Art, Nostalgia, and Capturing Moments in the Punk Rock Scene | Ep 208 w/ poet/writer, Andrea Janov
In Episode 208 of The Popko Project Podcast, we dive into the gritty, nostalgic heart of Wilkes-Barre’s punk scene with poet Andrea Janov, who’s bringing the vibe of the city’s DIY shows, late-night dives, and raw emotion straight to the page. Her book Mix Tapes and Photo Albums isn’t just poetry; it’s a coming-of-age soundtrack in verse, laid out in Side A and Side B just like the mixtapes that defined our youth. We dig deep into the power of music to connect, heal, and preserve stories, with each chapter reading like a track on an album and each photo a snapshot of wild memories and friendships.

No clue why my comment from a few days ago is not on here. I had said that I love the 3 songs Jake picked as faves, but might really like "Need Your Love," "Go For Gold," and of course, "One Last Breath" the best. I also had not known that "Sail" was a cover, one of my favorites. I also recall writing that Autumn Kings and MONO INC were my favorite bands for several years due to issues Jake discussed on here of rising up and above. I would truly love for Autumn Kings to cover "Flies" by MONO INC, which seems tailor made for Joe's voice and would love to hear how Troy would do Katha's drums. I would also truly love to have Tilian, who I love who they are touring with, cover MONO INC's "Right for the Devil" and "Together Till the End." I see nothing controversial about this comment or my previous one and have no clue why it was removed.
Hi. I certainly didn’t remove it and don’t ever recall seeing it. Regardless thanks for coming back and sharing!
@thepopkoproject Yeah, no problem. A RUclips bot must have gone haywire or something. 🤣😆
@@jessbennett828 Appreciate you checking it out!
Was a pleasure !!! 🤝
This video should be titled "how not to do an interview." Are you seriously playing sound bites while hes talking? Wtf.
lol that’s because yall try to make everything fucking gay
Complete lier
No way! This is awesome. Congrats.
Thanks! It was a quick 30 mins but I’m grateful to have had the opportunity!
Huge!
🙏🏻
Killing it boys!!!! Great interview, Johnny!
Thanks for checking it out!
Just saw you guys tonight, (one step closer record release party) awesome show and great interview! Best of all to you!
This is great. My father in law sent me this song last week. We bought a house in Shickshinny the day covid shut Pennsylvania down. Love the area and the people.
Thanks for checking it out!
Great show, everyone 🙂
Thanks for checking it out! These guys are so good!
"is it disrespectful to the cardboard cutout or the real one?" HAD ME DYING. I love them, one of my favorite bands.
Ned is so cool.
Kira is one of my favorite humans. Great interview.
Very inspired by Glitterer you have an old guy fan for life
It’s so weird I was a big part of the hard-core scene and the nine days to the early 2000s and a local band. These guys started it right after we left and I moved to Philadelphia but I had heard of Title Fight and I knew they were local about two weeks ago. I went to see quicksand in Philadelphia and some band called glitters opening. I just so happen to go with my drummer from the old days who informed me that the singer for glitter was title fight, and it made such a huge impression on me that show Ever since I’ve been just diving deeper into his music I really really like the direction these guys are had it in and I think as artist they really think like I do. I also got to step up and it’s weird to see the local scene still alive in a while and it’s very DIY at a local donut shop in Wilkes-Barre, all of the places we played like the staircase, the factory, Midtown arcade, Edwardsville, hose company, jitterbugs, etc. are all closed and I’m so happy that these guys are so proud to be from the area. My brother who is our bass player had a Pitton tattoo on his back back then it still doesrespect to these guys and title fight
I’ve always loved title fight been a fan since the Kingston EP and everything that the band did was amazing. Every album was different and they really start to grow and change around floral green and they definitely made a different album with hyperview. I still listen to all of their stuff to this day and it still sounds just as good as it did when it came out
mike tyson’s punch out from nintendo: now you’re playing with power
I miss title fight…we need it back right now
Great interview; learned a lot!
Thanks for checking it out!
I was absolutely thrilled when i learned Glitterer were playing with Quicksand, but then learned its only on the east coast. Still beyond stoked to see Quicksand again
😍 P R O M O S M
please please please please avoid playing random background music during interviews? its so random and can not hear NED >:/ nor you at that !!
It was a post production error. It wasn’t noticed till after it was posted and instead of deleting it and lose those who already interacted by leaving comments, we decided to leave it up. Sorry about that!
@@thepopkoproject its ok just for future gonna sub on main account hope you get more awesome interviews! this one was very needed, our old friend ned!<3
@@thepopkoprojectI bet that will teach ya to double check before rendering. 😂 (I would have re-posted. Ned is too legendary, but that's just my opinion)
@@flaminghead1va that’s a fair assessment
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Good stuff 👍
I think I'm an Old Dagger too now. 😅 I relate to so much of what you said. And nice shirt Chris! Also I heard the nice things you said about my band but then u said about yourselves-- "We may not be theatrical " in relation to us. When every person in the band is playing an instrument you can't move around as much. Its hard enough to sing and play an instrument. You have great fucking music, and that soul. Music feels different when people pour their soul out. You guys got it, and the hooks. Can't wait to buy your record!
Hopefully Title Fight will return!!!
Slant 6 shirt ❤
Title fight reminds me of my 20s
Alot goes into a successful relationship with music. Tantric is a well example of the greatness that come from such success and hard work and passion, dedication. Keep it Rockin til the Good Lord Come a Knockin!! Love Tantric! Love the guys!! Thank you for all the joy, saddness, heart and soul that is you as individuals and together. MuchLove OneLove always!!
I started listening to title fight around 2 years ago and they became my favorite band, i vould listen to any song at any time and still get pumped over it. Please for the love of God do a tour come to southern California lets do it
if they would at least do a one-off reunion tour (or 2 tours in one year) I think they would make a lot of money if they did it right because I think their popularity has only grown since they went on hiatus. I just found (edit: said "fought" accidentally at first, lol) out about title fight in the last year too
@@flaminghead1vathey don't seem like they care much about money
19:08 the sad music took me out and it goes on for so long 😂
Its sooo loud!!!! 😰😰😰
Wtf is up with this music? Did they even check the levels before exporting? 😂
Is it necessary to use the f word over and over?
Great podcast and video. Jim has been helpful to my blog also. Joe’s Diners and Drive-Ins
🙌🤘😎

Your cheeseburger casserole is way better than mine ever was, Seth!
Nice to meet the other two in this band! Such great music and great interview!
oh my god why doesn't this have more views?! it's good to see Ned too
🤷🏻♂️ share it with your friends!
Good interview. I love their songs. Thanks guys, it's cool to put faces to the two California guys!
Actually really enjoyed this whole conservation, he's a good interviewer.
