I look at the canal restoration at Crickheath starting at bridge 85 on the Montgomery Canal walking towards the new Schoolhouse bridge 86 A great deal of work has been done this year by the Volunteers It would be amazing to see this canal open all the way to Newtown Can't see it happening in my lifetime Hopefully I'll see it reach the wash border or even Welshpool can't see it getting to Newtow...

Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury By train on a lovely sunny day You can see the Flaxmill at Shrewsbury near the end of this video The connecting train to Newtown only half of it turned up and had no Air conditioning so the guard handed out cans of water there were standing room only as it was two coaches short so did not film that part of the journey

👍👍👍😶😶😶great effort - looks superb!
Great to see it full. Just hope they get on with the rest of it.
Great title Colin. I am amazed how much work has been done since we were last there about 18 months ago.
Nice video. I'd like to see it on a bright, sunny summer's day.
me too
I love these canals in the UK but I have to ask, is there stink from all that stagnant water?
The canals have flowing water so the water isn't stagnant
Great little place. Used to have most pubs for its size. Nice video.
thank you
Nice job done there . But now in 1.1. 2025 the Bridgewater canal has a big breach in it and the Narrowboats will need help there as there Narrowboats are on the tilt.
Yes just watched Taylor's aboard video it a big breach
shropshireunion.org.uk/ For more information about the restoration
That is really bad restoration if you are going to do it at least do it properly and complete it I would not donate any money to that because you are not completing it properly
I'm not sure what you mean by a really bad restoration there are reasons why they it the way they do it. What don't you like?
I bet them geese go a bit crazy Colin like they do. Super nice canal. Mark
They were quiet when I was there Wasn't there long
@@colin125gwr Hey, that's good. Have a nice day.
Lovely rural ramble Colin. The rivers flowing well. All the best. Mark
👍 ! !! 🧡🧡
4:22 does this water come from the canal (leakage)?
no its wet land
their is now a new bridge where the Road crosses the canal bed at 2:41in the video (Schoolhouse bridge) 86 From 2:48 in the video the Canal is now open Bridges 83 84 And the new end of the canal is at Bridge 85 Crickheath not video
Thanks for the vid. I like to stay up to date. I'm really really confused though. please tell me why the mile marker appears the wrong way round??? you say your heading off toward Newtown but the mile marker says Frankton! very confusing. my only guess is the marker is in a most confusing temporary home.
bad design
@@colin125gwr 🤣🤣🤣 I cant believe such a mistake even possible, WOW. Ill check it out myself one day if the second decline of the system sorts its self out and gives me the confidence to invest in my own boat 🤞 Thanks again
@@sbrenan3326 You're supposed to be able to read it in the direction you're going but the signs aren't really curved enough some canals there are triangular
It’s about reading it in the direction you are coming from, it’s easier to read than a flat sign as you approach
@@CourtAboveTheCut Ahhh, I get it now. Thanks heaps for the info. Coincidence, I was just watching your "The UK's Next Section Of Canal" vid when I noticed your reply! Thanks again and for all your great vids
I don't think my strimmer could quite handle that. I wonder when they'll get started on it.
I think it would take about two years to get to schoolhouse bridge with the canal .Just depends how much money they can find. They might start doing clearance work on the next section in a year's time maybe The path is wet and slippery with many roots growing through it at the moment
I would love you to make a video of the next section of this canal. That is the unrestored section beyond Schoolhouse Bridge that is 1 1/2 miles long and connects to an open section 1/2 mile long in WALES.

If you do further episodes, would you please ensure that you pan camera over bridge archways so that the individual bridge number can be seen ? That way, we viewers will be able identify exactly where your walk is taking place.
The video starts at bridge 85 Crickheath And I walk up to the new schoolhouse bridge 86 Thanks for your comment
Great video!!! You have to get lucky sometime! Any chance you could include a cross reference to Google earth in the video? It would be very much appreciated..... many thanks ;-)

Great video. Nice to see what they have achieved.

good to see the Long Lane, New School House Bridge in use. I was there this year and the approach ramps hadn't even been raised.
A loss has been done since his video was taken but still lots to do
It will help to diversity the local economy.
Would be nice to see boats going over there. Thanks for sharing Colin.
Can't see that happening anytime soon
Interesting. Thanks for the complete record.
'Dead' waterways continue to come back to life. Long may it continue.
Very interesting Colin.
A very worthwhile video. I would love to see this section opened. It looks like work has stopped at the moment.

Personally I would like to see that cleaned out and lots of people using it. Maybe the locals do not want that to happen. Great video anyway. Everybody SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE PLEASE.
Nice update.
It is a great museum but the best parts have been shut for years now awaiting refurbishment.
Very interesting vixeo Colin. i often get the train into Manchester and walk around the canals. The trams from Victoria station are just 20 minutes ride to the centre of Bury where I film the heritage trains. That rain srorm was torrential.
A very noisy place Manchester the rain was really hammering on the roof of the station I managed to keep dry
Been a few years since we took a hire boat down the Monty. Always hoped there would be real progress but money is the driving force in all restoration work. The volunteers will work till they drop if the funds provide the materials. Shame I don't have any to help them along.
It is a great city Colin. Nice set of photos.
Sorry the weather was bad for you Colin.
Had great weather on the way back taken lots of pictures of Manchester uploading soon
Think that was called Llanllwchaiarn Lock in a Sunday times article in the 1960's showing the dilapidated state of the chamber and locks, great to see this really, named wrongly in the Sunday Times article, so called Rock lock is the correct name. Thanks so much, have some old photos of the dilapidated locks but must have been cleared for the footpath.

THANK YOU
Great video Colin, look like the same family of swans we were watching in Welshpool yesterday. Did you go no the Berriew show? it was a good day out.
