. Was so bad I sold the car out of disgust. Can't recommend aftermarket exhaust on the B207L or B207R...however, the 2.8 sounds badass.
Krona exhaust with the resonator and muffler sounds great. 0 drone, its actually so quiet i have an electric dump.
Hoping you can get back to me ASAP! So that’s a stock bracket just notched, 4.3 pump with a different pulley and different belt? Also washers to line up the belt and pulley?? My pump just died on me so thinking I might do this today
Also is that a non ac bracket?
Hi Eliseo - stock bracket that was already on the truck, with AC... probably works without AC as well but would use a different size belt I'd imagine. Measure the belt route with a piece of string and get a couple of sizes +/- to find one that fits. Get a bolt that fits the pump and use washer to align - I think I used 3 or 4 washers total. 5k miles since doing this video, and no issues. High pressure line needed a bit of tape sealant to prevent leak.
Seems like you'd have pretty good driveability with that little turbo on there. How is it on the street? Could you daily this setup?
Well, I sold that car probably 8 years ago, but it was my daily for the time I owned it. Installing an mfactory LSD helped with the traction issues, and my only real reliability gripe is that I snapped axles every few months.
That is amazing lol
Needs an actual exhaust lol stock = junk.
