Just wondering since I’m planning on moving to Apollo beach later next year, How do the houses in the area hold up during hurricanes? Really curious given that a lot more hurricanes have happened in Florida recently.
Hello, homes in Apollo Beach are generally built to withstand hurricanes, especially newer constructions that follow Florida’s updated building codes, which include impact-resistant windows and reinforced roofing. However, being a coastal area, some homes may be more vulnerable to flooding, so it's essential to check if the property is in a flood zone and consider flood insurance. Many residents also install additional protections like hurricane shutters to further safeguard their homes during storms. You can check FEMA's flood maps for Lakeland or visit the Polk County website to search if your property is in a flood zone. I lived there for 24 years and just moved to Ohio. My taxes were going up so bad in Florida, insurance way to high. I don't miss the heat and the fire ants but I do miss the area bad. So many things to do it would blow peoples minds. I do want to move back but in a condo and we know how that is going right now. I'll wait till the voting and condo mess is over with but I would say we will be back. I got your info. LMOL I lived in Denver for 5 years, Englewood.

Irma, that was the worst hurricane that I have experienced here and I have lived here most of my life, the only one I remember far worse was back in like '89. So usually hurricane are not big deal. Also, in addition to the beaches, I am not sure you guys are aware of is the island's, Three Rooker Island and Caladesi Island. Both I believe have ferry services throughout the day it's def worth the trip.
