Tall Man Minis
Великобритания
Добавлен 4 апр 2022
Hi, I'm Bryan. I have been a fan of Warhammer 40K and model building since childhood. All the way back to Rogue Trader!
This is my channel where I want to share the techniques I've learned since returning to the 40K universe in late 2021. I want to show that if a guy in his 40s with a bad back and shaky hands can paint, then you can to!
I will be taking techniques I picked up on RUclips and showing what a absolute beginner can do, track my progress and show just how easy it is. I hope to inspire others and encourage them to give it a try, because the most important thing is:
To enjoy your painting, learn new skills, have fun and meet new people!
See you soon!

How to Paint: Inquisitor Greyfax - Imperium Magazine - Gold Armour & Pale Skin
Let me show you how I painted my Inquisitor Greyfax from imperium Magazine. In this video I explore how to paint a really ornate and shining gold and create a great pale flesh look. I also explore how to glaze and highlight black cloaks effectively and easily...and how to correct a mistake or two along the way!
It's been nearly 6 months since I have been able to paint any models, following some real life issues which required my attention. However I am back and I wanted to paint something different and flex some skills I need to perfect for the rest of my armies.
If you would like to support my channel, below are some links to my main painting equipment and some other supplies that I use in...

Lets Build: First impressions of Einhyr Champion & Leagues of Votann
Просмотров 6442 года назад
A very quickly produced video on my thoughts (more a stream of consciousness) on the quality of the Einhyr Champion from the Leagues of Votaan Army Box. It's short and maybe not all that in depth but I just wanted to give my first impressions, as I am very excited. Maybe too much for a grown man! I am not sponsored or under any obligations so it's just my honest opinion. So lets build the Einhy...

Hi there! Just a quick video from me to bridge the gap between my next few uploads, where I will be oil washing vehicles and scenery. Before that though, I though some people may find it interesting to see how I magnetised my Primaris Gladiator Tank so that I can field all three variants. Allowing me to vary my tactics and make my small Blood Angels Army more versatile! In this video I will be ...

Blood Angels Painting - Custom Primaris Sanguinary Guard
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
Finally feeling better enough to make a proper painting video again! It's been great to get back into a rythm. I decided it's time I pressed on and get my Blood Angels Army finished! No Blood Angels Army is complete without the Sanguinary guard! I made these primaris sized minis over 6 months ago and only painted one test model. So with a few modifications, I wanted to to show you how I got thi...

What next? Warhammer or Star Wars? Recovery & Update This is just a quick update on where I am at the moment. I had a dental procedure go wrong and as a result I had to have some dental surgery in order to correct it. As a result I really haven't been able properly structure a video and it may be a little while before I am 100%. So I thought this might be a good time to show an update on my bac...

