Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury By train on a lovely sunny day You can see the Flaxmill at Shrewsbury near the end of this video The connecting train to Newtown only half of it turned up and had no Air conditioning so the guard handed out cans of water there were standing room only as it was two coaches short so did not film that part of the journey

Exploring the canals of Manchester came across a narrow boat doing the Cheshire ring or trying to the lock gate opened but would not close. It looked like the wedges were loose on the gate hinge With a slight adjustment the gate was once again working the boat went up and through the locks and I shut the gate behind them. The next lock had a strange winch mechanism on the lock beam to open it w...

Just a quick visit to Montgomery Canal at Berriew Aqueduct Looks like they've been doing work to seal the joints in this aqueduct and there's a wooden ramp for animals to get it out at one end. Water still coming out of the brickwork underneath the end arch thought. Then off to do some shopping and a quick look around the canal at Welshpool

Aberbechan Aqueduct Montgomery Canal Has been leaking for many years and a sinkholes have appeared in the path several times Being restored With money from the levelling up fund from the government as far as I know. If the road bridge was raised there would be about two miles stretch of water people could use from Freestone Lock to Abermule

Nice update.
It is a great museum but the best parts have been shut for years now awaiting refurbishment.
Very interesting vixeo Colin. i often get the train into Manchester and walk around the canals. The trams from Victoria station are just 20 minutes ride to the centre of Bury where I film the heritage trains. That rain srorm was torrential.
A very noisy place Manchester the rain was really hammering on the roof of the station I managed to keep dry
Been a few years since we took a hire boat down the Monty. Always hoped there would be real progress but money is the driving force in all restoration work. The volunteers will work till they drop if the funds provide the materials. Shame I don't have any to help them along.
It is a great city Colin. Nice set of photos.
Sorry the weather was bad for you Colin.
Had great weather on the way back taken lots of pictures of Manchester uploading soon
Think that was called Llanllwchaiarn Lock in a Sunday times article in the 1960's showing the dilapidated state of the chamber and locks, great to see this really, named wrongly in the Sunday Times article, so called Rock lock is the correct name. Thanks so much, have some old photos of the dilapidated locks but must have been cleared for the footpath.

Is there any information as to the work that needs to be done on the aqueduct Colin?
Very interesting to see what is going on there.
Hiya ✨💖✨
Lovely video Colin, I do enjoy watching your videos! They’re so relaxing, and the natural background sounds make it real and allow one to reflect and anticipate a similar experience on visiting…. By boat, one day, we hope!
THANK YOU
Great video Colin, look like the same family of swans we were watching in Welshpool yesterday. Did you go no the Berriew show? it was a good day out.
No I didn't go to the Berriew show haven't been anywhere for ages hope to walk more of the canals this month All been well but got a lot of things on
Is this a leisure boat for day cruiser’s …

@@colin125gwr aw, nice one ☝️
This project Colin, as taken a fantastic turn recently, restoration is in full swing… thanks for subscribing to my channel btw. I’ll like and comment on your videos as I get through them. Keep up the great work.
Liked and subscribed… I filmed some footage of the Lichfield Canal Restoration.. the volunteer work there should be lauded from the roots tops. Yes. The re-watering of smaller sections for testing makes a lot of sense. I cast my mind back to 2020 on the Ashby. They had re-watered a small section and there was a breach. It’s been sorted since and never occurred again. But it was very costly to the section, particularly the fish that died. The locals though, they rescued so many, it looks amazing now, just like this will. Hopefully very soon.
ok ,so will they be rewatering only shorter spans of the canal now?
They got to test the two short Sections but at some point a bridge has got to be put in for the farmer and the next section might not need so much lining as this current section. The sort sections will have to be drained at some point after testing
Nice to see this video! I was born and brought up with a few hundred yards of Llanymynech Rocks! I moved away in the 1970’s and haven’t been back to the area very often, unfortunately.
Thanks for your comment Llanymynech Rocks a lovely place now but Must have been hard work when they were actually quarrying up there
very interesting vieo, thank you Colin. They appear to be making great progress and moving on a lot faster nowadays.
yes making great progress
Lovely area.
Looks a fabulous place.
yes built to impress
A mammoth restoration project, but wouldn’t it be wonderful?
Which end the Newtown end or where it’s been culverted between Garthmyl by the Nags Head and Abermule.
the end of the navigable Welshpool section Newtown end
A nice record of the construction work. Well done.
THANK YOU
That is a nice walk Colin, we have done it a couple of times. Your were right to be wary of those swans.
Superbe vidéo !! Merci pour ce reportage bien filmé.
Oo nice
What an increadable canal. Hopefully there are no major impediments to its completion. Regards from South Africa
Nice one Colin, thanks for showing it.
Badger!
Saw the crane today, a great bit of Meccano. It has come all the way from Preston.
don't know what time the lift is but 27th tomorrow if all go's well TO WINDY 27th
Great to see two steam locos in service there, since normally they just run their home-based red stalwart. The green scenery is beautiful too! :)
Many thanks for for filming the Carreghofa locks and the Wharfingers house which we rented as a holiday let many years ago it brought back some very happy memories we used to sit at the dining room table which was situated in the bay window which juts out on stilts at the gable end of the house and over looks the canal and locks and enjoy the wonderful views ,we also walked over the Aqueduct many times .it is great to know one day it will be rejoined to the rest of “The Monty” and become a navigable canal once again . Terence hammond
I have ridden behind Joan a couple of times.
Me too
Interesting rural walk.. it's quite relaxing
Fabulous.
They are very good.
yes wish I could play a musical instrument they say I should join but I cant even follow a beat
@@colin125gwr You should have a go Colin, I have just joined my local ukulele group, it`s good fun.
Nice video Colin, We were stood near (what was) Barclays bank. Video up soon.
Very interesting, some nice layouts from the past.
The wood and canvas canoe in the old photos, is a PBK20 by P.W. Blandford in 50's, Great old photos. Dave
They have done a good neat job. must have cost a fortune. Excellent viseo Colin. We are down your way on Friday.
Once the roof slates were stolen, the buildings on Freestone lock soon deteriated, what a shame! From here the canal is in water to just into England.
Your film ends at the sewer works, the dry section beyond to Dolfor lock and to Freestone lock will be back under the canals ownership, I believe. Dave
last I heard CRT own Freestone lock and the canal below it but Dolfor lock and the dry bit was Severn Trent Water or who ever took them over
I love the old photos of the pumphouse. Dave.
The title could be read 2 ways.. !!
Yes clickbait sorry

Super video just strolling down the canal path! I've done it many times and took my drone down to see the restoration work party the other day. It's on my channel and I had an altercation with someone who didn't like me filming... some strange people about! Thanks again .
thanks just watch yours photos from the other day of work site ruclips.net/video/MkL28MB9Vv4/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Great video Colin, just like being there.
Thank you for your regular updates. Such a lovely canal with such a calming atmosphere. There is excitment too with the prospect of advancement into the the yet to be cleared sections.
Thank you for sharing this as l doing this walk in cup of weeks ❤
Crikey, Colin that is a bit wet. Not been bad up here in Bolton.
been lovely and sunny been on a boat trip on the Montgomery Canal then thunder lightning and heavy rain the Kerry road was shut tonight flooded
What a beautiful part of the world. This canal project is close to the Cambrian Heritage railway, right on the Welsh border. This area will be due for a grand awakening at this rate! Not being familiar with the area as I live many miles distant, a map showing the canal route with the parts restored, those still to be rescued, plus those navigable woud be so useful .Thanks for such an interesting journey.
