@@antonzavarzin7208 thank you for the kind words! Much like cameras nowadays, “budget” lenses are getting pretty good. Having used many cinema lenses, I was super happy with how the g masters performed given the circumstances I was working in. The convenience of autofocus and small form factor allowed me to tell the story I was after, whereas a fully manual lens would have held me back.

​@@joebressler Yeah i feel the same about the stories. Sometimes as a solo creator you have to think about so many things like lightning/blocking/moving/set design/etcetc that pulling the focus is just overheating my brain sometimes. Did you apply any blur on the image in Davinci or is just basic grading with grain and film emulation/kodak 2383? Everything looks so smooth and soft what is a surprise for a sharp lens which I expected to have noticeable sharp edges.

@@antonzavarzin7208 thanks! there's not any blur in the image applied in post, but the grade definitely helps. I definitely tend to shoot close to wide open a lot as well.

I agree, there is a lot of prep and decision making for any film project

most of the time I have an AC pulling focus but I have used the Leica R's in all of the above scenarios

I would suggest using uniform front rings across your entire lens set to allow for all the lenses to accept the same threaded filters. Or you could use a matte box.

good question - I felt like on a s35 sensor, the 28mm and 50mm served me really well if I only had to choose 2 lenses for general run around coverage. However I really love the 15mm as well!

@@joebressler I'm trying to start collecting a set. Do you see differences in the look in between later/modern Leica (circa 1990-2000) and the older ones (circa 1980s)? Thanks for your help!

@vedroelcitra I’ve used a bunch of different Leica R’s over the years but I’ve never really paid attention to what the serial numbers were. Most of the lenses were rehoused rentals. From what I understand tho there are some odd ones (maybe re-badged minolta lenses?) so maybe if you’re considering buying a certain lens, do research about that specific S/N range.

You can definitely use blur to some effect in your grade to soften up the image and give it more of a film look. It would need to be a part of a multi faceted approach though, obviously 👍