2 years later and this has helped me alot!! liked and subbed
Very good video for BA player!❤
Great stuff - im gonna try some of these techniques
with how awful the new guard are i'm definitely doing this
I’m thinking about converting sanguinary guard into some primaris but I wanna know did you use custodian guard legs or warden legs?
I used the guard legs. They were the easiest to fit together. If I had the skills the warden legs could have looked very cool though.
@@TallManMinis oh ok thank you very much I also wanted to know if you use some nippers to cut the dome of custodian guard legs or a hobby knife?
@@jesseprado5563 I used both actually. The snips were just to snip the very top of the rounded dome off and flatten it out. Otherwise its too slippy, even for a scalpel / hobby blade and I nearly sliced my thumb open on the first model! Once i made a dent in that, I used a scalpel to slice it away very thinly and slowly. Best advice I can give is to take it slow, take small amounts off, like thin slices of bread lol and keep it even and flat. My first model i trimmed down quite far but on later models, I left enough around the waist to double as a belt. About the same thickness as normal space marines.. I felt it helped the proportions better! Good luck and send me a pic when you are done!
Love your take on the gold im going to paint my Sang Guard like that also. Its hard for me to find the Scale 75 so im going yo try Tainted Gold from Army Painter.
Does painting over the magnets significantly reduce their strength?
No not really, they are neodymium magnets so very strong for their size.
Great video.
Hope you come back.
Thank you! I do plan to, but just trying to clear up some real life commitments first. I'm almost there!
I'm sorry, but I switched off once air brush was mentioned.
Awesome video, great techniques. I’m just building a gladiator today and will follow your guide I think. I wonder if it’s possible to make the impulser too.
Thank you! Oh it totally is! I only magnetised the weapon pod on my impulsor, but I'm sure you could also modify the gladiator in such away that you could convert it between the two!
How does intermediate gloss varnish help with fixing mistakes?
I think show it in the video. It helps by protecting the layer of paint below. If you give it an hour to cure you can rub off the mistake with a cotton bud or wet brush. Applying another layer of varnish after that also helps to to unify the texture and colour of any paint you have used to correct a mistake.
Great video, very helpful!
Great wee video. I currently have a pile of terrain to work through :) never tried oils so on the hunt for tutorials like this :) nice one!
The same box tell you dont glue the weapons, and turret 😂
Yeah but if I don't then I will lose it or drop it. I have all the dexterity of a drunk breeze block sometimes lol
Probably an obvious question to anyone up to speed with the recent supplements but is the Shield + one Lightning Claw loadout still legal in 10th ?
Good question. I actually don't know. I've not had the time to paint or play due to some legal issues with my home that is eating up all my free time :( Should be over soon though, so I will read up on this!
Would it look weird if I drilled into the piping on the power pack always thought they were exhaust pipes
Do you mean the ones that come down vertically on either side? I don't think so, but you may need a very fine drill bit. Either way though, you could always refill the holes with a little putty if you didn't like the look of it :)
Found old art work showing them flying and smoke is coming from the piping (old blood angels codex)
@@codemaster6521 Nice! I love old 40K art. Especially the RT and 3rd Edition days
My love, what is happening at 00:55 tell me about this black oil wash, I like how it flows in the gaps. Tell me everything!!1
🤣I'm glad you like it! I do a better explanation in one of my other videos, with some vanguard vets! - ruclips.net/video/jzwPa-cE4Ss/видео.html
What about red helmets?
I just paint & highlight them the same as rest of the armour. Just pinwash and then the same highlight colours I use in my first upload :) Generally I go for green lenses as it contrasts really well with red.
Those minis(death company) have the same size Primaris?
Hey, sorry for the late reply. Yeah they are just normal Assault Intercessors really with a few extras added on, like power gloves :)
Amazing video! Very educational
Thank you!
You could not even worry about angling by using blood angels red contrast through the air brush. It also can give you natural shading into recesses at the same time
Great video, deserving way more views.
Definitely the way to go as the time of building and painting plus the cost of the models and materials adds up. If you can get multiple variants out of one kit you are ahead of the curve.
@TallManMinis any advice on what pressure to use with the varnish? I have the Vallejo one you recommended as I'd like to try pin washing my Blood Angels. Do you normally thin the varnish down or put any flow improver in?
And definitely do the sang guard video 👍
Good to see you back. Really enjoy your videos!
This was incredibly helpful, thanks!
Thank you! :)
looks amazing as always ^-^ good to see you back!
