WRJT772 Thomas Repeater Build
Hi, sorry for taking so long in posting my technical videos.
This video is very special to me, for many reasons, first, I helped a friend own his first GMRS repeater, his name is Thomas Duke WRTJ772, he is from South Carolina, we actually met on an open Zello channel called GMRS_TWO_WAY_RADIO a gentleman called Scott from Wisconsin sponsors the channel and I found it by accident, well to make a long story short, we basically talk every day and I mentioned that I just retired from Motorola and that my hobby is building repeaters, we got to talking and I had mentioned that I was looking for a nationwide network, he suggested the Octane network, once I finished building this repeater and afte...

    Great progress from when you first bought one from me. Its a tough business and starting to get not really fun anymore. Not scalable at all and hard to get good deals. Then HAMS / GMRS users are dirt cheap, if I want to sell 5 a month at least. I'm not gonna do this to sell 1 a month. So if I sell a repeater for 500 bucks, have 150 in the radios, 150 in the computing, thats only 200 bucks in my pocket for 4 -5 hours of work. Which isn't really getting close to my $100/hr rate for engineering projects like this.

    @wd4ehutechnicalsite314 Could you possibly give me an idea of where i can obtain the software for discontinued radios like the m1225 for example? I have several prior public service units I obtained when our FD changed to kenwood. I interested in using them for a couple mmdvm pi repeaters, but the software isnt as readily available as other manufacturers. Thanks, James.

    When I build mobile based repeaters I set the tx radio to 10 watts and then run it into an external amplifier that takes 10 watts in and sized to whatever output power the output needs according to its use. Currently working on a Desktrac repeater and converting it to P25 with the Repeater-Builder board. Fans and amps are cooled via a thermistor controlled switch. I could have sworn I saw something in the past that used a RaspberryPi with an interface board that would send out a push notification to those responsible for the site. One could also interface a power monitor to the system to let one know what is happening with output power. Nice build!

      Hi, sorry for the delay responding, besides all of the connector's DB-9 and DB-26 that have to be created, you need to make some changes to the CPS, like where you want to be your PPT output, flat audio settings and so forth, it was challenging at first, since I could not find any information out here on how to perform this task, if you send me your email, I can forward the information that I have compile up to now. 73's de Ross Fernandez (WD4EHU)

    What kind of cable/adapter did you use to interface the DB9 on the MMDVM modem and the Hytera repeater?

    • @wd4ehutechnicalsite314
      @wd4ehutechnicalsite314 2 года назад

      Hi!!, the cabling I utilized, was a Belden 8 conductor shielded cable. I highly recommend shielding due to the RF environment present during transmissions. The connections were relatively easy once I knew the pinout, you would only need a special DB26 pin connector and a DB9 both male connectors. There are two ways you can go with the SST32M modems, one by Repeater builder, who's board will accept an dc-to-dc converter and this way no need to power thru usb, this converter will do the 12 to 5 volts conversion and the other is a regular board by anyone else.
