What kind of tips are you looking for? Usually with my students, we work on managing the air to play long, beautiful phrases in the Aria. And then in the Rondinella it's all about using efficient finger movements and lots of consistent practice. Keep your fingers close to the keys and practice at a speed that allows you to play accurately, and never let the fingers move faster than your brain! Then once you are comfortable with all the notes, you can start increasing tempo if you like. Hope that helps!

@@mediskyoboestudio9277 Thank you! I'm not sure if this makes a whole lot of sense but do you have any advice for making the tone/style more flowy and light? I can play most of the notes fine but when I record myself and listen back it feels very 'heavy' and not as graceful... Not sure if thats very clear lol but anything is appreciated

@@booktionary--4276 If you're talking about the fast part, then I would suggest practicing it all slurred and making sure your air is moving consistently through all the notes so that everything is connected and even. Then add the tongue, but don't play staccato yet! Use a very gentle (legato) tongue, and make sure your embouchure and jaw aren't moving to create the articulation. See if you can get the graceful sound you want with consistent air and a gentle tongue. Then play it as written and see if you can maintain the same gentle, controlled approach. If you notice extraneous movement then that could make it sound heavier and not connected. Does that make sense? :)

@@mediskyoboestudio9277 Thank you soooooo much!!! This really helped. One last thing if you don’t mind, how did you make some of the longer notes go in and out? Like for example the third note, f sharp, you sort of made it ‘waver’ I’m not really sure how to describe it, but how did you do that?

You're welcome! Glad that was helpful :) What you're talking about on the longer notes is called vibrato. It's a small and quick fluctuation in pitch, but it's a bit much to explain here. I don't have any instructional videos, but I'm sure you can find someone else explaining it! Just make sure you never use your embouchure to do it. Some instruments do it that way, but oboes never should. Good luck!

No bother! A good oboe and quality reeds are a good place to start when it comes to sound. Then it's all about air and embouchure. And years of practice :) It's been on my to-do list to make some instructional videos, but I have no timeline so don't hold your breath for those! In the meantime, I hope you're enjoying the oboe!