Sorry it's been so long! Apart from other responsibilities, it took a few extra days to upload as I had to work out some kinks after migrating to Linux. but here we are! Please let me know what you think. I realise I didn't cover painting the Bolter or purity seals, but I have done those in other videos so please feel free to check them out. The technique used on the bolter was the exact same as the one used in my Death Company Video. Thanks again for all your support and continued viewing :) Any tips or questions, or anything I may have missed? Please feel free to get in touch.
It wasn’t that common back in the 90s because Miniatures were made out of metal… lol
I love doing the aquila in bone and never really using gold for metals. A dark gunmetal or Iron warriors type metal that while is dark surprisingly pops on these black models. I also make sure to always use faces on mine and usually the same weapons the heavy bolt pistol and chain swords work very well. If your looking to maybe try kitbashing original marines parts on these I highly recommend buying jump packs to put on these Primaris intercessors as well as the inferno pistols for special weapon options. Using any dark red color mixed with Elmer’s glue in a cup then splattering on the swords, faces, and armor with a toothbrush is a very effective way to show the fury and gore of these raging marines.
I like the bone aquila too, but i think it works best with actual DC models who have more skull motifs. I decided to keep these guys a bit more plain looking. I have already made some primaris conversions with original parts and jet packs, Check out my Vanguard Vets video :) I have some DC converted primaris guys with jet packs too, just finding it hard to get the time to paint as work is so busy :(
Fantastic video, thank you. The BA shoulder pad on the aggressor, is that a 3D print?
hank you so much! :) no those are from the Blood Angels Primaris Upgrade Sprue. It's an official GW product. You get two with the combat patrol box.
@@TallManMinis interesting, I didn't think they fit anything other then intercessors Thankyou, you seem quite experienced in air brushing, have you thought about doing a video on tips and techniques on that? looking forward to other BA painting videos 👍
@@Teza-b Thank you again :) I'd love to and do plan to at some point. Unfortunately I am just completely bogged down with work and real life family issues. I haven't been able to upload in months, Got lots of footage to edit but just cant find the time :(
@@TallManMinis keep grinding mate, you'll get there 👍
How you don’t have more subscribers is beyond me, great content delivered in a clear straight forward form. Love it keep up the great videos
Thank you! This means so much :) Alas real life is preventing me from making more content as fast as I would like but I don't have any plans to stop the channel and will get more painting done asap!
Great video thank you! Just starting a Death Company squad and this has been so helpful. look forward to part 2
Great Tutorial! and a very Nice Looking Unit! Thanks!!!
love the ffxiv mat! i play on diabolos
I've not played since 2020 but I was on Odin, keep meaning to try out Endwalker but just not had the time :(
@@TallManMinis if you ever end up with the time i highly recommend it. it ends the ascian arc super well. The msq is up there with shadowbringers.
Hey! I love your tutorials and am in the process of following them! One thing though, I notice that at the end of this video the helmets have some kind of metal color on their tubes and ear circle things that isn’t mentioned in this video, what color is that?
Hi, Thanks for checking my videos out :) Sorry for the late reply but I am currently ill with the flu. The metal colour I used here was Vallejo Dark Aluminum. but you can use any silver metallic colour like GW Lead Belcher or even Stormhost SIlver if you like a brighter look!
This is the video I think of, when I think of painting this terrain.
Love these
May I ask what search words you used on Etsy for the Saltire Cross shoulder pads?
Hi, Sorry I was away for the Christmas break and only just got back! Look for Dynamic Prints Studio, they have lots of Death Company crosses and emblems!
I’ve been searching hard for a video to show me how to attach the model to the rock base it came with. So far, I can’t find any. I’m wondering if it is because it is really as hard as I think it is. I’m delicately balancing it right now hoping the glue will bond and harden it in the position I’m balancing it in. The groove in the rock doesn’t well secure the model.
Yeah it's not the most stable mini to build. If you are worried though, you could pin it alongside the plastic glue. Should make it a bit more rigid once it fuses
@@TallManMinis that's a good idea for future projects, thank you. Fortunately, balancing it between my tools had the desired effect and it bonded in the place it needed to be, but it was a very stressful waiting period to make sure it worked!
I have started painting an adepta sororiats army so been chasing down all the how to paint black videos, so this is a perfect addition to that playlist. Thank you and awesome work!
You're welcome! Glad I could help :D
I have just realised this morning that I didn't cover the blood gems and lenses! I have covered them in my other BA videos, but I will make sure I include them when I paint the officers!
Looking very nice. What brushes do you use?
I use a mix of brands. Rosemary & Co Series 33 Pointed Rounds 3/0 and Davinci Maestro Red SableSeries 35 2/0
