JMRI Operations 003 - Extra Freight West
Welcome back to the Scarborough Model Railroaders and the next instalment of our video series about JMRI operations, and how they are used on our club's HO scale layout. Today we'll be following an Extra Freight West as it picks up empties and loads for destinations off the layout. A little more mainline running, and little less switching out customers today. Thanks and hope you enjoy!

You should post more. Your videos are great!
N the thumbnail looked real
That’s withered really good
Nice switch, arrola on that gondola that ended in the rear 😂😂😂😂
Have you tried operating a locomotive on my layout?
Every minute was great.
Glad you enjoyed!
I enjoy operations videos so thanks for posting. This was a good one. I liked that you sped up the video during switching. I have subscribed.😀 Cheers Ken
Love those Western Maryland BLs.
Nice layout, but never liked paper cards on top of rolling, but again great layout.
Super cool video! Amazing layout! 👏👏
Turn down the sound of the locomotive, much to loud. very iritating, for the rest looks fantastic.
how do the car automatically get unhooked???
Track magnets.
@@michaelh7518 I'm guessing your rolling stock needs to be modified?
@@nicolasg.6232 the magnet is actually glued in place between the rails, and when the cars are pushed over them the magnetic force pushes the couplers away from each other effectively "uncoupling" them. This requires the cars to have knuckle couplers installed that have magnetic trip pins on them. Most manufacturers now offer couplers with their cars that work with this system, although some work better than others
@@scarboroughmodelrailroader6641 Wow, you learn something new everyday! That is awesome! Thanks for the information.
@@scarboroughmodelrailroader6641 does it unhook as well when you ride over it at normal speed?
What a great looking layout! Thanks for letting us ride along.
Magnificent catches of the model trains coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Keep up the perfect work, my friend, liked and subscribed, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed! Just one minor clarification, we are located in Canada not the USA :)
@@scarboroughmodelrailroader6641 sorry.
@@scarboroughmodelrailroader6641 model trains are amazing.

WOW .... Amazing Layout and Very Fun To Watch!!!! 👍
The only thing I was curious is why no sub roadbed and roadbed? On both the normal scale and hughly oversized I noticed that all track was laid on the plywood. Also on the Hughly Oversized, why was the rails never painted? But overall nice work.
The two layouts are amazing.
Pretty awesome layout. Sorry to have missed your open house show, hope you had a good turnout. Definitely going to try and get down to see you in the future. Thanks for sharing!
Fun run and great explanation. The little paper tents on the rooftops is a great idea. I have a Mac computer and use a similar program to JMRI called “Switchlist” which works well for my setup. Hoping to attend one of your open house shows this month. Thanks for sharing.
This was great! loved the whole breakdown of the train and its destinations and all the narration throughout! keep up the awesome work you definitely earned a new subscriber!!
Interesting set up.
Great transfer run.
I want to come and visit your layout. When do you have open houses?
Our next show days are March 3rd and 10th, 11am - 4pm! :)
fantastic am really hoping to do operations on my new layout just love it
1sr a tour. Then the trains. That's the right order. We would like to see it all!
wow thats cool......
Very nice layout, great details..next time closer shots of buildings and other things. Thanks for sharing..Merry Christmas to you all…😊
Great layout, maim line trains caboose please
Sorry to have missed this. It’s always a great event!
We're sorry to hear that. Hope you're able to make it for a future one! :)
very nice
Thanks
Excellent. Who ever weathered that SD90MAC did an amazing job. 😉
Couldn't agree more!
Super interesting! Nice looking layout. I love watching local switching operations. Only suggestion to improve your video is to slow down your camera movement, especially noticeable in the initial yard shots. Watching your video on large screen tv and it’s almost makes me dizzy
Loved it, but ..... All the nice detail in the scenery and structures, all the time put into the prototypical ops and the sound system but you didn't blow for the crossings....? Well, at least no one died.....😄👍
Great video.
Hold up, an operations video, and you leave out the assembly operations. Bruh 😅
Locomotives short nose to to short nose bad look. Sorry
Hi John, early road switcher units were unique in that different railroads would designate different ends of the locomotives as the "forward" end. In CN's case these GP7's were setup to run long hood forward (designated by the "F" on the frame being at the long hood end, and the factory-installed cab figure in this model facing the long hood end as well). Many of our members also have different tastes when it comes to running - you can see that the person operating the train in this video ran long hood forward but also ran their train without a caboose. We encourage everyone to run their trains the way they enjoy. Happy railroading! :)
CN subsidiary GTW ran them long hood forward also
Great video. It's nice seeing JMRI being used on such a large layout
Very nice job, Sean.
Imagine if that derailed 😂
The weathering on the hoppers is really first rate. Nice work :-)
Nice vid you get 1'000 subs in no time
Thank you! That certainly would be something, wouldn't it? :)
Thanks for sharing the video. Glad to heard that your public shows went well. Best regards, Model Railroad Club Toronto
Thank you Larry! Have enjoyed seeing the content from your club also lately!
