3D printer cutting styrofoam like CNC router
Просмотров 29 тыс.3 года назад
Making Styrofoam Mount Everest 3D map. Full step by step instruction for unusual Ender 3 mod. It shows a way to use 3D printer as CNC router cutting foam with hot metal rod. G-Code is generated using Autodesk Fusion 360 CNC software. Video shows how to modify G-Code to make it work with Ender 3. More styrofoam 3D carving videos are coming soon. I am going to focus on 2 sided carving to use this...

    now that is very inventive and a great option for many!

    Genius idea! Great achievement and great pedagogy as well! Thank you Sir! It's pretty inspirational. I had a similar idea (without implementing it the clever way you did) years ago but using paraffin wax with of course less hot probe. I'll give a try soon and I'll post here the video of it if you don't mind. Incredible skills! From choosing the right "equivalent" in Fusion360, to modifying the G-code accordingly... Hat off! You do know what you do!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

      Thanks. Good luck with paraffin version. Feel free to post your progress here.

    Have you tried to insert shaped wire as a hotend? It could speed up the process.

    What a great idea 👍 You could have printed an 'extension' for the Z gantry instead of lengthening the limit switch 😀

    how does fusion 360 know where the heated rod is located?

    • @creativityrocks7142
      @creativityrocks7142 Год назад

      Fusion does not know. Fusion only knows dimensions of the rod. There is a starting position set in gcode and following sequence of positions/moves

    Sometimes the RUclips algorithm truly delivers. This is awesome. I have an aging CR-10 that doesn't get much use anymore that I might try this out on.

    Amazing . I have Creality CR-10s I want to implement like you, but I am weak in programs. Do you have any advice please?

    • @creativityrocks7142
      @creativityrocks7142 2 года назад

      GCode containing set of moves and commands for tools is quite similar. In the video i am clearly showing and describing what modifications to gcode are needed to work with ender 3 3d printer. I guess CR-10 and ender 3 gcodes will be quite similar. Please generate simple 3d printing gcode e.g. from Cura of the same model for cr10 and ender 3. You can compare files.

    Have you tried doing a rough cut first and then doing a finish cut the opposite direction?

      I have not tried this, but I find your idea really good. I will definitely try it. Purpose was to build fancy wings for flying models. After cutting (twice?), model can be smoothen with sandpaper.

    I think a better modification may be mounting sensor and heater capsule directly to the rod. Would just need a proper attachment to the X carriage.

    • @creativityrocks7142

      Fusion 360 is free of charge for hobby kind of use at least for a year. I am sure there is a lot of other soft too, but I did not try yet.

      A easy CNC program? I could suggest Plasticity. It's free to use for 30 days, then it's hundred bucks, but then it's yours forever. No service subscription or cloud. And it's really easy to learn.

    very interesting, I had think this and did find your video, cool. an ask, if the diameter in the tool be smaller, the quality be highting?

    • @creativityrocks7142
      @creativityrocks7142 3 года назад

      Reducing diameter may require slowing down to avoid pressure and bending the rod. Too small diameter will transfer less heat, so heat may run away before reaching the working end of a rod. You need to experiment. Maybe you will have to shorten the rod. Changing shape to conical may also improve precision.
